apparently not the recipe for political competence but great for food.

Yes , excellent food and everything else.

Last time I was in Buenos Aires it felt as you are in Rome Italy, civilized population etc

Argentinians probably have the most "political competence" in all Latin America .. issue not that .. issue is economy, West (by US order) does not facilitate Argentina's economy worldwide.

To know where things stand, when Argentina repatriated Malvinas from British occupiers, US delivered military gear to Uk to beat Argentina

That is why now Brazil no more on Western team

Indeed. Everything bad that happens is the fault of the ubiquitous and omnipotent US.

No nation is in anyway responsible for its current situation due to it's own choices and actions.

The country is thought to be on track to match — and potentially even surpass — neighboring Chile as Latin America’s leading lithium producer by 2030, with investors and operators from across the globe scrambling to get involved in its burgeoning ventures.

Well, Venezuela was once one of the leading oil producing nations.

Until those reserves are being mined and processed, they are potential reserves.

As the article noted, Argentina was the fifth richest nation pre-WWII, mostly due to resource export.

Well, Argentina accepts Western money - IMF loans. Which they then repeatedly squander.

Any sand in the Argentinian economy was dug up and tossed into the works by the Argentinians themselves.

Same for the Venezuelans.

Ditto for the Brazilians.

Yours is a very common 3rd world whine; "any current problems that we have are the solely the fault of the Americans, or the British, or other Western nations, even if it's been nearly a century since they departed, none are the fault of our own decisions and actions."

Reuters | Argentina's next president Milei must tame inflation, turn around economy
Latin America is ungovernable; those who served the revolution have plowed the sea.

Good luck to Milei, he's going to need it by the tonne.

Yes. All the luck in the world plus some extra might do the trick.

Unfortunately, it will be a miracle if Milei even treads water.

The only worry in all this is Argentinia is always too little, too late, incompetency and you could do well, doing the opposite of what they do.

so the plan of moving to the US dollar is a bit of a worry, for the US dollar :)

Boris Johnson is probably the start of it.

the theory with him is that its disarming, he comes across as a bit lighter hearted and nicer , which gives him more leeway to operate under the radar , as you miscalculate his true nature.

a variation on the trick a lot of women use when they pretend to be all giggly and vague.

the over-medalled , mustiachio'd self appointed general of the universe is a silly look to the modern eye - north korea ruined it for everyone.

I think that is the marching band, and the uniforms are their instruments.

On the Front Lines of Freedom | President of Argentina, Javier Milei

Start to like him. If he pulls Argentina from the mud it would be a remarkable story and model for more troubled western nations.

Often compared with Trump as also a "rightwing populist" but here Trump found his superior. Milei not only can talk to the emotions and needs of blue collar voters with his mick jagger imitations, chainsaws etc, but also to the intellect of the upper classes and academia. Given he is an economics professor and mathematician not surprising. Trump in comparison talks low level and often clumsy.

Milei’s obeisance to Chabad is a huge red flag. As for the hair, I never thought of Boris Johnson as being a fashion leader but there it is.

I'm not very privy to the Chabad so no red flag for me yet.*
Here the question is if his economic reforms work.

*I measure any religious or philosophical doctrine with one metric only: biology. Those who stay close to their inner territorial monkey have my blessing. Mental machinations are then less important. Stand on your head all day, believe you are chosen, on a mission of type a/b/c, filling in some blanks about the nature of reality... no problemas.

Still you haven't explained why you are so paranoid about Jews. I strongly recommend wearing those Monkey Glasses that filter out all non-monkey nonsense.

I know Chabad make big claims about truth, which makes me immediately grab for my monkey truth glasses. Always very revealing, especially in high def. 8-)

All my Jewish friends are paranoid about Chabad.

The Israeli ones think it is a cult, and they resent the Chabadniks being exempt from military service but legislating that the secular and reform Jews do all the fighting.

The Brooklyn crowd just shuts up very loudly when Chabad is mentioned.

You can't hide behind your Jewish friends any longer and do the paranoia for you.

Religious orthodoxies in general have a difficult time with bare bone territorial issues. Usually jumping around between completely ignoring (if not rejecting) "wordly and materialistic values" and then discovering that the moment you need a place to live and it is under threat, territory is back at the top of any agenda.

In the Israeli case my arm chair position is that serving in the army should not be forced on anyone who objects. However, since Israel in the foreseeable futere still needs the IDF to survive... not serving in the army should also limit your ability to vote in politics.

In general I like knuckle head know it alls, especially when they sometimes make me rethink, manage to reframe things in novel ways.
