Can't stand the heat?

No one's arguing that David doesn't have interesting things to say, Lizz, but so do Barack Obama, Richard Dawkins, and Rush Limbaugh. All are capable of enlarging one's mind.

Many here were "there" at one time or another, and, many here that were "there" were banned from "there." If the good department head and his associates can't stand the heat, they shoud've stayed out of the kitchen.

What option have they left us but to listen . . we damn' sure can't talk, can we?

When he writes about Japan, China and especially Middle East, he's ignorant, disrespectful and infuriating, even when (once in a blue moon) he's right.

A Russian-American asked me about the similarity/difference between Chinese and Japanese and brought up his observation that men (even boys) openly consume violent pornographic manga on crowded trains in plain view of young pupils. Japan has a serious demographic problem, and it's at least partly connected to some oddity in their morals. But their moral oddities are very unique to that island nation and not very meaningful outside of its border, whilst there are significant lesson(s) we can learn from Japan that has some universal application, the decline of family value is not it. In fact family value is very robust in Japan but because of or despite family value, family creation is going downhill. In a market economy, a Japanese mother is most unappealing job in the developed world. If you inject Catholic religiocity into the mix, you might get a lot of nuns, but not babies and economic recovery. Also, go ahead and cut tax and impose austerity, get rid of social healthcare and public education and see how many Japanese women line up to get pregnant, quit their jobs and raise babies.

If Spengler wants to draw a lesson out of Japan for other countries (esp. USA) he's failed completely. If Spengler wants to offer advice to Japan, he's failed completely. He only able to reinforce a emotional revulsion about foreigners and your moral superiority, it's mental self-gratification, nothing more.

Great post.

I have been pointing the finger right back at Spengler since the beginning. You've nailed it. He offers no solutions, other than than painful, indeed downright immoral choices, that he expects others to make so that he might profit.

Why aren't things like the nature of their pornography or their birthrate just symptoms of other social or economic factors? The constant link that Spengler and most of the people who read his work make between birthrates and "morality" or religion has never been substantiated. It's a theory at best.

Spengler's thought process is entirely conventional. It's tribalism combined with triumphalism. Be like my tribe and succeed, this is "proven" by the fact that what I have defined as my tribe is succeeding based on the metrics I choose to acknowledge.

He wrote under a pseudonym until the very second somebody offered to pay him to write for a quasi-respected-in-some-circles publication. So clearly he didn't want his name associated with his writing, until somebody offered him a dime.
That, in a nutshell, is 'spengler'.
Spengler, in a nutshell, is another blogger product of post-9/11 hysteria who couched his doctrinaire essays with just enough pseudo-intellectual candy to appeal to a class of readers who eat with utensils.

Well, Miss FF, as I have said before, several times by now, I thank David Goldman very much for having brought so many interesting people and ideas together. For that alone, I am willing to forgive him.

However, I'll stick to agreeing with dingding's post. He doesn't offer realistic or reasonable solutions.

You're right as the Hebrew Bible says, "Where there is no vision, the people perish."

We must, however, keep in mind that one man's vision is not another man's vision. Visions come in many forms.

Art? Art, you say?
Pink Panther

Pink Panther is a 41-inch tall porcelain sculpture featuring Jayne Mansfield holding the cartoon character Pink Panther. Mansfield is sculpted from the waist up and is partly clothed, her breasts being exposed; her right hand covers her nearly-exposed breast. The Pink Panther is shown in full, his chin over the left shoulder of Mansfield. Robert Storr, curator of the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, commented on the piece: "His mating of Jayne Mansfield and the eponymous cartoon character in Pink Panther is a thoroughly enjoyable send-up of heterosexual rapture and celebrity romance." Koons' himself states that the piece was intended to represent the Pink Panther as a female masturbation aid. His depiction of the character caused legal issues and Koons was sued for copyright infringement, eventually settling out of court.

Thank you very much for your post, Ibrahim.
the two most populous nations on Earth are Hindu and Taoist/Buddhist/Maoist.
And both of them have gender/population problems.

India's problem is bride burning......

The Brits put down Widow burning but greed invented another nasty...... And one largely done by women against women.......

It the dowry isn't big enough to suit the greedy inlaws, the mother in law douses the new bride with kerosene and set her alight.......

Think the Gospel of the Gun and the Samson meme might be able to help here...... Be like a baptized Sikh before you get baptized in Kerosene...... Always carry a weapon... Ideally a gun... Be willing to use it... If you don't have a weapon try to grab and wrestle the Mother in Law or other Murderous person and take her/him down in flames with you! :o

What is sauce for Muslim Orc Males is also sauce for Hindu Raksha females..........

India also has some female infanticide problems........

China is may be more worrisome..... Thanks to the 1 child policy and Chinese wanting Boyz...... Too many grrls get aborted, killed as infants or at best dropped off at an orphanage to be adopted by Uz and other westerners....... I see plenty of the cute little girl dragons at church.......

The result is that China is reported to have an excess of male Dragons.......

Now it is possible that China may be able to solve this problem by having a Gay  Old Time and/or attracting bare ;) oops I mean Russian Bear Women for the male Dragons to mate with....... G_d knows that Nork women are desperate to marry even old Chinese Farmer Dragons....... If China took over Trash oops I mean Afghanistan, maybe Tallywacker Orc girls could be as valuable as the copper..........

