If one teacher in that school had a gun then it is highly likely that fewer children would have died.

I forgot to include the link. It's right up your alley, Doc.

Folks,

That link sure has a mess of statistics. A quick look indicates to me that one reason for the change is white folks clinging to firearm protection from a black man on TV :(

:D

alex,

Statistics is just another religion. Each reads into it whatever they wish.

Beware the smugness of group identity labels. Back in 08 during one of our many political discussions, my buddy from England knowingly proclaimed that "Obama would never get elected cause America is a racist nation."

To which I feigned shame and replied "Paul, you are probably right. No one knows people better than you do..... refresh my memory again, how many black PMs have you guys elected in England?"

After a moment of sheepish silence, he replied "Well..... we did elect Maggie Thatcher...." ;)

SM,

I think we both know that Obama was a shoo in. The situation is similar now. How could America not elect a woman president and a senior to boot? I know the GOPs are hoping to play the Latino card but that Latino is famously anti-gay. It's a win/lose :(

The only hope I can see for the GOP this time around is to find a lesbian to put up for POTUS. Maybe they could get Sarah Palin to step up to the plate? She would have to pretend the role, but that shouldn't be a deal breaker.

It looks like support for gun control laws has gone down considerably. And truthfully the media tends to over state gun crime more than general crime. I suppose if a gun is not involved it is not worth covering.

"If it bleeds, it leads" is an old U.S. journalism aphorism.

Yeah it is ironic that the progressive muckrakers were doing that back at the beginning of the last century.

Yep. We're back to yellow journalism and Teapot Dome redux.

We could get back to Cain and Able. So do you think if there was gun control back in those days Able would still be alive? :D

alex,

That is what I like about you, you call em like you see em.

I do recall thinking back in 08 when McCain got the repub nomination that the election was over and the repubs were done. Normally, I don't buy into the puppet master conspiracy theory of one group controlling both parties, but sometimes it does seem that when one party holds the Whitehouse for two terms they throw the third election. Perhaps both parties know they can't survive if they are seen as bearing long term responsibility? Maybe their schick requires that they each need to resort to "Hey! Don't blame me pal! I got handed a lavender sandwich the day I took office!" See the list of unsuccessful candidates I posted under the Hilary thread.

You are probably right, that for some people genitalia trumps all, just as melanin trumps all for other people. Identity politics is the only game some will play. A symbiotic relationship between both political parties, activists, and the MSM...... a very profitable way for some to earn a living.

Two of my long term liberal female friends (both describe themselves as strong, proud, Liberal democrats/socialists) are absolutely convinced that Hilary can not win the general election. They say Hilary is despised by left leaning women to an extent that men probably can not understand. See Camile Paglia for details. They claim the DNC knows this and that if Hilary is nominated, they are convinced the DNC is throwing the election. I tend to think they are right, but they are old like me. Trying to tell the young'uns about the Clintons is like trying to tell them about the Beatles.

Never trust anyone over 30 is as valid today as it was in the 60s! ;)

I surely don't know, both parties strike me as very corrupt. Those who think the dems are consistently better than the repubs or vice versa, I suspect earn a large portion of their income from the party they favor.

If it boils down to a Hilary vs. Jeb match up, whoever is on the third party ticket might have a good shot.

It is always fun to speculate how the World Series will turn out before the first pitch gets to home plate.

So far, the run-up to the nominations looks less like politics and more like the Special Olympics.

Will that mean that everyone will get to be POTUS?

Or will the US have multiple VPOTUSAE?

No, but everybody in the stands cheering them on will either be retarded or a family member.

SM,

Your whole post sounds good to me, and the comment above. Maybe it is time for the change that Obama didn't bring?

Are you talking about Change We Can Believe In or just describing the current status? :?

cause right now, I know I'm special, and I think everyone at OTNOT is special, and all y'all seem to think you're each pretty damn special...... ;)

sidenote:

Typhoon & YMix,

I hope this does not sound selfish, but I never got my participation trophy for posting here at OTNOT. :( When you get a few minutes, could you look into that for me?

Hmmm.... a society that proclaims that selfishness is bad, but embraces handing out participation trophies....... that should work out just fine!

Thanks in advance! :D

Alex,

amen. 4 terms of GW Bush, or 6 terms of Bill & Hill is enough! ;)
