Azari, your hatred of everything British is bizarre. I mean at the height of imperial power that was understandable, but nowadays, when we have virtually no influence ???

I do not hate everything British, Brits have lots I admire, so have the French and Spanish and Italian AND Germans

But

unfortunately

Brits same Brits as if Queen Victoria & Prince Albert around .. nothing has changed, only different tools and method used to the same end

Look, Torchi .. Spain a great nation, discovered North and South America (and Canada)

AND ? ?

Brits owned America (and Canada)

How come ? ?

Same mindset with "Malvinas"

Britain would not let go, still IMPERIAL mindset

NO, you guys not lost influence enough (yet), who is backing that idi*ot calling himself sultan of " 14th province of Iran " Bahrain ? ? .. Bahrain was leased to Brits by Iran for 99 yrs , AND ? ?

Britain same Britain as Queen Victoria .. nothing has changed .. only a dramatic devastating catastrophe would make Brits realize things have change fundamentally .. And .. That is the tragedy of Thatcher

Thatcher, instead of accepting fair wage and benefits for unions by throwing Queen Victoria mindset out of window, like Germans did 85 years ago with Kaiser, and guarantying German style prosperity (and not prosperity by milking Arab Oil money or being refuge for Russian Oligarch), instead, Thatcher crashed the unions and lost British industrial and manufacturing base at the same time .. that banking, financial, sector can and will disappear with one line (of law) that EU can introduce

If instead, she had pulled throw an economic revolution to rejuvenate Britain .. say, changing still imperial, tax laws .. if so, Britain would now be able to compete with Germany (historical British competitor) .. if (and when) London financial sector done, Britain is done

Torchwood wrote:.

As for whether Maggie was evil, she did not have compassionate beliefs (although apparently kind in private), but by their works shall ye judge them. She did her bit to liberate 300 million eastern Europeans from communist tyranny, and despite economic casualties and a rise in inequality the average Briton is undoubtedly more prosperous than he would otherwise have been. Yes, there was the sinking of the Belgrano - but it was war, the "Argies" started it after all diplomatic attempst had failed, the success of the UK task force was on knife edge. By getting rid of the ghastly military junta and their death squads the Falkland war undoubtedly saved more Argentinian lives than it cost in the long run, but it would have been too much to expect Argentina to be grateful...

She was not likeable, most of those who voted Conservative including me did so because they thought her policies were necessary, but would never have wanted to socialise with her. At the end of her rule she was showing undoubted megalomania, showing the wisdom of the American eight year term limit and the wisdom of her party dumping her. But to consign her to hell with Genghis Khan, Hitler and Stalin (and the Ayatollah Khomeini?) is not just unfair, it's weird.

.

Look, Trochi .. all European nations .. Germany, France, Spain and Italy and and

all of them

they have rebooted (some a few times), last 300 years

that reboot, is like forest fire .. burns the week and the fake

but come new growth rejuvenating the forest and the nation

Most London belongs to handful blue blood riding the Arab and Russian donkey and now the Spanish and french and Greek .. Tax Free

AND

Look at Liverpool or Manchester and and

Britain situation is like a cancer patient needing radical surgery which is delayed .. like Steve Jobs

The fall, though delayed, will be like Steve Jobs, terminal

AND

Torchi

a good reading of wicket Britain : Iran and Britain in Thatcher Era

We could probably agree that Blair, along with Bush, should be hauled to the Hague and tried as war criminals, however.

Like what? Wait for Stalinist economics to fail like everyone else? She did a great deal more to keep Chileans and South Africans living under tyranny than she ever did to liberate Eastern Europeans.

Thank You Very Much for your post, Ibs.

Like not let the Soviet Russian High Bears do some "soft" Finland style colonization on the Western Euroz , tribute from which would have kept the little Bears from revolting and upturning the Soviet apple cart ;)
She did a great deal more to keep Chileans and South Africans living under tyranny
Choose your poison, the relatively short Pinochet years or another long lasting Latin Cuban style Communist dictatorship under Allende who also disregarded the Chilean constitution...

