“What we should do is focus on ISIS. We should not be focusing on Syria,” Trump said in October 2016. “You’re going to end up in World War III over Syria if we listen to Hillary Clinton."

[...]

“We understand that some Americans are skeptical of continued involvement in Syria and question the benefits of maintaining a presence in such a troubled country,” Tillerson said. “However, it is vital for the United States to remain engaged in Syria.”

Senator Richard J. Durbin, Democrat of Illinois :
Trump’s private comments on immigration
“This may not be about security or American jobs at all.”

“After Lindsey and I left the room and got in the car together to come back to Capitol Hill, it was silence in the car,” Mr. Durbin, of Illinois, recalled in an interview on Thursday, describing their mutual distress at the ominous turn the negotiations had taken as well as the president’s conduct. “We had just witnessed something that neither one of us ever expected.”
“This may not be about security or American jobs at all,” Mr. Durbin said. “It may be about something else.”

Yes, true , this not about Jobs or security or rape or terrorists

This about "something else" :D :D ;)

A good sample are the posters on this fora, pretty much all .. "it's about something else"

 .. come on, you no follin Ahmadinejat

“That’s a tough thing to say,” he said. “But I will tell you this: Some of the comments he made were clearly racial during the course of that meeting in the White House. They were hate-filled and vile.”

BTW, CS/Moderator, have you already banned that weirdo "Apollonius" .. or his rant in HELL well within fora standard and guidelines ? .. good to know

Dutch Reporters Stun Trump’s Ambassador By Pressing Him to Admit He Lied About “No-Go Zones”

[...]

Dutch reporters simply ignored a plea from the new U.S. ambassador, Pete Hoekstra, to forget all about the fact that there is video of him lying about their country in 2015. In the video, he insisted that parts of the Netherlands have been surrendered to Islamist radicals that supposedly rule over “no-go zones” for non-Muslims, where Dutch politicians have been set on fire.

[...]

When Hoekstra, who was born in the Netherlands but raised in Michigan as a staunch social conservative, called for another question, two reporters asked him, “Why don’t you answer the question?” Another told the former member of U.S. Congress, “This is the Netherlands; you have to answer questions.”

[...]

Hoekstra had spectacularly failed to defuse the crisis in an interview in December, in which he told a reporter from the Dutch state broadcaster NOS that it was “fake news” to claim that he had said exactly what he had been recorded saying in 2015. Later in the same interview, Hoekstra stunned the reporter by claiming that he had not used the term “fake news” minutes earlier.

Govt shutdown? If it wasn't hyped by DC & MSM talking heads no one would notice. Even with all the hype, few outside of DC, the MSM, and superior Pomegranates living in Canada even care.

video illustration of the govt shutdown negotiating tactic: AjPBp6DOwgU

Hint for HP, both DC and the MSM are the sheriff...... DC pulls gun on itself, and the MSM warns us this could end badly.

Where's the downside? Potential Darwin award on a massive scale here.

DC solving the govt shutdown problem, and then applauding their Herculean efforts and Socratic wisdom, is like Hollywood hosting multiple annual award shows patting themselves on the back for their artistic achievements and social consciousness.

Probably all caused by Global Warming....

NYT

Donald Trump, in each area, has been a colossal failure. The truest measure of his performance comes from comparing his first year not with those of the best — Washington, Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt — but with those of the worst.

..

George Washington warned that the actions of a president “may have great and durable consequences from their having been established at the commencement of a new general government.” If history is any guide — especially in light of the examples closest to his, of Buchanan and Andrew Johnson — Mr. Trump’s first year portends a very unhappy ending.

This in reality belongs to "Political Levitas" thread.

Amen

Donald Trump produced best economy in 20 years, first year better than any year obama had. Right now Trump's approval number, even though fake, is higher than when he was elected.

Look for 3 Trump terms.

Davos , Switzerland
Kang Kyung-Wha, South Korea's Foreign Minister
.. idea of a military solution is unacceptable

She declined to comment if Washington had given Seoul clear assurance but added: “This is our fate that is at stake. Any option that is to be taken on the Korean peninsula, cannot be implemented without us going along.”

Well, folks, message is clear .. "unacceptable", in diplomatic jargon, same as F.U.

