That's why the Nobel Awards are in the science + tech section.

I lose interest after the chemistry Nobel laureates are announced.

Literature is often a surprise.

Svetlana Alexievich: "for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time."

How much of this award is based on talent and how much is based on politics is a puzzle to me.

Of English language authors who were unjustly snubbed, Graham Greene and C. P. Snow come to mind.

In the case of Greene, apparently someone on the award committee strongly disliked him and it came down to who would outlive the other.

Lots of people expect 村上 [Murakami] to receive the award, but he never does.

Funny story about Greene, and I would be surprised if it weren't true.

I think that Murakami will win eventually. He's relatively young.

I've heard that "Norwegian Wood" is good.

Lack of showmanship. Let the professional wrestling people do the Nobel announcements one year and watch the difference. Instead of a little coin the physics folks could compete for an Iron Man style "Van Allen Belt". Other disciplines could recieve similar upgrades.
