White House to Host Justin Trudeau for State Dinner

The photogenic Canadian couple has drawn intense attention from the news media, and Mr. Obama had a very cordial meeting at the Paris climate conference with the Canadian leader, whom the White House considers to be on the president’s ideological wavelength.

In Syria, Moscow’s Terrorist Is Washington’s Freedom Fighter

The United States, Russia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia are at odds over which Syrian fighters they'll be able to shoot as terrorists — and which will be labeled moderates.

Folks , here are Saudi Arabia and Turkey and Qatar and American "moderates :

Islamic State Issues Fatwa On How To Properly Rape Enslaved Women, Girls

Islamic State theologians have issued an extremely detailed ruling on when "owners" of women enslaved by the extremist group can have sex with them, in an apparent bid to curb what they called violations in the treatment of captured females.

The ruling or fatwa has the force of law and appears to go beyond the Islamic State's previous known utterances on the subject, a leading Islamic State scholar said. It sheds new light on how the group is trying to reinterpret centuries-old teachings to justify the sexual slavery of women in the swaths of Syria and Iraq it controls.

What a disaster, what a disaster

Interesting point.

Have there been incidents of large scale massacres of 洋鬼子 | foreign devils as there was of the Chinese in the USA?
I recall some Japanese brand store windows being broken during govt fomented anti-Japanese protests, but not beatings or deaths.

After allowing foreign multinationals to set up shop in China, the situation has recently changed.

The govt now appears to be strongly promoting a "China First" and "Made in China" policy to the disadvantage of foreign companies.

I was talking to a senior person in Siemens last month and he told me that Siemens China now operates as an entirely independent entity from Siemens Global which encompasses all other countries.

true enough, however a lawless frontier country cant really be compared to an established one when it comes to mob control, the chinese seem awfully good at making their world more HAN, even if the techniques arent as crude as once they where.

the chinese expats i work with are all scared of investing in china, they dont believe you can garuntee the government (central or local) wont just take it all from you.

westerners that carried on in a hyper nationalist way like any of the south east asian politicians would be ridiculed - for example trump.

The losses suffered by Iranian troops in battle with jihadists-Sunnis in Syria, caused demoralization, and touched the high command staff. As reported November 5, 2015 NEWSru.co.il with reference to the London newspaper «al-Sharq al-Awsat», panic succumbed to even the generals of the Islamic revolutionary guard Corps (IRGC).

A source close to the IRGC, told the newspaper that several generals and officers of the guard of the regime of the ayatollahs will be brought before a military Tribunal for refusing to go to war. They will be charged with treason and sedition.

The authorities ‘ attention was attracted by the wave of resignations among the military commanders in the General’s rank. According to the publication, they are also under investigation. The generals suspected that their resignation is actually a form of desertion.

US sued over donations for illegal Israeli settlements
Lawsuit targets US Treasury Department for allowing tax-exempt donations for Israel's landgrabs.

The lawsuit claims the donations were "pass-throughs" and "funnels" to support the Israeli army and the illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In the US Internal Revenue Code, these organisations are identified as "501(c)(3)", and donors are given tax-exempt status and allowed to claim a tax deduction on their gift.

Sheldon Adelson, an American casino magnate, and several other wealthy pro-Israeli businessmen were named in the lawsuit as donors but not as defendants.

The Treasury Department declined to comment on the suit, stating in an email to Al Jazeera: "We don't comment on pending litigation."

U.S. Struggles to Explain Alliance With Saudis

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Monday confronted the fundamental contradiction in its increasingly tense relationship with Saudi Arabia. It could not bring itself, at least in public, to condemn the execution of a dissident cleric who challenged the royal family, . .

..

On occasion, American officials muse about whether the United States and Iran might, one day, constitute more natural allies than the United States and Saudi Arabia. But that seems far off.

“It’s not as if you have an Iranian alternative,” a senior Gulf Arab official said recently. “And if you have no alternative, your best choice is to stop complaining about the Saudis.”

I've always believed that, culturally, Iran is a more natural partner for the United States. Looks like I've been years ahead of the Beltway policy establishment. I'm seriously thinking about running for President in a few more election cycles!

But to be fair, Iran hasn't been very intelligent in dealing with the US lately. Too prideful, arrogant, and even spiteful after recent gestures from the US and other Western powers intended to begin building goodwill. Rather than provoking the West with missile tests, Iran should be kissing our asses and wooing us from the Saudis, otherwise they may find that the US needs neither them, Saudi Arabia, nor even Israel.

