I have a feeling that Hugo Chavez won't last much longer. Now there is news of him having "alternative" treatments.

It seems increasingly likely that Hugo Chavez will be unable to take his oath of office and may soon die. The question now is whether Vice-President Maduro will win the almost inevitable elections, and be able to continue the Bolivarian revolution. He is probably intellectually competent but he will not inherit Chavez charisma. But that might be a blessing in disguise. Venezuela must learn living in a normal manner, and Venezuelans could benefit from a little less excitement. But will the revolution survive? Probably yes. As long as enough efforts are made to continue improving the quality of life of the poorer Venezuelans the revolution will prevail and a majority of people will continue supporting it. And eventually even the richer Venezuelans will realize that going back is impossible, and that they must learn sharing wealth and power with the other Venezuelans. Maduro's priority should thus be spreading firms ownership so thinly that economic power will no longer be a threat to democracy. Generalizing the use of cooperatives would be the best way to do it, but there may be other ways to achieve the same results.

BBC story on Chavez death, in case anyone wanted to hear from British imperialists.

The way I see it, he made some mistakes; but he did try, with some success, to improve the lives of the masses in Venezuela.

Hopefully his successor will learn from his mistakes while still striving to improve lives.

Hot News From Hell - Chavez says that Bush W is Not the Devil ;) ....

Thank You VERY Much for your post, Doc.

You beat me to the scoop......... Congratulations ;) ...........

FWIW, Hannity on his radio show remarked that this is Bad News for Michael Moore & the Cuban Medical System Moore touted......

Fox Cable News saying this is Bad News for Iran...... Chavez helped Iran by pass sanctions

That Chavez was a unorthodox socialist..... a Bolivarian..... But doctrinaire anti American.........

Just on Fox...... Chavez also had a Visceral ;) Hatred for Uz..........

And others.....

Bad news for Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and other socialist governments that he was supporting with oil money......

Recalling a video a clan member shared with me about Chavez cursing Israel from his entrails.....
With the comment that it was ironic that Chavez's entrails were now cursed with cancer....

For me, he was a fat clumsy clown
A Castro Killer Klown Wannabe ........
Who ran the economy into the ground
With inflation.......

With not much respect for the constitution beginning from his coup days............
Remembering the time he tried to get elected Leader for Life.....
He said that he had failed........
For now.........

Now he has both succeeded ;) and failed forever.......

Hope Chavez died well confessed.......
Or he may have discovered that George W.W. Bush for all his faults..........
Is not the Devil.... ;)

It only shows you never lived through a fascist reign of terror. It usually starts with something like the Patriot Act, so better get ready...

Chavez sucked, but Endo is right about decaying civil rights and institutions having grim implications.

In terms of Latin American lefties I prefer Morales.
