Re: Romney vs. Obama
There's a significant chance of a tie, 269-269. That would be fun, with the likely outcome being a Romney-Biden Presidency.

Re: Traditional American Values
Would it be fair to say that the "Plenitude Economy" is something that would be embraced by the Green Party? I think it could be embraced by greens and libertarians alike. Greens would mandate Plenitude by law. Libertarians might encourage voluntary compliance with Plenitude, but use of c...

Re: Why can't groups of humans tolerate prosperity?
I brought it up because Tinker brought it up. My comments were directed at him. You may discuss whatever you wish. Actually, you brought it up by quoting the tenth commandment: http://www.onthenatureofthings.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1323#p33768 It's useful to remain mindful of the duality ...

I did not assume we were exclusively engaged in a Scriptural interpretation of these concepts.Mr. Perfect wrote:Yes, but of course the context does not use covetousness in general but coveting of someone else's property specifically.

Covetous: A Secular Definition
Covetousness is the definition of both envy and greed, two sides of the same coin. Ok, in context for those who are rusty: "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing tha...

Re: Why can't groups of humans tolerate prosperity?
The way I read the OT was not that other people can't handle seeing wealth that is not theirs, the point is that we can't handle our own prosperity. This theme should play right into the plenitude theme Enki posted in another thread, yet it turns into a fight. Why? Because we are competitive by natu...

Re: Drug Culture News - Marijuana and More
I have not worked up the animus for Obama that you have, but he certainly does not seem to represent my view on any of the issues that I care about, ending the War on Drugs being one. But since Romney can only be worse on this issue, it really doesn't matter at this point.

Re: Drug Culture News - Marijuana and More
Back when he was running for president in 2008, Barack Obama insisted that medical marijuana was an issue best left to state and local governments. "I'm not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue," he vowed, promising an end to the Bus...

You have no credibility in regards to how cavalier you think I am. Right back at ya bud. I'm not anyone's "bud," really. I'm also not the one advocating preemptive attacks, you are, which destroys your credibility. So, back at you again. More clearly stated, this is strictly an ad hominem...

Re: Why No "History" Forum?
Since many of the discussions here are already liberally infused with historical references, and I'm not enough of a historian to contribute to a History forum, I voted for bacon, but don't have any objection to a History forum. You really can't go wrong with bacon, though.

I don't see anything wrong about admitting my position might possibly be different if I lived in Te Aviv, but I can't speak to that hypothetical any more than you could if I invited you to live in Teheran. Both are interesting things to contemplate, but not relevant to our discussion. They certainl...

The willingness of Mr. P and other American warmongers to turn swaths of the Middle East into "glass" makes Iran's desire for a nuclear deterrent far more understandable, indeed it is probably one of Iran's reasons for seeking such. That's not to say I excuse the hateful rhetoric emanatin...

Slaughtering millions of people has preserved freedom before, and if that's what it takes we'll do it again. Heck, we're gonna slaughter millions regardless of who wins, freedom or not so I'm not sure what the point is on that. So cavalier with the lives of the other. To me, this evil aspect of you...

Now, while this is an interesting thing to chat about, it has no bearing on the election at all. Americans don't care about the embassy attack any more than they care about the thousands to broken-toy veterans who kill themselves, or the thousands of murdered civilians or anything else that actuall...

Gary Johnson is going to hurt Romney in the Western swing states. Do you think so? His pro-choice stance might make his voters more of a mixed bag than you think. Any poll data to back up your opinion? Libertarians are usually pro choice. I have no data. Why do you suppose Johnson has less appeal t...

Re: Wahhabism (pseudo Salafism)
Did this turn into a debate about US defense spending? Doesn't seem related. If it wasn't Islamic extremism it would be some other bogeyman to sucker half of America into buying more aircraft carriers. We need to stop calling it defense spending. The US military is on offense virtually all of the t...
