I'm not holding my breath..... rugged individualists, and university stoner types have a lot of pride....... they may not be cognizant of our superiority...... ;)

"What does it mean to be a rugged individualist?"

Perhaps a committee should be formed to find out.

There's a new party being born: The People Who Hate People Party.
People who hate people, come together!
"No!"
We're kind of having trouble getting off the boards, you know.
Come to our meeting!
"Are you gonna be there?"
Yeah.
"Then I ain't fu*king coming."
But you're our strongest member!
"Fu*k you!"
That's what I'm talking about, you asshole.
"Fu*k off!"
Damn, we almost had a meeting going. It's so hard to get my people together.

One would think that Special Individualists and Rugged Snowflakes would come together more often for the common good.......

I stayed out for 5 pages and our greatest minds couldn't come up with anything. Lets see what another 5 pages yields.

It's being a Grover Cleveland Democrat. What else is there?

Let's see what another 5 pages of Mr. Perfect awaiting to see 5 pages yields. Could our greatest minds conjure up what that looks like?

Methinks, yes. ;)

Well I wasn't entirely accurate, the consensus is that it doesn't exist, but if it does it is dangerous, should be hated and sneered at. Cue Condell video, 1, 2, 3...

Ah, a critic.
Critics are like eunuchs in a harem; they know how it's done, they've seen it done every day, but they're unable to do it themselves.

Mr. P., it has already been established that you are not a genuine rugged individualist. Nobody keeps you from giving a damn about others and just go out hunting in the market place to bring home the money meat for yourself and your family. As all rugged individualists do. Instead you are hysterically chasing others, half of whom are figments of your own imagination and the other half doesn't care about you either. ;)

The reasons you try to be a rugged individualist but fail to do so.. are according to Dr. Phil:

1) the delusional though that you somehow own America or are entitled to do so, and
2) your belief in an over-Lord who promised you and your faithful friends to inherit not only America.. but the entire world. After your enemies, those who wear The Sign of the Beast are destroyed of course.

The megalomanic delusion that your fight is a cosmic battle between good and evil:

A capitalist cannot be an individualist. Beyond barter, it makes one reliant on the promises and actions of others.

Do not despair, Mr. P. In a few pages I am sure you will uncover one of those dastardly "liberals" or "progressives" and your frame can be successfully applied once again.

If you get to have frames you have to let other people have frames.

If capitalism was social the socialists would love capitalism. And they hate it.

I don't understand Parodite's idea of rugged individualist, at all.

It's as if it's an astronaut attempted an account of something he heard of, but never experienced, on an alien planet.

I never would in a million year have associated the term with hermit or an autistic person.

So when I read, "people suppose," I keep repeating in my head, "suppose what?"

But obviously his definition makes sense to other people here and I am in the minority- I'd say I've been the one in space on this one if not for the simple fact that...

I think I've met more people who would define themselves as rugged individualists. It's like living in the midst of silverback gorillas- been there, done that-- never met a gorilla that turned out to be a hermit.

Have met one that was in Herman's Hermits though. Which is strange, why would have a gorilla in a pop band? :D

Right, that's the part I'm stuck on.

I guess what I'm trying to ask you *looks down at feet and kicks the dirt*

Why do you think what you think here? Where does this thread start from?

More impressions! Less assertions!

Simple Minded will probably be better able than me to answer your questions. I don't know what a RI really is.. which is why I asked the question in the thread title.

Well, I guess I'm not askin' what I'm asking the right way, my bad. Back to ruminating on it.

P, it's an American concept I don't expect you to get it. But there are loads of materials on it. I would really commend capitalism unknown ideal, virtue of selfishness or the sackett series by Louis lamour. It will be a rich and rewarding experience for you.