At this stage, Iran gathering, building, "credential" with the mass from Uyghur to Bosphorus to Tangier and Cairo (to be effective) .. an "OPEN" embracing of America by Iran at this point and time, counter productive not only for Iran but for US too .. but, under the table, behind the vail, Iran and West in bed since long long time

In the meantime, America/West taking care of Iranian enemies, one by one, all free of charge, thanx

Iran not exporting much oil at this time, maybe, max 1 m b/d .. meaning, "spot" oil @ $ 36 has not much effect on Iran but Saudi who exporting 12 m b/d right now

Next "Al Saud" to go

Less than two weeks since beginning of year, and you have used this thread on US Foreign Policy to discuss everything but the thread's topic NO LESS THAN SIX TIMES !

Couldn't you at least attempt to DISCIPLINE YOURSELF?

And don't give any lame pretext like "Everything is related to everything, and the reverse holds true". OF COURSE, everything is related to everything! But the reason subforums were created is to make it possible to follow up topics a tad bit, instead of having every thread become a garbage can for every other topic. All the examples above, all six of them, are linked first and foremost to other countries than the US of A, or to their respective foreign policies, or... sport policies, even!

Had you done this at another forum I'm contributing to, you would have long been warned in very clear words, then had you failed to correct behaviour, before long a Topol would have been expedited your way. With a H-bomb that actually works.

The Colonel here prefers to use a distant touch, aiming if I understand correctly to foster self-discipline among us. Could you please at least try to oblige?

I generally appreciate your contributions, including when - quite often - I don't agree. But transforming every thread in a garbage can is becoming really irritating.

True, and , OK

But, consider, American foreign policy is not "when things actually happen", say, when US attacks Iraq, or, when now suddenly "AL Saud" falls (like Shah falling .. westerners still no clue why Shah fell, to know why Shah fell one should look what Shah did in 1960's, 20 yrs B4 he fell); but the sentiment and events for years leading to that event .. like somebody falling dead suddenly from cancer, interesting to know what lead to his cancer.

Posting Al-Nemer video, showing the man demanding human rights for Shias in Saudi Arabia, and being beheaded, news is less the nature of Al Saud rule, but pointing to what "imminent" consequence this will have for American foreign policy, at the same time I posted "Riyad's case" trying to explain why they beheaded the poor guy, followed by NYT Op-Ed from Zarif .. IMHO all belonging in American foreign policy (otherwise they would be "single news")

All these players, Saudi, Iran, Israel, Turkey even China/Russia are playing to audience to influence American Foreign Policy .. intelligent observer would pre-sense how American Foreign Policy is influenced for a long period of time by (unrelated) "small events" by players and fundamental shifts to come.

That "Real Funny" article by Spengler in ATOL, Goldman being NEOCON and anti Iran, should show that even Necons now see the change coming to American foreign policy (meaning tilt towards Iran and away from Saudi), this a fundamental change as Necons just recently were advocating an alliance Israel/Arabs against Iran.

If "many things" lead to a "single event" .. events in Yemen & Turkey & Syria & Lebanon & Bahrain will define what happens in Saudi Arabia .. posting news/analysis in different threads would lose the connection.

Once things happen, they are news .. but, one should know why those things happened.

But, your point will be observed

Washington’s political establishment openly calling into question the historic alliance between US and Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia was denounced in the main editorial pages of both the New York Times and the Washington Post – the US’ two leading newspapers – for its “dangerous sectarian policies” and “reckless regime.”

This extraordinary outpouring of condemnation followed the execution of a Shiite cleric last weekend.

The Washington Post described the state killing of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimir as “a step that was as risky and ruthless as it was unjustified.”

We witnessing American Foreign Policy "evolving" .. NYT & WP basically American "elite" talking

I tell you HP, if you took time to properly explain your logic for your posts instead of just thumbtacking blind links everywhere nobody would object to where you post. Why not aim for higher quality and less quantity this year?

Thanx .. fair presentation of things

The real story is, Assad made the mistake to attack the people who where unhappy .. he misjudged the uprising (uprising was for economical reason, mostly by farmers ruined due to long drought).

When things got bad, Saudi and Turks thought they can take advantage of situation and topple Assad (Saudi wanted to get rid of Assad an Iran ally, Turks probably thinking to annex north of Syria where Turkaman live).

Russians (in the mean time back to strong military might), losing 2 of their allies, Saddam and Qaddafi, said "enough is enough".

West now thinking Assad better deal than ISIS

Assad situation improving, Saudi and Turks on downhill path.
