Spirit of the Season

Baby Frankenstein born on Halloween

Post by Nonc Hilaire »

Winter Park couple got an extra treat on Halloween — a baby Frankenstein.

Make that Oskar Gary Frankenstein, who made his entrance into the world four days late and after 14 hours of labor on Tuesday at Winter Park Memorial Hospital.

Parents Kyle and Jessica Frankenstein tell news outlets that Baby Frankenstein weighed in at 6 pounds (3 kilograms), 9 ounces (255 grams) and is 20 inches (50 centimeters) long.

The baby's grandmother, Jennifer Frankenstein, tells WKMG-Ch. 6 the family is “super excited.” She said Oskar is her first grandchild and the Frankenstein family's first baby born on Halloween, although she does have a 13-year-old daughter who shares the same birthday as “Frankenstein” author Mary Shelley.

Miss_Faucie_Fishtits wrote:Neil DeGrasse Tyson has a very valid point. Why do we pick Jan. 1st to celebrate a new year? I am from the future here to answer your question:

January 1st was the start of a Roman consul's terms in office on the feast of Janus [starting in 153 BC]- good fortune and all of that. More practically, it is easier to get to Rome before the worst of winter hits; it is also easier to ready to the troops instead of waiting for the last minute when the campaigning season also starts in March.

It is also the very holy day of Christ's circumcision and naming. It shouldn't go without mention that it was popular culture to describe The Feast of the Circumcision of the Lord and the Octave of the Nativity as the 1st time Christ shed his blood for mankind. And, as the Latin Church had adopted not all that long before the Gregorian calendar the celebration of this feast day around the 14th century, it must have played a role.
