Amusing that the caricature of France is the Marianne babe, unlike everyone else portrayed in an unflattering light.
I think that the image is from a French newspaper. They spell China "Chine" and France's traditional enemies, Germany and England, are portrayed very unflatteringly.

And it looks like Marianne is leaning over the Tsar of Russia, implying that they are allies.
Makes sense. I should have clued in on "Chine".

Now that you mention it, the late Tsar of Russia looks rather handsome compared to the other male depictions.
May the gods preserve and defend me from self-righteous altruists; I can defend myself from my enemies and my friends.

Germany is how I imagine all German men pre-1918 pictured themselves.

That stereotype isn't true. Two of my mother's great-grandfathers left Germany in the 1860s because they didn't want to get drafted.

What's your motive here Mr. Kettle?

How long were in Germany? How many places in Germany did you visit? How many Germans did you speak to?

I unsuccessfully tried to start a thread called 'Germany' on this forum a couple months ago. Maybe you'd like to start one and give us some more of your impressions.

Ibrahim wrote:Historically Northern Europeans are noted for their individualism, not conformity or discipline. Also their propensity for violence.

If we go back to Tacitus' Germania he makes exactly this argument, so too the early Christian chroniclers of the late Roman empire and early Dark Ages writing about the peoples of northern Europe or the Saxons in England. Violent, independent-minded, and very touchy about personal honor. It actually sounds like a pretty good set of characteristics for a spree-shooter.

Yes, Mr. Kettle, do tell.

If you disagree with my analysis of Tacitus, please elaborate.

On an unrelated note, I'm also told that the inability to discern serious statements from satirical ones is a symptom of monomania.
