Nikkei Asian Review | Pro-independence Tsai defeats 'China-friendly' Nationalists by big margin
TAIPEI -- Tsai Ing-wen, 59, the leader of Taiwan's opposition Democratic Progressive Party, trounced Eric Chu from the incumbent Nationalist, or Kuomintang (KMT), party on Saturday in a presidential vote many observers believe confirmed public concern over one key issue: the government had become too cozy in its cross-strait relations with China.
Meanwhile, the PR China CPC continues to demonstrate it's infantile insecurity:

Taiwan's presidential candidates unite after apology by K-pop singer Chou Tzu-yu over flag "scandal"

.

Taiwan fast graying into a ‘super-aged’ society
Taiwan on demographic course to be one of the oldest countries worldwide by 2060,
when the elderly will represent 41% of the population

Taiwan became an “aging society” in 1993, an “aged society” in 2018 and will become a “super-aged” society in 2025.

When Western culture "creeps" into " Traditional Societies with traditional cultures ", many traditional values and traditions disappear.

That is why, all those cultures, Nations, which "westernize", the birthrate collapses .. like it is in the WEST.

In West, pretty much, "Individual" comes before the "State", Individualism

In Traditional Cultures, State comes before Individual.

Children are very expensive to raise .. need tremendous sacrifice .. so, why bother

Yeh, I doubt many of the americo-sphere believe America will fight for them anymore.

those times are over - we do live in a post Ukraine world now.

I dont say that as a criticism of america, its just how it plays out now.

Reuters | Taiwan's voters rebuff PR China and give ruling party third presidential term
Lai wins with 40% of the vote, but DPP loses parliament majority

Lai vows to stand up to China, but also seeks dialogue

China doesn't mention Lai by name, won't give up on 'reunification'
Not a surprise. No one wants to be PR Chinese [or Russia or Iranian . . .].
