Good Time to Observe Saturn.

Saturn is just past opposition and so is near its brightest for the year.

Rings are visible.

Right now in the general area of Spica in Virgo & Arcturus in Bootes. Bright but not overly bright yellowish "star".

Mercury next to Venus in Evening Sky

Post by monster_gardener »

Chance to observe Mercury near Venus in the evening sky:

Mercury can be hard to find because it is so near the Sun.

Having the Very bright Venus as a guidepost can help to find Mercury.
Mercury is quite low in the west shortly after sunset. It’s faint, but you should be able to find it because it’s just to the upper left of Venus, the “evening star.” The two worlds will stand side by side tomorrow evening.

Saturday night the moon occults a brighter star, 3rd magnitude Beta Capricorni, around 8 p.m. CDT. Again, the U.S., Canada and Mexico are favored. Click HERE for times. -
See more at: http://astrobob.areavoices.com/2013/10/ ... eIyRz.dpuf

FWIW Beta Capricorni is very complex multiple star system.........

Good Libration for Western Moon. Check out Grimaldi.

Based on my observation today, currently the Moon is in a good libration for the Western limb: Easier to observe features near the Western edge like Grimaldi crater & the Mare Orientale.

Cool Wallpaper-Moon & Hypothetical Brighter Andromeda Galaxy

Post by monster_gardener »

Thank You VERY Much for maintaining the forum Admins Typhoon & YMix,

Cool Wallpaper photo of the Moon & a Hypothetical Brighter Andromeda Galaxy....

Shows that if it were brighter, the Andromeda Galaxy would be seen bigger/covering more sky than the Moon!

Better photo linked at site.
