Another vulnerability created in respect of US dominance. The Empire is doomed to disappear.

The Empire can easily occupy the new canal. Or make the Nicaraguan government deny passage to certain nations.

Also: "Meanwhile, ecologists fear the giant ship canal will endanger Lake Nicaragua - Central America's largest lake and Nicaragua’s largest main water source – which the waterway will run through."

Reeaaally great idea.

Interesting how "ecologists" - CIA ecologists? - only seem to be concerned with this lake...

Originally the US did not build a canal in Nicaragua because of all the vulcanos

Looks like Chinese are building the Canal

If so,

Am sure, Nicaragua will have some kind of special treaty with China for protection of the Canal

But

IMO

Nicaragua Canal is in benefit of US too, as it gives a 2nd venue in case Panama Canal is, for whatever reason, closed for a period of time

Issues in the future will not be anymore military, but economy

Am sure China and America have discussed this and have found a common ground .. once construction begins, US will announce it's approval, am sure

The Panama canal is pretty much indefensible. It would only take three guys with the dynamite they could carry on their backs, to put it out of commission for two to three years.

Panama Canal is "VITAL" to American security, economic, military etc etc "national interest"

An out of service Panama Canal would be disaster for USA

A "SECOND canal" should be in primary American national interest

In that sense, I do not see any issue or problem Nicaragua building the Canal

I don't discount the possibility of CIA (or National Endowment for Democracy) funding for these protests, but that doesn't excuse the destruction.

The US has in fact controlled the Panama Canal since the beginning, even if that control has not been used so far against any one country. A situation which could change in case of a wider conflict. Being able to disrupt an essential sea lane is strategically important. Two channels would make that a lot more difficult, and thus the Nicaragua Canal goes against US interests.

Wang Jing .. (secretive) Chinese Billionaire behind the project .. is said, close to Chinese military

Seems he will be in control of the Canal for 50 yrs, with option to extend another 50 yrs

Looks like this (sort of) Chinese government/military project

interesting.

for the moment i think endo got it right with
even if that control has not been used so far against any one country
but i also observe that its exactly this kind of behaviour from china that you think justifies russia getting all aggresive at america.

nice double standards.

I know the US should build a south China Sea canal by treaty with and between the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Taiwan giving it exclusive control for 50 years with an option for another 50 years. :D
