C'mon who are you fooling?

Though I personally did not go to the University of Connecticut I know plenty about Kazem Kazeerouin from word of mouth attesting to him being a terrible professor at an engineering school which only US News ranks in the top 100 (tied somewhere in the 60s).

And that's not a complete knock on the school or its students- I'm sure it produces enough capable and productive engineers;
but its not top tier and these midlevel foreign students going to midlevel universities are precisely the problem- a swindle by the universities to grow their wealth and protect their status.

VOA is voice of deep state, therefore fake news. Iranian engineers should go home, help their home country. It's the right thing to do.

The Ministry of All Knowledge of SimpleMindedStan (MAKS) has reams of data showing that breathing in rarefied, remote mountain village air for extended periods does make one smarter. We don't hold the low intelligence of the outsiders against them. It's not their fault.

Add in the well known effects of AGW, a bit of parallel universe and string theory, and suddenly, bang, azari doesn't seem as nuts as the less enlightened members of the world may think.

Once we all catch on, there will be no more Iran cause everybody is going to use Iranian DNA to produce their designer test tube kids.

"For us to not have access to that talent pool is a major, major blow. It is unimaginable in schools of engineering across the country to lose that talent," said Kazem Kazerounian, dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut, which has accepted 15 Iranian students so far.

The University of Massachusetts at Amherst has offered acceptance to 42 Iranian students in graduate programs, and their absence would interfere with the progress of research, said John McCarthy, dean of the university's graduate school.

At the University of Central Florida, 30 percent of the students working at the school's Center for Research in Computer Vision are from Iran, and all of them play key roles in research, said Mubarak Shah, director of the center. Some, for example, are working on a $1.3 million project funded by a federal grant to develop computer technology that can quickly analyze thousands of hours of surveillance footage in an effort to help speed up criminal investigations.

True, Iranian students not the only members of the talent pool, but they the only one who stay and become head of hospitals and faculty in Stanford and Harvard and MIT.

The other talent, Chinese and German and Japanese and Taiwanese and Indian (they in much smaller numbers), they go back home once they done in US.

Check how many key science positions, medicine, tech etc Iranians and how many Japanese in US .. Check how many VP of GE are Iranians (I know personally of 2 of them) and how many Japanese .. How many Japanese scientist in NASA ? or faculty head in top of the top American universities ? not aware of any .. but many Iranians

Japanese scientist don't stay, go back to Japan .. To Tokyo university.

Good sample is our own CS .. he studied in US, but went back to Japan :D

Why should a German or Japanese Scientist stay in US ? they have top of the line research facilities @ home, with "unlimited" funding

Iranian talent come to US ONLY because America offers much superior facilities (and funding) and high demand for their talent .. Iran can not absorb and does not have the means for high end research centres etc, if Iran had the means, not a single talent would leave Iran, they would stay with their family and friends .. you need just to read Iranian university student news papers.

Table 2. US Colleges and Universities. Top 10 International Student Countries of Origin, SY 1949-50, SY 1979-80, and SY 2014-15

There was an understandable spike in Iranian students after an intolerant theocracy was established in Greaterwhateverstan.

Some went on to do well. I personally know a few. However, this is now history.
Most research papers that I read today from the US, the grad students have Chinese and/or Indian and/or other names.

Anyways, this is absurdly off topic. Further posts about anything Iranian in this Trump thread will be summarily deleted.

We talking "top talent" .. PHd candidates (cream of the cream, not just garden variety PHd) who top American universities are chasing after

Iranian students, since 1980, rarely get student visa to US .. except for higher education , post graduate, phd and doctorate .. those candidates are actively targeted in Iranian universities by top American universities, most get their green-card even before ever set foot in America .. once in America, they mostly proclaimed as American.

Any Thailand or Saudi Arabia head of faculty in Stanford or Harvard ? ever met a Saudi head of medicine in John Hopkins or Mayo Clinic (not a single Japanese or Saudi or Thailand specialist in Mayo Clinic, but lots of Iranian specialist) or in Nasa .. mostly Iranians

We talking "cream of the cream" talent .. world mathematic olympiad gold medal winners .. head of German robotics research .. these kind of people we talking

Many foreign students, specially Saudi and others, are sent by their government, they not caliber of showing on any radar.

To understand what we talking here, google world olympiad winners in mathematics, science etc .. many Iranians beating participants worldwide .. those are the ones top American universities are after and who become head of faculty in Harvard and Stanford.

Q) What do you call an Iranian with a PhD?

A) Waiter

Education: The PhD factory

The world is producing more PhDs than ever before. Is it time to stop?

David Cyranoski , Natasha Gilbert , Heidi Ledford , Anjali Nayar & Mohammed Yahia

In some countries, including the United States and Japan, people who have trained at great length and expense to be researchers confront a dwindling number of academic jobs, and an industrial sector unable to take up the slack. Supply has outstripped demand and, although few PhD holders end up unemployed, it is not clear that spending years securing this high-level qualification is worth it for a job as, for example, a high-school teacher. In other countries, such as China and India, the economies are developing fast enough to use all the PhDs they can crank out, and more — but the quality of the graduates is not consistent. Only a few nations, including Germany, are successfully tackling the problem by redefining the PhD as training for high-level positions in careers outside academia. Here, Nature examines graduate-education systems in various states of health.

