Re: Revolutionary science: proper dirt
Great thread. I suffer from sad (standard american diet). I've been fighting my tail off to eat whole foods, as in whole plants. I've found the Japanese sweet potato to be the most amazing plant I've ever eaten. You should grow them Mr.P. Do you eat bread? Do you have recipes to post? youtube links??

Re: Venezuela
This has been the worst thing to watch. This country has been flushed down the toilet. I wondered why his holiness Chavez didn't call up one of the Nordic countries and ask for assistance in forming a functional socialist country. I assume that is what the country was voting for when they voted for ...

Re: Jihad in Orlando, Florida
Trump cannot win. My main concern since San Bernardino has been an October surprise. Any of these guys smart enough with electronics and chemistry (like Boston) can pull off some pretty horrific events. We're at the mercy of the vigilance and self policing of the Islamic community. It is hard enoug...

Re: Jihad in Orlando, Florida
Orlando gay nightclub shooting: 50 killed, suspect is Omar Mateen In the end, there is no question that civilized nations everywhere will defeat that murderous Jihadist ideology. In the spirit of a hope I concur with your sentiments. As far as where perception meets reality I remain very skeptical ...

No. We still can't trust American Indians. Girl power isn't the issue. She'll be viewed as a candidate that never left Harvard or whatever Ivy she went to. Clinton needs more grit, someone like her (Pa, Oh). More scars and battles won. Warren's too academic. jerry, I see your point. Do you have a n...

Nah, civil war and a return to pogroms seems more likely. Europe has a problem. Questions about extremist in the security apparatus going to have to be sorted out. Too much megalomania in Europe. They're not the solution to problems in Middle East. As for the ineptitude of these extremist fellas..On...

So I can only post a small portion of what I am on these forums, suffice it so say that when obama was elected it made nuclear war inevitable. As such with my contacts we began doing simulations. Can't really do a full briefing here, but start to use tools like this to learn about your area and cha...

Amen. Agreed. The growth in our material quality of life and health has been phenomenal. We in the developed world are the most well off people in history. I have traveled and worked in the poor parts of the world, and life can be harsh. I can't help but having mixed feelings though. Other than the...

Re: Severe Drought Grows Worse in California
There's no reason lawns can't be replaced with the California's native flora. The plant communities all over the state are very interesting. I worked with a fella for years that sold native landscaping exclusively and he made some beautiful, orderly yards. You still need to water but at a drasticall...

Re: How the Car Industry Outlawed Crossing the Street
Perhaps the most unnerving thing was driving along the coastal highway 101, with mountains on one side and a step drop into the ocean on the other in parts, and seeing a fuel truck initiate an overtaking pass at such a blind spot curve. Central California? I rode my bicycle down that road with surp...

Re: Nationalism and the European Consciousness
I live in a 51% majority Latino city with a substantial Asian population. My neighborhood reflects this diversity. I know a lot of Latinos and Asians, they were my friends growing up, I dated Asian ( Vietnamese, Japanese, Filipina) & Latina women (American, Mexican, Venezuelan, Colombian, Guatem...

How is Europeanism not just another form of nationalism. All whistling in the graveyard, Europe is going extinct. Right now I would say that the chances of the US - as we know it - going extinct are a lot higher than Europe's... A steady influx of Latinos and Asians will take care of it... Asians a...

Re: The Act of Killing
At one point, a younger man who has been enlisted to play a torture victim relates the gruesome story of his stepfather’s abduction and murder by, one suspects, his fellow cast members. He tells the tale as if it were a joke, chuckling and assuring the others that he isn’t blaming or criticizing th...

I'm an 1.5 hrs in and it's pretty creepy. I'm almost tempted to dehumanize these thugs and suggest they don't have the capacity to feel regret. But, their confessions or recollections suggest otherwise. I was pretty depressed when the actor spoke of burying his father in a ditch on the side of the r...

I love the way SF looks, the city layout and the beautiful homes. Great food everywhere. I think it's America's most beautiful city. But, that town is not for poor or middle class people. It's ok if your parents will help with rent for which you will pay $800.00 for a 12X10 room. Socially, I think t...

I would like to see a story that takes place in the context of an Abrahamic afterlife. Avoiding the obvious "oh no, everything is not perfect," or shock type drama. I do think it should be scifi drama. Approached skillfully, one could really challenge existing templates, ideas, perceptions...

in the US there is a tv channel called Weatherscan. It plays music over a weather report graphic all day long. I have been fascinated by the music just as a genre or something. It can sound pretty corny but, I like the idea of making music for a purpose of a niche market.
