What do conservatives fear?

Post by manolo »

Hi,

What is it that conservatives fear? They talk a tough game at all times and in all parts of the world, but there is something that they fear, viscerally, and on an existential level. What is it?

The Belgian writer, Lauryssens, writes of a proto – fascist in pre ww11 Germany:

“For Moeller van den Bruck there is no doubt that again the arch enemy of German culture is liberalism, which stands for everything that is corrupt.”

The last line of the above could have been written by an American Christian Republican in the year 2017. “..liberalism, which stands for everything that is corrupt.” The line is universal - “everything” and finally judgemental - “corrupt”. For those that hold to this belief, the words 'crooked Hillary' would likely have been a lighting rod to what they already know is true, and the sight of Obama's polished shoes on the president's desk in the oval office? I'll leave that to the imagination.

Of course there is a religious ontology to this thinking for the American Christian Republicans: the “fall” of man. Again, for those who believe this story, there is no reasoning to be done, for the world is fallen and can never be put right by liberal, and as they believe, tainted secular tinkering with God's plan. Such dangerously wrong ideas and practices lead straight to the horrors of socialism, communism and the demon. For them, it is a done deal.

I'll confess that there is little comfort in the above analysis, but sometimes it is reassuring to look into the other's mind and see it as it is. Fearful.

C'mon Alex, If you really want to know, just ask your daughter! ;) Maybe they fear becoming like their parents?

One of these days, "we" need to define liberal and conservative, hopefully with more success than the OTNOT attempt at was Hitler a lefty or a righty?

Probably better questions are:
1. What dies the person who defines their self as liberal fear about the people they define as conservative?
2. What dies the person who defines their self as conservative fear about the people they define as liberal?
3. Why do I find some inkblots to be scarier than other inkblots?

FWIW, since you still haven't given me your R1, I define you as conservative. :P

Conservatives are afraid what value they have created will be destroyed by negligence and greed.

Mr Perfect is okay with greed.

and manolo is fine with a childish strawman deconstruction of millions people that leaves them represented as incapable of participation whilst blaming the other for doing likewise, all without a hint of irony.

politics is a glorious thing sometimes.

some folks might even have a metaphor for all that.

I always enjoy it when the poster says "I self-identify as a member of tribe X, and we're so much smarter than them, that we can't understand what is going on inside the little brains of the members of tribe Y." And when you say it like you are a kid watching ants, it sounds even better.

But since you asked for a metaphor, I have noticed male dogs sometimes lick their own balls. I wonder why?

Personally I am giving them a wide berth. Having led insular heavily filtered lives being dispatched rudely to the dustbin of history the last couple of elections has caused the deepest political trauma I've ever seen. And enjoyed btw.

One of the differences between us is I can't be insular, I can't not know everything about their inner workings because they are broadcasted on loop 24/7 in every msm outlet. I know the liberal better than the liberal does.

Did they die because of the insularity? No, they lost because their ideology is an assault to human life. It came to a natural end.

Why do dogs lick their own balls? They are rugged individualists.

Are you talking about licking one's own balls, or the intellectual masturbation of tribal identity proving one's superior morality and intellectuality?

we need to come up with a new ____ist word to identify the pathology.... and maybe get some grant money in the process.

Francis’ reforms spark revolt of the hard-right
The pontiff faces criticism for his stance on social issues, including support for Muslim refugees

.

Pope Francis, he says, has encouraged “relativism” in the Church, become “almost obsessed” with welcoming migrants, failed to understand that Islam is an “aggressive religion” that needed to be confronted and sought to sideline anyone who disagreed.

“The Catholic Church is in a state of unprecedented confusion,” he says. “There is a lack of orientation and clarity which leads to tensions and divisions and paves the way for a schism. I have met various cardinals, bishops and priests who have privately expressed their discontent with the direction of this papacy.”

.

Those old guard, who derailed RCC making it a business, now wanting to derail Francis trying to bring back Christianity to "moral beacon".

Well...... because Western Civilisation with all its flaws and defects is still the best thing to happen to human beings - both men AND women. And it looks like people are stupidly trying to throw it away and we'll all end up dying cruel and pointless deaths to no particular purpose. That and nihilistic hipster posturing is hella annoying though it's fun to troll...........

I thought the answer was "Because they can."

____

1st guy: "Your dog is really licking his balls."

2nd guy: "Yeah, he does that a lot."

1st guy: "I wish I could do that."

2nd guy: "Well, okay, but you might want to make friends with him first. He is a bit aggressive with strangers."

western women are too free, they can make bad choices and feel bad for themselves for having made those choices.

they need culture to take those stressful things away, reduce the ability to make bad decisions, let them see the proper moral path.
