U.S. Internal Policy + Surveillance Society

Post by Typhoon »

A flyer designed by the FBI and the Department of Justice to promote suspicious activity reporting in internet cafes lists basic tools used for online privacy as potential signs of terrorist activity. The document, part of a program called 'Communities Against Terrorism,' lists the use of 'anonymizers, portals, or other means to shield IP address' as a sign that a person could be engaged in or supporting terrorist activity. The use of encryption is also listed as a suspicious activity along with steganography, the practice of using 'software to hide encrypted data in digital photos' or other media. In fact, the flyer recommends that anyone 'overly concerned about privacy' or attempting to 'shield the screen from view of others' should be considered suspicious and potentially engaged in terrorist activities. ... The use of PGP, VPNs, Tor or any of the many other technologies for anonymity and privacy online are directly targeted by the flyer, which is distributed to businesses in an effort to promote the reporting of these activities.

Yeah, we have the 'If you see something, say something.' signs all up around New York City. It's downright Orwellian.

IT World | How to avoid being tagged as a terrorist: Don't pay cash for coffee
Using cash for small purchases like a cup of coffee, gum and other items is a good indication that a person is trying to pass for normal without leaving the kind of paper trail created using a debit or credit card for small purchases.

The most recent update asks coffee shop owners, baristas and other customer-service specialists to be on the lookout for the enemy who walks among us (who evidently has been reanimated from the graves of the 1950s Red Scare era of blacklisting and Communist-baiting or the KGB's constant witch hunt for capitalist sympathizers or people who resent being witch-hunted for their political beliefs).

. . .

Not only does it waste time by identifying everyone as a potential suspect, it erodes what alertness or willingness to cooperate members of the public may have by crying wolf over and over until, the next time a real wolf does show up, it's more likely to get a cup of coffee and pat on the back than a suspicious look-over by a hard-eyed barista.

Opposition to this technique might include enlisting large groups to pay cash for all small purchases to lower the s/n ratio.

OK. Here in Canada, depending on your bank account type, you can get dinged $1.50 per debit transaction. I think these intelligence / fed police folks are working with the banks...

Customers in a Perth shopping centre are being tracked secretly via their mobile phone wireless signals as part of a trial aimed at bringing consumers back to "bricks and mortar" shopping in the face of online competition.

Insights, a program developed by inhouse group, a small digital media company founded in Mandurah, has been in place in an unnamed shopping centre for the past six months.

Sensors hidden in the ceiling are tracking the movements of up to 70,000 customers a week and recording data, including how many people visit, which shoppers return and which departments they frequent.

now, you cant go inducing feature creep on all this.. nothing to be worried about... they wont be busting people for not carrying a mobile and/or not using credit cards... it wont be considered flying under the radar nonononoonn....

Had a lady come to see me for some tech support saying the NSA might have hacked her computer. Plausible of course because she had recently returned from documenting that site for the documentary she is making about the same.

Wanna talk Orwell? I was driving through Orlando off the beaten path the other day. There were these huge billboard- sized TV screens every few blocks or so with a rotating video feed, alternating between a wanted poster for some guy accused of robbing an armored car ( they will never charge someone with " defending his sense of freedom", so I take all allegations with a grain of salt), and a PSA about calling the police when you see something suspicious. It only takes two of those in your line of sight to make it seem like Winston was a prophecy.

Dave Ramsey: "Cash is King"

Thank you Very Much for your post, Crashtech.
Opposition to this technique might include enlisting large groups to pay cash for all small purchases to lower the s/n ratio.
Already in place........

Christian Financial Expert Dave Ramsey encourages people to use cash as much as possible....

Dave's Motto:
"Debt is Dumb
Cash is King
And the paid off mortgage is the new status symbol of choice*"
Using cash slows down spending........ Cash is "real" money...... As opposed to that supposedly magic plastic..........

Cash is the real magic............ If you want to bargain a price down........... Use cash......... Seller gets hypnotized...........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Ramsey

http://www.daveramsey.com/home/

Dave hates credit cards..... they encourage people to get in debt .... even if you pay off every month, on average will spend 10% more.... not real like cash.

"I'm enough of a redneck to like to carry a couple of hundred on me along with my permit to carry a gun ;) "

NOTE: I disagree with Dave about debit cards... He uses them ... I think they are more dangerous than credit cards ... less secure less recourse against fraud.

*And a home is the ONLY thing you should ever go into debt for...........

Per Dave Ramsey people spend 10% more when they use plastic as opposed to cash.......

Do we have a Commercial Surveillance Complex building and growing...........

Maybe not explicitly...............

But maybe yes effectively....................

I see your Orwell.........

