Re: Another question for Muslims . . .
...while you continue to complain all day, every day, without suggesting reasonable alternatives. But, of course, it isn't about alternatives, it's about taking a fashionable pose and asserting your moral superiority. I apologize for interrupting.

Re: Canada | Ontario Appeal Court strikes down ban on brothe
Prostitutes are modern day slaves. Pimps should be prosecuted as slavemasters, and johns should be prosecuted under some related set of laws as well. Prostitutes should be treated as victims, and should be afforded rehabilitation and treatment, not be treated as criminals.

You ignored the other half of my post, which is that the African kids are buying their vaccines for the low, low price of the destruction of their culture in favor of western consumer capitalism, whose fruits they are nevertheless mostly excluded from, and for which they provide the most basic kind...

Re: Another question for Muslims . . .
And yet modernity has managed no net decrease in the depth or scale of human suffering. Clearly not correct. Vaccination programs alone have saved millions of lives in the third world. And I suppose Ritalin has been successful at helping clear the minds of children with overworked, unattentive pare...

Re: Rick Santorum
You can adapt by choosing not to rent the porn video, choosing not to buy a ticket to the porn movie or choosing not to buy a subscription to the porn site. It's not like you're a baby with no free will. If people have no free will, how can the free market, democracy, etc., work? We may as well bri...

Re: Schopenhauer on Women
So what's your solution? If somebody says Schopenhauer had a bad attitude towards women the correct response is....? Do the same thing you do with St. Paul, or the Prophet, or Lao Tzu, and sort out for yourself whether, in a given instance, they are offering insight on first principles, or conditio...

Re: Rick Santorum
I don't know if you can draw much of a conclusion from pornography or any other pop-culture depictions of sex. Contemporary American society appears novel in its open attitudes towards sex until you look at Imperial Rome or Babylon. American critics of open sexuality appear regressive and naive unt...

Re: Rick Santorum
There is no way I'm reading 100-something posts on Rick freaking Santorum, so I apologize if this has already been posted: MH: You once said that you think sex is overrated. Could you elaborate? Raquel Welch: I mean just the sex act itself. MH: Really? Are you sure you’ve been doing it right? Raquel...
Re: Children
I know that I don't want children in my twenties, but I know I don't want to be without children in my eighties. For now, all I see is that they are loud, expensive, sticky, smelly, and they're always spilling lavender.

Re: Another question for Muslims . . .
That's right. A lot of interfaith strife and even war in Europe which supports my point: religion and its sects have contributed very little in learning people to live together as "different equals". The enlightenment, democracy, capitalism (the good sort) and church-state separation have...

Re: Capitalism and Its Discontents
Stagnant real wages cannot be discussed without giving a lot of air time to the depressing effect of mass immigration on working class wages. For some reason, most people on the left still don't want to talk about it. Apparently it's not polite.

Re: Western Child Soldiers
There is a strong psychological affinity between an industrial-era worker and an infantry soldier. The entire US education system is similar enough to a military academy in its structure and goals that it's not worth differentiating it from the places where they actually teach battle tactics. The la...

Re: Schopenhauer on Women
If we're disregarding cultural context and applying a litmus test on social views to our philosophers, we're in real trouble. All "serious" philosophers before the advent of post-modern multi-culturalism are going to have to be disregarded, and all the more recent philosophers who would pa...

Re: Spengler discovers Japan....
From the critique of the study, this is the most interesting fact of the whole affair, IMO: Nevertheless, it was curious how little information actually surfaced. Blog post links last longer than a year, but Japanese bloggers were rather uncurious about this report. Then I ran across this comment fr...
