seems their needs to be a law on commenting on each others states aswell.Simple Minded wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 11:58 amYMix,
population of Romania = 20,000,000
population of USA = 320,000,000+
take the number of tribals groups, cities, and villages in Romania and multiple that by 16.
people in Rochester NY, have very little In common with people in NYC.
When I went to college on Long Island, 75% of my class mates had no idea where Rochester NY (perhaps the third largest city in NY state at the time) was located.
inside NYC real estate prices are plummeting, 20 miles away, it's a different universe and houses are selling in hours with multiple bids.
NYC is a different planet compared to most of the country. thankfully!
Maybe there should be a Goodwin's Law for commenting on politics outside one's own nation?
NAH! That would take all the fun out of the internet!
getting all hysterical about a tweet or photo about "the others" seems to be a bi partisan activity.
their is definately somthing odious in this click/eyeballs based revenue world - from social media through to news, they have to constantly find things that upset and inflame folks to get the click throughs.
its always been a little bit that way but was balanced by wink wink nudge nudge understandings on social responsilibilty within the government approved media sources, all thats gone now.

Re: Political Levitas
well said. the hysteria, IME, is only an internet reaction. face to face human interaction seems unchanged from the good ole days. as you have noted before, trying to be "special" in a potential crowd of 7 billion, ain't easy. calls for "special extremeness!" (tm) to sell "your brand!"noddy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 8:58 am

I expect the relatively recent obsession with group indentity to only last a couple decades. as the "officially recognized" group identity continue to splinter in search of Fred being a special member of group X, the much dreaded and apparently banned "I-word" will come back into vogue.
always fascinating when one attempts to define oneself in the vaguest of term. "I am a Christian, White, Black, Male, Female, Repub, Dem, NY resident, etc.!!!" my first thought is you just spent time and effort telling your audience virtually (pun intended) nothing about yourself.
As the old joke goes:
"I'm from New Jersey!"
"Yeah, what exit?"
I recall an ad someone posted, looking for work, describing themselves as a "Christian Babysitter."
it's almost like people have some weird characteristic in common that defies definition......

[Mod note.
Everyone and anyone, everything and anything are fair game in Political Levitas and Levitas.
Only exceptions are images that fall below a rather low set bar for basic standards of decency.
Arguments are for the other threads.]