I raise you an Apocalypse of Saint John with a trey of sixes
16 He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17 so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

18 This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666.

I am a pretty imaginative fellow, but I am very much at a loss when confronted with things like this. I increasingly feel that "shooting the bastards" is a very appealing proposition, although I wouldn't know where to start. Faced with the terrorist threat, or with the risk of losing your job in the present crisis, far too many people are willing to accept anything which is done to them. I'm starting to understand how ruthless minorities - whether in 18th century France or in Nazi Germany - were capable of controlling whole nations and get away with violence and exploitation. We are biologically programmed to accept being ruled by the toughest bastard in our band, and haven't been able to brake free from that instinct. I'm hoping that the bastards will overplay their hand, and take the crisis a bit further than is bearable. If it goes so far as to trigger an explosion somewhere in the world, the whole world may explode, and we may get rid of the vermin, at least for a while. In view of my age, I may not survive such an explosion, but I'm eager to see it happen.

Thank you Very Much for your post, Endo.

Your feelings may be in part understandable but I would suggest first trying something 3-D ......

Prepare and first become as independent of the Hierarchs as possible..........

Grow & preserve your own food....... Learn about healing herbs....... Exercise & be healthy... Learn first aid......Store your own food & water Learn how to do the basics the old fashioned way or at least as cheaply as possible........ Barter......... and if you can afford it, get off the grid.........

But be quiet about it............ Note to self: Take your own advice, Fool............ ;) :|
far too many people are willing to accept anything which is done to them............
We are biologically programmed to accept being ruled by the toughest bastard in our band**, and haven't been able to brake free from that instinct.
Quite right.... In a crisis, many good people want to be just followers.......... By Cromwell ;) , you are lucky to find a fairly good person willing to lead...
Preparation is important.......... Practice......... Start with small crises if possible....... Be prepared to put on your leader mask and gloves........ Both to make sure someone worse doesn't do it and to make sure that someone does..... *
I'm hoping that the bastards will overplay their hand, and take the crisis a bit further than is bearable. I am NOT eager to see it happen..........

Woe to they who long for the Day of the Lord........ For the Day of the Lord is Darkness and not Light..........

Still need to prep for it.............

We are likely to meet the enemy and find him in us/uz.....

TSA musings.........

Thank you Very Much for your post, Typhoon.

Sad............

Not sure if there is ANY "good" solution is given what we monsters on this insane planet are willing to do*..........

Remembering the Liquid Bomb plot in England where IIRC the perps planned to sneak the bomb components on the plane in baby bottles complete with baby as decoy......... They were planning to all go down for Allah..........

Remembering "Western/white" American converts to Salafi/Al Queda Islam.... like Adam Gadahn and others.

AIUI true converts often are more fanatical than some of those born into a malicious meme..........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadahn#Reports_of_capture

The "Right" likes to complain that TSA should not be doing searches like the above link but IMVHO that would be a mistake at least as we/US are set up now.....

Penn Gillette amusingly suggested a bacon & genital kiss  solution to ferreting out the fanatics........ I remember the 911 hijackers having permission to do strip clubs and alcohol as part of the taquiyya of blending in pre-attack.....

Some tout how the Israelis do plane security.... Could be.... But I wonder if that would be like trying to apply Singapore's solution to drugs to US...

How does one discourage suicide fanatics promised Paradise if they die killing in the name of Allah or whatever.......??

Remembering how in Tokugawa\ Japan, the family members of a criminal were also punished with concern to the exact degree of relation to the perp    .......... a reason Oishi the leader of the 47 or was it 49 Ronin divorced his wife before avenging Asano in an illegal blood feud........

Remembering a suggestion that instead of retaliatory strikes for Palestinian suicide attacks, Israel simply confiscate land in retaliation...... I would suggest that is a very slippery slope .............. sort of like funding the police dept exclusively on traffic violation fines........unless the land is "destroyed" in a way that makes it unsuitable for human use............ maybe digging an moat around Gaza that is constantly widened on the Pali side   ..........

If anyone has "better" ideas, please chime in............

Found this Japanese video on the You Tube site for your video... Very funny .... Think you may have posted it before .... Possibly NSFW (down to bra & panties)

*Self perhaps  included....... see above.........

But so far like those in that "Country Churchyard" this Cromwell has been fortunate largely not to be in a position to do world class damage..........yet

Some village-Hampden, that with dauntless breast
The little tyrant of his fields withstood,
Some mute inglorious Milton here may rest,
Some Cromwell, guiltless of his country's blood.
For the love of G_d, consider you & I may be mistaken.

That's a skit by Ken Shimura - a comedian popular in Japan. It's interesting, is it not, that no explicit mention of the US or the TSA is made, yet that's what everyone watching assumes.
