Neoliberalism – the ideology at the root of all our problems

Post by Heracleum Persicum »

.

Financial meltdown, environmental disaster and even the rise of Donald Trump
neoliberalism has played its part in them all.
Why has the left failed to come up with an alternative ?

What the history of both Keynesianism and neoliberalism show is that it’s not enough to oppose a broken system. A coherent alternative has to be proposed. For Labour, the Democrats and the wider left, the central task should be to develop an economic Apollo programme, a conscious attempt to design a new system, tailored to the demands of the 21st century.

Agree, things broken, failing.

the leftist have plenty of alternatives and a huge amount of discussion and theories - shame its all loathesome twaddle that is of zero interest to common folk that arent in sheltered workshops, i mean university cafes.

the only problem with modernity is that we have an awfully large amount of bored people and we usually fix that with war but now our are weapons are so good we cant risk war anymore.

pestilence and plague have been letting the team down, global warming is our last great hope!

Why should arguing this constitute "pessimism" ? ? ?

You tried "Keynesianism and neoliberalism", didn't deliver, now "design a new system, tailored to the demands of the 21st century".

Now, for society, world community, nature, world security, well being, WELLNESS, other prerogatives must be dominant.

Things going to change, question only, whether controlled and constructive, or uncontrolled and destructive.

It's the only way to achieve selflessness. ;)

Or, you could be like the people I know, and just talk about it, while living like the right wing, selfish bastards they claim superiority over.

that seems to easier more popular path.
