Whatever happened to the rallying cry of celebrate diversity? Expecting wildly divert groups and individuals to conform to similar high standards..... isn't that cultural appropriation, or racist or sexist or something?

Joes freedom leads him to self discipline and a productive life. Fred's freedom allows him to sit on the couch, watch porn, gorge himself on ice cream, Dr. Pepper, and snort coke. Expecting similar behaviors and values..... that's not freedom, that's oppression!

I feel for you Atari, I too have reached the age where the past was always a better country. There are many parallels between the US 100 years ago, and Canada today. Both sparsely settled countries with much less institutionalized governments. I'd tell you to Go West, young man! but you already have! :P

The rot inside America’s first family
Donald Trump’s relatives show up in every field of US global engagement

.

Last year the American people rejected political dynasty. Farewell Clintons. Goodbye Bushes. In their stead, we have the most dynastic first family in American history.

Donald Trump’s administration is little more than the Trump family plus some disposable retainers. It is unclear where the White House ends and the Trump business empire begins. One reason Mr Trump took against Qatar may have been that an influential Qatari denied Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, a $500m loan.

The Gulf state has reportedly rejected Mr Trump’s requests in the past. What were we thinking — that Mr Trump suddenly developed strong views on Gulf Arab politics? As the saying goes: follow the money. It is a mistake to read too much into Mr Trump’s actions. They are usually hidden in plain sight.

This week’s revelations about Donald Trump Jr are a case in point. For the first time since Mr Trump took office, the word “treason” has entered the currency. But its connotations are too Machiavellian. People who commit treason against their country are usually seduced by ideology or inducement.

No. The reason for Trump's nepotism is he has so few people in politics he can trust. People keep forgetting he is an interloper in the Republican club.

A family member NOT getting a loan is the exact opposite of corruption and of precisely zero importance, but the point about Trump relying too heavily on unqualified family members as diplomats is valid.

bummer dude. The evil of being identified by group identity. Rather than seeing him as a doctor, husband, or father, he was viewed as an Iranian. You know, those people who are always burning the US flag and chanting "Death to America!" ;)

Why would you want to allow those people into your country?

Maybe he shoulda picked a county to visit that his fellow Iranians don't hate? Maybe like Cuba?

Someday maybe, "we" can get back to viewing people as individuals. I doubt it. That only happens on a person to person level.

My prescription for you still has not changed HP, unplug and drive! ;)

Nat Post | Two more [US] Republican senators oppose health bill, killing latest attempt to replace Obamacare
[US Sen.] McConnell is now at least two votes short in the closely divided Senate and may have to go back to the drawing board or even begin to negotiate with Democrats, a prospect he’s threatened but resisted so far. Or he could abandon the health care effort, which has proven more difficult than many Republicans envisioned after campaigning on the issue for years, and move on to tax legislation, a bigger Trump priority to begin with.
[Incidentally thanks to Azeri for introducing the Nat Post on this board. What I find remarkable is that it's writers range from hardcore-conservatives to postmodern regressive-progressives. Rare in a newspaper.]

Even the half-baked, face-saving, repeal-now-replace-in-two-years proposal McConnell floated today was immediately squashed. Haha! What a spectacular failure. Donald Trump is utterly incompetent at grasping the issue here. He hasn't bothered to get involved or even informed and has instead expected someone else to do the work for him, as has been his modus operandi for his entire professional life. Unfortunately, Trump is also a terrible deal maker, poor tactician, and has no capacity for strategic thinking.

He thinks he can blame this on the superminority party but early indications are that voters are going to make the GOP own this, especially if Trump resorts to vengeful tactics, like blocking subsidy payments, to force Obamacare into a death spiral.

The GOP has cemented its reputation as the party of incompetence.