Meaning, South and north part of Korean want US not meddle in their getting together talks

rhetoric is lovely, everyone enjoys having a good rant or making a strong stance however you can always bypass the gibberish that comes out our mouths by seeing what we actually do.

south korea has already made its position clear by having many american millitary bases on its soil.

im sure if them (and japan) wanted them gone, they would be, but they havent, so meh.

Stealth Postmodernist
or Just a Liar ?

How should we explain the fact that President Trump got away with making 2,140 false or misleading claims during his initial year in office ?

Both the left,
in America’s First Postmodern President (written by Jeet Heer in The New Republic last summer),
and the right,
in Donald Trump Is The First President To Turn Postmodernism Against Itself (written by David Ernst in The Federalist a year ago), have argued that Trump, without knowing the first thing about, say, Michel Foucault, is an avatar of the rejection of objective truth.

then it is Donald F. McGahn II who is in charge of the current US Executive Branch, not POTUS Trump.

To save himself
Trump is tearing at the credibility of country’s most important institutions

.
Trump’s Unparalleled War on a Pillar of Society: Law Enforcement

..

At the start of his administration, Mr. Trump targeted the intelligence community for his criticism. But in recent months, he has broadened the attacks to include the sprawling federal law enforcement bureaucracy that he oversees, to the point that in December he pronounced the F.B.I.’s reputation “in tatters” and the “worst in history.”

..

“It’s one thing for the president to criticize political appointees — although it is quite odd for him to criticize his own political appointees,” said Alan Rozenshtein, a lawyer who left the Justice Department’s national security division in April and now teaches at the University of Minnesota law school. But to attack career employees at the F.B.I. who are barred by regulations from publicly responding, he said, “that’s really bad.”

Josh Campbell, who spent a decade at the F.B.I. and worked directly for Mr. Comey at one time, wrote in The Times on Saturday that he was resigning so that he could speak out. “These political attacks on the bureau must stop,” he wrote. “If those critics of the agency persuade the public that the F.B.I. cannot be trusted, they will also have succeeded in making our nation less safe.”

One F.B.I. supervisor in a field office said public shaming of his colleagues had wiped out any desire he had to work at the bureau’s headquarters in Washington. “I’d rather chew glass,” he said.

Mary McCord, a former acting assistant attorney general for the national security division, left the Justice Department in May after 23 years. Every new administration, she said, ushered in new priorities and policies. But only Mr. Trump, she said, had put the entire department under a cloud.

“I’ve never seen attacks on the F.B.I. or the D.O.J. like we’ve seen in the last year,” she said. “It makes me just really sad.”

FBI warns Republican memo could undermine faith in massive, unaccountable government secret agencies - The Onion, 1 February 2018
https://politics.theonion.com/fbi-warns ... 1822639681

Director Christopher Wray warned Thursday that releasing the “Nunes Memo” could potentially undermine faith in the massive, unaccountable government secret agencies of the United States. “Making this memo public will almost certainly impede our ability to conduct clandestine activities operating outside any legal or judicial system on an international scale,” said Wray, noting that it was essential that mutual trust exist between the American people and the vast, mysterious cabal given free rein to use any tactics necessary to conduct surveillance on U.S. citizens or subvert religious and political groups. “If we take away the people’s faith in this shadowy monolith exempt from any consequences, all that’s left is an extensive network of rogue, unelected intelligence officers carrying out extrajudicial missions for a variety of subjective, and occasionally personal, reasons.” At press time, Wray confirmed the massive, unaccountable government secret agencies were unaware of any wrongdoing for violating constitutional rights.

Trump triumphs with release of House intel memo - David P. Goldman, PJ Media, 2 February 2018
https://pjmedia.com/spengler/trump-triu ... ntel-memo/

... No foreign intelligence service could learn anything from the House Republicans’ memo except that the FBI retailed the mercenary inventions of a retired British spook and concealed the provenance of its information. Some may consider it dangerous to expose senior officials of America’s counterintelligence service as political hacks and fools. They needn’t worry. America’s adversaries have been well aware of this for a long time.

Trump better jail a lot of people toot sweet. This two weeks of rumor about the damning memo with no action except to predict four or five more media circus events will not hold.

The American people want perp walks NOW! Trump has been President for over a year and has not shown any desire to take action. Trump even has no interest in Las Vegas or the train derailment that nearly dumped the GOP house majority into a garbage truck.

My personal theory is still that the silent military coup was successful and Trump was reduced to being a puppet of the Pentagon. Expect lots of moral posturing by Trump but no arrests.
