The pigeon

Folks,

Today, I was sitting in a restaurant. Outside in the street there was a young girl, beautiful and immaculately dressed. She was crouching on the pavement and looking at something that I couldn't see. What was it?

I waited for the longest time and then I saw her reach out for something in the gutter and pick it up. Her manicured hands closed around a pigeon with a broken leg. It didn't struggle to escape and she lifted it up and carried it away down the road, cradling it carefully. It was an ordinary common pigeon.

It is seeing things like that which reminds us of what this world is about.

Alex.

yes, it is the most beautiful metaphor for left wing politics i could think of, thanks for sharing.

its all about the emotional response and self worth ego of that person - who in either ignorance or spite doesnt care about the fact that sickly pigeon is the number one food source for urban raptors, or whats left of them.

c'mon noddy. You are being silly!

Alex never mentioned whether the girl and the pigeon were the same color..... or the same religion..... or their voting histories..... or their income disparities..... or if the pigeon was 1/16 spotted owl......

Now if the girl walked to the nearest veterinarian and demanded that the vet kick his paying customers to the curb, to immediately treat "the people's pigeon" for free, then fill out form # 145.28.b6.z27 so he could get reimbursed by the Ministry of Mandatory Compassion......... then it would be a political anecdote. ;)

When it is a kid doing this, it is a nice indication of the kids heart.

hey, i was just matching the usual drop-a-snark and run of the OP.

i was only being partialy absurd, sick pigeons are a vital part of the ecosystem for raptors.

ive had simmilar conversations with my neices going through the teenage girl vegetarian thing - variations upon http://theconversation.com/ordering-the ... hands-4659

 You never let me down Bro!

Shame on you for introducing teenagers to reality...

Where would humans be without our cherished blind spots and rationalizations?

Saving the pigeon is starving the cats, coyotes, cannibalistic pigeons, crows, etc.

I wonder why that little girl hated cannibalistic pigeons? I know why she hated crows!

Voting for the scheme that requires robbing Peter to pay Paul only makes one feel good if one has no regard for Peter.

Back in the day people had to sprinkle breadcrumbs on the windowsill and then wait for the pigeon to show up,so they could smash the shutters on them and have squab for supper.

This technique probably doesn't work so well in Britain where they prefer beef.

My honourable ancestors did not fight their way up the food chain so as I would have to subsist on raw vegetables.

So..., if the little girl killed the pigeon, cleaned it, cooked it and then donated it to a homeless shelter to feed the hungry....,
would she be a good kid or a bad kid, a republican kid or a democratic kid.

She'd be a mama pigeon.

the republicans would lock her up for encouraging the loafers and the democrats would lock her up for breaking food safety laws.

It's a rhetorical trick that drives me nuts. I can't find it now, but I had a great pamphlet on the technique I picked up in London from a group of socialists about how to spread the message. It is all the Pete Seeger folk songs too, and he got it from the CPUSA. Haven't gotten to the root of why it is like nails on a chalkboard for me- I don't care where all the flowers have gone, what you'll do with a hammer, and you know who'll stop the rain? F'ing Zeus when he smites the lot of us! :D

I have seen a similar brochure on gun control. Very devious, in its description of how to push the emotional buttons of the lowest common denominator.

We all went off the deep end on this one based on Alex saying the kid looked nice.

for all we know, the kid was taking the pigeon how to feed to her python (named Monty?).

we all should be less trusting of strangers!

that side of the left thing is disturbing to me, i shudder at the lack of introspection required to sustain it - which of course is the argument they make against the likes of me, which is a nice irony i spose.

dirty little buggers, the old way of beating them for nothing under the basic assumption they must be up to mischief had its reasons. (hah)

"they" are, and always have been a threat to "us"........ unfortunately, there are more of "them" than "us" and time is on their side...... :(

Alex,

With so little information in the OP (no mention of the girl's or the pigeon's nationality, political leanings, race, religion, income, net worth, preferred group identity, etc.) I had little choice but to assume she was acting as an individual in accordance with her conscious belief system.

However, now that I have had more time to intellectualize & speculate upon things of which I have no knowledge, I'm pretty sure that she is a young reptilian who was taking the pigeon home to eat it. Or perhaps some kid indoctrinated in AGW who knew the pigeon exhaled CO2 & therefore a threat to mankind, but did not want to break it's neck in public for fear of ending up on youtube.

Intellectualism at its OTNOT finest. ;)

I have no idea what corriander is, was that a typo that should have been salamander? :? Pretty sure savory or unsavory is a matter of personal....... taste.

If by "suggesting" you mean "falling prey to my innermost delusions of paranoia which are aided and assisted by a lack of reality contact"..... er, um, yes indeedy! That is exactly what I am saying!

If you have a differing opinion, I'm gonna need to see some proof. Sorry Bro, but my standards for them are considerably higher than my standards for us! ;)