True, these days there's PHd for everything, baking Pizza, making Spaghetti alle vongole

That is why I emphasize MIT and Sanford, and John Hopkins and Caltech .. their PHd are those who created Google and who bring the bacon home to American Joe.

And .. Colonel Sun, I repeat, how many Japanese top medical specialist in Mayo Clinics or in Stanford Medical faculty .. non .. but many Iranians .. yes, many top Japanese and German scientist, but they in Japan and Germany .. True, the Indians, just off the boat, they now excelling too, but only in "specific" technical sector (all from "Indian Institute of Technology Bombay") .. again, check how many Indian world class specialist doctors in America .. NON .. but many Iranian.

What Doc brings into this debate is valid and true .. many nations followed American model and deregulated academic titles .. PHd etc .. result was any 2-bit BS collage was printing PHd like donuts, the quality of PHd collapsed.

That is why, it depends PHd from where ? .. University of Tokyo ? MIT ? Stanford, Caltech, UCLA , Imperial collage ? ETH ?

Try to entroll in PHd in stanford, MIT or Caltech

One must be very special to be accepted.

A lot of top notch talent cant wait, leave early and start their own, happens often .. you talking of top top caliber talent

A few yrs ago, you guys were badmouthing the Russians, imagine you would not let "Sergey" in, there would be no google now

Imagine America would have not let Syrians in .. there would be no Apple today.

What does it say to you that from all the top talent in America and Japan and Britain and Germany, 2 guys, fresh off the boat, from Indian "Indian Institute of Technology Bombay" are chosen to be CEO of top of the top American company Google and Microsoft ? ?

Did you notice when Trump meeting top Silicon Valley guys no Indian was present .. "Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google" was not present, but, next to Trump was "Sheryl Sandberg", Zero qualification (except : wink wink) and in an industry (FB) that if you shut it down right now only bums will notice it, nobody else.

"Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google" has a degree in metallurgy engineering, he is the same type of "mechanics" engineer you laughed at earlier, he then became a product manager for google, managing teams of programmers.

id say he has a good head for business and is good at motivating teams, advanced science is not his thing.

back to that Iranian woman I mentioned. She's called Zahra Haghani and you can read her paper, "Matter May Matter" online. I'll avoid summarising because, well, it's way beyond my rudimentary understanding of physics. But what Sparrho has done is analyse her writing, and determined that she was one of several writers who were statistically most similar to Einstein.

Reason for that is, humbly and respectfully, CS, you reading at floor 5 , we debating floor 888 .. you not @ floor we talking about

Chinese would only hire the best of the best for "High Energy Physics (CFHEP) in China, Beijing", the best of the best .. from Tabriz

Very astonished that a (supposedly) scientist would say this

Top top talent in any discipline in science, any faculty, not a single one cares about money .. Did Einstein or Oppenheimer or Fermi or Teller cared about money ?

That is the "characteristic" of those top of the top talent, they not into it for the money, in reality they awful business people (most scientist who start their own business go broke for mismanaging it).

All Iranian top top talent who came and come to America and now in leading positions, all , only one exception, come for love of science, non came as economic or political refugee, ZERO, none .. scientist neither into politics nor into money, otherwise they would not achieve that level of excellence.

Exception is Pardis Sabeti

Chan School of Public Health, and is an institute member at the Broad Institute and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.[8] She is the head of the Sabeti Lab.

OK, once again, I will try to help you people out. Try to keep up.

Immigration summary: Smart Iranians leave Iran and come to the West. Some achieve great things. Others get on the internet and proselytize about how great Iran was, is, or will be. The later are also grate.

They're all great or grate. As always, eye of the beholder.

Got it.

The question is are the migrants grater/greater than the stayers?

Discuss it amoungst yerselfs.

id say he has a good head for business and is good at motivating teams, advanced science is not his thing.
I'd say something similiar for Sheryl Sandburg, however begrudgingly..... ;)

Reading eyewitness accounts of Facebook portrays a rudderless-panic of a company that was bound to be eaten alive without her.

Simple Minded, all this began when Trump, controlled by Zionist, started attacking Iranians, specially Iranians who have chosen America as home.

There is not a "single" Iranian in Jail worldwide for terrorism, but Iranian and not those who really do those terrorism are the bad guys.

As Buchanan said, Israel has 100+ nuclear weapon and drops white phosphoros bombs on schools, but Iran who has no nuclear weapon is the most danger in the world.

Terrorists are from Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco , Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan .. any limitation on them, any badmouthing on them ? NO

Posters here (with no exception) have talked down Iranians, despite all the facts well known to them .. that perverts the facts and leads to unreal debating of other related issues .. how can one debate truthfully North Korea or ISIS or Wahhabism or terrorism when at the same time attacking our beloved Persia ? ? ? :D
