Tea is nought but this: first you heat the water, then you make the tea. Then you drink it properly.

' Walls Of Kindness '
"If you need clothing, take according to your needs,
if you have clothing at home that you don't need, please hang it here,"

The man behind the initiative in Mashhad told the daily Hamshahri recently that he was inspired by similar acts of kindness in Iran and around the world.

"Be good, as God has been good to us," reads the sign on his wall.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, set up his charity wall on his own property in October, he told Hamshahri: "I saw a picture from Gilan [Province] where a place was designated for people to leave their extra clothes for whoever needed them. I also heard that in Tehran they've installed a fridge where people leave food [for the needy]."

He added that many people have welcomed the initiative.

"I saw one person hanging two sets of almost new suits [on the wall]; he had brought them from the dry cleaner," he said.

The Iranian economy has been in recession, or teetering on the brink, for several years. And while official unemployment figures are around 10 percent, the jobless rate among young people is estimated at more than 20 percent.

The Mashhad man said he's asked people on social media to keep giving: "I've told them to bring clothes in small quantities so that those who come here know that clothes are always available."

He hopes the day will come when no one will need to come to his wall for clothes, he added.

Social-networking sites and messaging applications, including the popular Telegram app, have reportedly played a key role in getting the word out about the "walls of kindness."

"A man came to me from a poor neighborhood in Mashhad -- he told me he had found the address on social media," said the Mashhad man.

Similar initiatives have reportedly been set up in other parts of the country, including in the southern city of Sirjan, where, also in October, a group of young people installed coat hooks and signs in two locations, asking people to give to the poor.

There is also a similar wall in Shiraz, according to social-media users who have shared pictures of it recently:

Nursing home workers across America are posting photos of elderly residents on social media networks,
violating their privacy, dignity and, sometimes, the law

Nursing home workers across America are posting embarrassing and dehumanizing photos of elderly residents on social media networks such as Snapchat, violating their privacy, dignity and, sometimes, the law.

ProPublica has identified 35 instances since 2012 in which workers at nursing homes and assisted-living centers have surreptitiously shared photos or videos of residents, some of whom were partially or completely naked. At least 16 cases involved Snapchat, a social media service in which photos appear for a few seconds and then disappear with no lasting record.

..

The incidents illustrate the emerging threat that social media poses to patient privacy and, at the same time, its powerful potential for capturing transgressions that previously might have gone unrecorded. Abusive treatment is not new at nursing homes. Workers have been accused of sexually assaulting residents, sedating them with antipsychotic drugs and failing to change urine-soaked bedsheets. But the posting of explicit photos is a new type of mistreatment — one that sometimes leaves its own digital trail.

In February 2014, a nursing assistant at Prestige Post-Acute and Rehab Center in Centralia, Wash., sent a co-worker a Snapchat video of a resident sitting on a bedside portable toilet with her pants below her knees while laughing and singing.

The following month, one nursing home assistant at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles, Ill., recorded another using a nylon strap to lightly slap the face of a 97-year-old woman with dementia. On the video, the woman could be heard crying out, “Don’t! Don’t!” as she was being struck. The employees laughed.

And this February at Autumn Care Center in Newark, Ohio, a nursing assistant recorded a video of residents lying in bed as they were coached to say, “I’m in love with the coco,” the lyrics of a gangster rap song (“coco” is slang for cocaine). Across a female resident’s chest was a banner that read, “Got these hoes trained.” It was shared on Snapchat.

Elder abuse is currently recognized internationally as a common problem with serious consequences for the health and wellbeing of old people. This study sought to produce an estimate of the prevalence of, and risk factors for, elder mistreatment and types of abuse in an urban Iranian population. A cross-sectional, population-based, descriptive study was conducted on 300 elderly, aged 60+ years, utilizing two health centers in Ahvaz, a province in central Iran in 2012. The participants were interviewed in their homes to collect data on risk factors and mistreatment, elder mistreatment being defined as abuse belonging to any of the four major forms: psychological, financial, physical or neglect by an immediate family member, in-laws, or relatives. Elder mistreatment was reported by 14.7% of the participants. Physical (70.4%) and neglect (61.4%) were the most common subtypes of total mistreatments. Univariate analysis showed the most consistent associations of abuse types to be with being female (OR = 2.34, CI 1.17–4.69), with education (OR = 0.36, CI 0.17–0.71), and with dependency on children for an income to live (OR = 3.18, CI 1.57–6.41). A multivariable logistic model indicated income dependency to be the only predictor of mistreatment (OR = 2.30, CI 1.10–4.81).

Our data shows abuse of the elderly to be prevalent. That income dependency is the most important predictor of mistreatment of Iranian elderly suggests that addressing their income status with preventive intervention by establishing a social security system in Iran that provides for the elderly would have significant social welfare benefits.
in country insitutiional abuse was so rampant the government shut down all their institutions and outsourced it all to private.

this was not to fix the problem, just to wash their hands of it.

my country does have a feeble carers allowance for that, however those ones are not the ones at risk because they do have children and those children care.

the horror stories are at the mercy of institutions and dont have anyone visiting them, so the predators get a free pass.

The next 10-20 years will be interesting. Upside down demographic pyramids all other the West means the state sponsored Ponzi schemes are living on borrowed time. Deficit spending is a temporary stopgap measure.

The interesting point will be when the younger generation decide not to fund the old farts thru programs that the old farts voted into existence before the young'uns, who are expected to foot the bill, were old enough to vote. Especially if the young'uns and the old farts are two different cultures, which they always are to some extent (generation gap), but maybe more different in the future due to lack of the natives reproducing their own culture.

Everyone hopes fertile immigrants will belly up to the bar and pick up the tab for promises made in the past before they arrived.