But have read that when there is an excess of males, the traditional way to solve the problem is to have a war....... kills some of the excess males and the surviving males bring home loot and Booty ......... Sounds tailor made for Afghanistan........ But others should BEWARE too.........

To be blunt: Mars  oops I mean CHINA NEEDS WOMEN........... ;) :o

China may use Mars   to get the loot and Booty  it needs..........

Thank you very much for your post, Ibrahim.
"My tribe have strongest idol! Our tribe defeat your tribe!" is not exactly a breathtaking or novel idea.
"My tribe have strongest MEMES! Our tribe defeat your tribe!"* may be exactly breathtakingly what is taking place in novel ways:

For example, using box cutters to convert passenger jets into cruise missiles...

Putting explosives in your pregnant Western girlfriend's airplane luggage.....

Liquid explosives in baby formula bottles complete with live Muslim Baby accessory.....

Defeat unless your tribe/culture adopts/betters some of them..... Vaguely remembering a Spengler article about Al Queda cherry picking Western ideas/tech IIRC...........

Rather like gene migration in microbes and plants.... Round Up resistance ending up in weeds

The game/struggle can be to convert rather destroy.........

Al Queda tries to do both....... Adam Gadahn...........

So do we Uz......The son of that Hamas leader...........

Mold the Other into you or at least something compatible........

Problem for Uz being that the Muslim meme has high resistance & immune response.....
Apostates are marked for death.......

But may that can be overcome........

IMVHO guns are more salable in the ME than Democracy..........

So My current contribution to the Clash of Civilizations toward the defeat of the Malicious Muslim Meme is the "Gospel of the Gun"..... Especially concealed carry..........Put guns and the will to use them in the hands of Muslim females.... Change the power equation in Muslim society.........

Could be dicey.............

Would take some hits....... Muslim Females become more dangerous.......

But that's happening already: Female Suicide Bombers.... Sometimes being given that option as an alternative to an honor killing......

Still not going to be just Uz soldiers going off the reservation getting shot by the Lady Hounds of Afghanistan rather than an Uz firing squad......

But the Tallywacker Hound Dogs and similar male Muslim creeps should take hits when they try to rape young pups male or female or do honor killings

Or there is a disagreement over money or how much sex or whether Fatima gets to learn to read..

Or tell beauticians how to dress or cut hair in Egypt...........

Or try to block an exit during a school fire in Saudi Arabia because the girls weren't properly dress. Control freaks like that DESERVE to be shot.......

Or be an abusive husband in Turkey, the US or Canada

May even get to the point that we have "Snapped" for Muslims.........

'When he tried to beat & stab her, Aisha pulled her gun from under her burka and put 3 shots into center body mass causing Mohammed to die before the paramedics arrived'

Probably means I am going to have to vote for Romney since Ron Paul seems to be out .........

Japanese Robots... A solution to the population decline??

Typhoon wrote:This thread is drifting off topic: Spenglerman discovers Japan . . .
Thank You Very Much for your post, Typhoon.

Quite Correct. My apologies.

Here is something to possibly get it back on target.

I wonder if Japan is going for a 3D solution to the Demographics problem which I read about again today* : Robots.......

4T4DRuw7uMs

If we do manage to do real AI, I hope it will be like Ian Banks, Culture Minds & Drones or Asimov's Robots with their 3 laws but I fear they may be a lot more like Phillip Dick's androids......... A lot like us...... A few good... Some bad..... Many designed for war and death.......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_%28The_Culture%29

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Android ... c_Sheep%3F

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner

One question would be how would a AI experience time......... Larry Niven speculates that they might experience time so quickly that an AI with human level intelligence would quickly (6 months maybe) go insane with boredom........

Or maybe, I think, do things to make life more "interesting" if it were so inclined and able..

May be Drifting a bit again........

In anycase, interesting to imagine a Japan/world with robot citizens........

Life imitates Anime/Manga???........

Science Fiction Future........Re: Spengler discovers Japan..

Here's another to get the train of the thread back on track
Aging Japan evokes science fiction future
By ROSS DOUTHAT
The New York Times

Published: May 3rd, 2012 04:10 PM

"The Children of Men," P.D. James' 1992 novel, is set in a future where the world's male population has become infertile, and an aging Britain is adapting to the human race's gradual extinction. Women push dolls in baby carriages. Families baptize kittens. There are state-run "national porn shops" to stimulate the flagging male libido. Suicide flourishes. Immigrants are welcomed as guest laborers but expelled once they become too old to work. The last children born on earth -- the so-called "Omegas" -- have grown up to be bored, arrogant, antisocial and destructive.

......

But one developed nation is making "The Children of Men" look particularly prophetic. In Japan, birthrates are now so low and life expectancy so great that the nation will soon have a demographic profile that matches that of the U.S. retirement community of Palm Springs. "Gradually but relentlessly," the demographer Nick Eberstadt writes in the latest issue of The Wilson Quarterly, "Japan is evolving into a type of society whose contours and workings have only been contemplated in science fiction."

The lack of fecundity has nothing to do with the claims by Spenglerman.

Reality is more mundane.

Space. As in the lack of space and privacy. The major cities are overcrowded as everyone gravitates to them seeking opportunity.

Cost. The cost of raising children.

Time. Returning home from work at midnight - exhausted - is not conducive to family life.

Resources. Lack of daycare.
We had to decrease the number of children we accept this year due to a shortage of staff.

The director of a day care center in Osaka. The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry predicts a shortage of about 74,000 day care workers in fiscal 2017.
