Flood stories are in all kinds of ancient cultures, all over the world. Jesus believed in the flood of Genesis, Matthew 24:7. I think Bill Maher should stick with his specialties, whatever they may be. Like many pop culture personalities, ever brilliant insight he had has been thought of and rebutted by many other people a very long time ago, he just never looked into it, displaying ultimately his ignorance. A deeply ignorant MMGW believing person.

I see no reason to see the new movie.

British Pathé releases 85,000 films on YouTube

Newsreel archive British Pathé has uploaded its entire collection of 85,000 historic films, in high resolution, to its YouTube channel. This unprecedented release of vintage news reports and cinemagazines is part of a drive to make the archive more accessible to viewers all over the world.

“Our hope is that everyone, everywhere who has a computer will see these films and enjoy them,” says Alastair White, General Manager of British Pathé. “This archive is a treasure trove unrivalled in historical and cultural significance that should never be forgotten. Uploading the films to YouTube seemed like the best way to make sure of that.”

British Pathé was once a dominant feature of the British cinema experience, renowned for first-class reporting and an informative yet uniquely entertaining style. It is now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in existence. Spanning the years from 1896 to 1976, the collection includes footage – not only from Britain, but from around the globe – ofmajor events, famous faces, fashion trends, travel, sport and culture. The archive is particularly strong in its coverage of the First and Second World Wars.

Alastair White continues: “Whether you’re looking for coverage of the Royal Family, the Titanic, the destruction of the Hindenburg, or quirky stories about British pastimes, it’ll be there on our channel. You can lose yourself for hours.”

This project is being managed by German company Mediakraft, which has been responsible for numerous past YouTube successes. The company will be creating new content using British Pathé material, in English and in foreign languages.

Bert Haanstra - Alleman [Everyman or The Human Dutch] (1963, English narration)

Bert Haanstra became Holland's leading filmmaker. His next feature, The Human Dutch, broke all previous records, even those set by The Brass Band. The Dutch flocked to the cinema that Christmas holiday in 1962 The Human Dutch paints a picture of the Dutch and pokes gentle fun at their peculiarities. As in Zoo, Haanstra and cameraman Anton van Munster filmed people as they unwittingly went about their business The basic idea was to show how people behave in specific situation or environment. But as people tend to be self-conscious in the presence of a camera, they concealed the camera in a huge shopping bag and hid their equipment in the shrubs. They built sheds with one way reflecting glass. In this film Haanstra observed the Dutch with compassion and wit and they emerged as people with a sense of sorrow and joy, religion and individualism and, above all, freedom.

Widely acclaimed abroad, The Human Dutch won a Golden Bear at the film festival in Berlin. Although its success was clearly important to Haanstra personally, it also signified the growth of a steady team. Anton van Munster was Haanstra's cameraman. Anton Koolhaas worked on the scenarios and contributed advice and constructive criticism. The writer Simon Carmiggelt provided the text and additional commentary, which he wrote while Haanstra filmed. In this way a long and fruitful collaboration developed within the group.

Thanks to Popcorn Time watched part of the TV series "True Detective"

Brilliant. Outstanding script, solid cinematography and acting. Philosophical adult plot, uniquely American.

A contemporary updated version of old-school film noir.
[No comic superheros with silly superpowers, action attempting to substitute for plot, and hyperkinetic scence cuts like a rooster on crack.]

And I'm rather biased about the location, the Louisiana back country.
