Dying Out of Sight :
Hikikomori in an Aging Japan

It's estimated over a million Japanese live as "hikikomori," recluses totally withdrawn from society.

Some hikikomori may even go for decades without leaving their house.

While in the past the phenomenon was most commonly associated with young men, recent data has revealed a much wider demographic of people whose confidence in themselves, and in society, has been shattered.

Interesting to know why all this ! !

My guess is, Japan society, culture, is a "cold" society

In Europe, in Italy, every small village has a Piazza, an open public square, usually surrounded by buildings.

The Italian piazza is the centre of public life.

You'll often find a bar or cafe and a church or town hall on the main piazza.

That is how the whole village "socialise" .. humans need this

Japan Is Now Threatening MAJOR Intervention Against The Dollar

I have been looking around a lot. Internationally the dollar has been gaining in value against most other currencies while in the US the dollar is inflating. Which seems nuts to me even though I think I understand why it is happening. Russia has stopped export oil even though it is having a hard time producing it. China is close to economic collapse(maybe a reason to invade Taiwan for comic relief. So is Germany. France wants to send troops to Ukraine as the Russians have been dismantling its pseudo colonial empire in Africa with what is left of the Wagner Group. Putin is threating to use nukes if anyone sends troops to Ukraine. Even though there are already troops from NATO countries there already. Meanwhile God protects fools and the United States of America.

I guess it is time I learned to stop worrying.

 .. we already @ 154

As now US should (supposedly) lead the "re-arming" , US needs strong Dollar to be able to buy Japan and German military goods.

Also, German (Euro) and Japan (Yen) (Capital goods) exports to China and Russia has stopped .. now German and Japan will change to making military goods and ship to US

For all this, a "strong Dollar" needed

And

US economy strong (company profits high) and can digest high interest rates .. Capital will flow to US .. that capital to invest in US must be converted to U$ Dollar

Meaning Yen could drop to 180-200 and Euro to U$ parity

In my 9 days stay in Japan, walking and mingling with Japanese, I saw very few girls and boys holding hands and any warm and affection .. nobody talks to nobody .. in coffee shops it's absolute silence, nobody looks left or right .. no such thing as "socializing"

Which Japan did you visit?

Basic manners - consideration for others. I'm sure you noticed the same on the trains and subways.

Did you stay in your hotel in the evening? You should have gone to an izakaya - Japanese pub.

You were in Japan during peak hanami - cherry blossom viewing. You didn't see people socializing and drinking in groups in the parks?

As for the population decline, the problem is not the decline itself, but the inversion of the demographic pyramid - too many old to be supported by to few young. A global phenomena outside of sub-Saharan Africa.

Twice went to Izakaya, true when a few drinks, they funny and lively, mostly the girls .. the girls much more open to foreigners than the men.

First day in Tokyo, evening, went to Shinbashi to a very authentic and very nice Izakaya .. we were the only foreigners  .. lots of young salary men and girls, mid 20s, girls were very friendly, I asked and they chose what we should eat and drink, sort of finger food, excellent cold beer .. they drank a lot, specially the girls, very nice place.

True too that "manner" central (and different) in Japan, many aspect of it, specially respect for others (one feels in any situation), I look up and liked.

As said walked all day and visited many places .. Kyoto "Nishiki market", STREET FOOD was very interesting ..

Had twice street food in Nishiki market .. Skewed eels and Skewed Wagu Beef .. they all close 8 PM.

In Kyoto, Gion, " Kiyamachi - dori " street, all cherry Trees blossoming and very cute places to eat .. tourists were mostly Italian

Kyoto is not expensive.

unfortunately I did not go to Osaka and Yokohama, Bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto stops in Yokohama and Osaka, but I thought better explore each city a few days .. next time will

For sure it is a different culture AND civilization.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. will load fuel at the idled Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant, the world’s largest, in Niigata prefecture for the first time since curbs introduced following the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi incident, as Japan continues to restart its nuclear power plant fleet.

I've purposely avoided any Apple device, so I don't have any idea.

Anyways, will look forward to seeing your photos.

If your planning to stay longer next time, suggest adding Kamakura and Nikko along with Yokohama to your Kanto region list.

In Kansai, Kyoto is know for it's history and style whereas Osaka is know for its food and humour [many comedians come from Osaka and use the local dialect known as Osaka-ben].

Although you would probably not notice this as a visitor from overseas, the people of Kyoto have a reputation for being formal and aloof whereas the people of Osaka have a reputation for being down-to-earth and fun-loving.

Also suggest spending some time at an onsen in the countryside,, one that's fed by a natural geothermal hot spring.
In Kanto, one with a view of Mt. Fuji or in Kansai, one overlooking Lake Biwa.

If you have more time, suggest also visiting Okinawa.
