Bubbles & Info Age Tech

Post by Simple Minded »

nother deep thought I am too lazy to artikulate.

coupla years back, I heard an interview with some guru discussing Information Age Technology, Social Media, and its effects on people.

He made a statement that struck me. He called the new methods of communicating that were available to be "the ultimate tool of peer pressure reinforcement."

Bubbles..... cheap Information Age Technology.... herd behavior..... Big Brother...... crowd control...... Mass marketing...

Discuss it amoungst yourselves....

Another good one: You are Not a Gadget by Jaron Lanier
Men often oppose a thing merely because they have had no agency in planning it, or because it may have been planned by those whom they dislike.

Monster Gardner,

Thanks for your post. I read Mackay about 25 years ago, just when the bubble was starting. It might have prevented me from getting sucked in a little bit, but mostly I credit Gramma.

Kinda sad that people don't change much, but then again, it does make things more predictable.

bubbles are just harvesting.

first person finds the new fruit tree, more people join in until all the fruit is gone.

at this point some people get all upset and start spouting conspiracy, when they should have been looking for the next fruit tree.
