Do You Live in a Bubble?

Post by NapLajoieonSteroids »

At least, that's what PBS is asking.

It's a quiz based off(the new?) Charles Murray book and supposed to show how out of touch those of us in coastal areas are with many Americans.

I scored a 37, which
0–43: A second-generation (or more) upper-middle-class person who has made a point of getting out a lot. Typical: 9.
in terms of class, at least, is right. I guess I get out more than the people typically scoring a 9!

So where you at, in bubble-terms?

As someone who lived in the US, I thought that this would be fun to try:

as an australian who has never visited america i got 64.

i flunked the army symbols and the restaurants but i would have flunked them over here too, i suspect it is my colourful work history and dislike for living in the gentrified areas that scored me high.

75. Hell, I'm more Bubba than Bill Clinton.......

I kept expecting the question: Wur yer father and mother related befur dey waz married? to show up....... or did you take yer sister or cousin to yer prom? Would have raised MY score....

Now I know why so many of all y'all strike me as a bunch of elitist snobs! :) And why so few of you seem to have a healthy sense of humor! Keep blaming your parents........ :)

Wouldn't expect foreigners to score very highly. Congrats to Colonel Sun and noddy

Long live diversity in Merika! :)

Supplemental questions for extra points (help me out here noddy)

Have you ever paid more than $20 for a watch?

Do you know the difference between an iPod and a maxi-pad?

How many of your siblings have first names with more than 3 letters?

Probably would have done better if I had ever owned a pickup truck and watched more television. I'm pretty sure my family back in Indiana would score in the mid 90's

I've really had to think if I lived anywhere for longer than 1 year after 18.

"simps" id change that from 3 letters to one syllable - you can only butcher some names so much, the trick is is getting rid of the extra syllables :)

If you don't mind sharing: how long have you actually spent in the US?

And wouldn't most of these question be transliterated anyway...or is this your way of telling us the Japanese do not fish!

We may be all elitist snobs, ninnies and twits but....

well, I lost my train of thought.

But what really stood out to me in this quiz is how the top two brackets had typical scores of 9 and 2. How out of touch with your surroundings would you need to be to score a 2 on that quiz?