Regarding South Africa, Thatcher and Reagan wanted to reform it & had a fairly reasonable fear of someone like Winnie the Fire Witch  Mandela going on a Necklacing Spree.
Her reputation was damaged by such rhetoric as that displayed in a speech she gave in Munsieville on 13 April 1986, where she endorsed the practice of necklacing (burning people alive using tyres and petrol). She said, "with our boxes of matches and our necklaces we shall liberate this country."[8] Further tarnishing her reputation were accusations by her bodyguard, Jerry Musivuzi Richardson, that she had ordered the kidnapping and murder.[3] On 29 December 1988, Richardson, who was coach of the Mandela United Football Club (MUFC), which acted as Mrs. Mandela's personal security detail, abducted 14-year-old James Seipei (also known as Stompie Moeketsi) and three other youths from the home of a Methodist minister, Rev. Paul Verryn, claiming she had the youths taken to her home because she suspected the reverend was sexually abusing them. The four were beaten to get them to admit to having had sex with the minister. Seipei was accused of being an informer, and his body later found in a field with stab wounds to the throat on 6 January 1989.[9] [10]

In 1991, she was convicted of kidnapping and being an accessory to assault in connection with the death of Seipei. Her six-year jail sentence was reduced to a fine on appeal. The final report of the South African Truth and Reconciliation commission, issued in 1998, found "Ms Winnie Madikizela Mandela politically and morally accountable for the gross violations of human rights committed by the MUFC."[11] In 1992, she was accused of ordering the murder of Dr. Abu-Baker Asvat, a family friend who had examined Seipei at Mandela's house, after Sepei had been abducted but before he had been killed.[12

Anyway, Peter Hitchens has an interesting and somewhat moving take on Thatcher:

Communism was and is a "Jewish conspiracy" .. Marx and Engel and Trotsky and and and all special agents to f*ck the GOY

AND

Neither Thatcher nor anybody else had anything to do with collapse of the communist system .. communism fell when there was no substance left to live from

In fact, I would bet the farm Thatcher and West would not only prefer but love if old "Iron curtain" would still be intact and USSR still be around

Notion, Thatcher was concerned about well-being and freedom for Rumanian or Bulgarians would be same as Churchill would be concerned about well-being of Palestinians, utter rubbish, these characters worst than beasts

Yes, there are

but

this not personal, neither with British nor with Mosche .. it's about policy, history and and

Proof of the pudding is in eating it .. Millions of Jews have lived last 2600 yrs in Persia, AND ? ? is any Synagogue or Jewish cemetery protected by Police in Iran ? ? has been any attack on Jews in Iran last so many years ? ? ? all those things happen in west

Same with Brits

Britain still in IMPERIAL mode .. what does a (small) nation like Britain needs Nuclear Submarine with Trident missiles for ? ? ? .. to protect British Imperial interests .. namely Persian Golf Arab Sheiks and Malvina and African interest and and and .. why Switzerland or Sweden or Brazil do not have nuclear sub and Trident missiles ?

Germany is king, AND, does not have nor need nuclear sub and Trident missiles

Thatcher decided to continue relying on nuclear sub and Trident missiles instead of going the German way .. Thatcher was a wicket modern age Churchill, still not letting go of Imperial Ambitions .. delaying the downfall but deepening the inevitable fall

Azari is against British Imperial policies, Ambitions

and

true

have (some) nice British friends, and many Jewish friends (they all aware of my view, often debate with them) even some in Israel

In that sense, Torchi, what you saying above is an excuse of not engaging the subject and an easy way out

Rival chants at the Liverpool v Reading football match a couple of weeks ago:

Liverpool: the archetypal depressed ex-industrial city "The Naples of the North", fans gave a stirring rendering of "Ding dong, the witch is dead"
Reading (prosperous and southern): fans riposte was to chant "We are paying your benefits"

Mark you, Liverpool won the game and Reading will be relegated from the top division next month.

This puts me in mind of Juggs' argument about foreign-held debt. The Liverpudlians could argue that those dole cheques are really a form of tribute exacted from weaker men, in the manner of Attila the Hun. ;)

Iron Lady and the Sikhs

Post by monster_gardener »

Thank You Very Much for maintaining the Forum, Admins Typhoon & YMix,

Another article about Maggie Thatcher, who Starkly ;) was Iron Woman ;) oops I mean the stainless steel Iron Lady.

I found this excerpt about the Sikhs in England interesting........
My first face-to-face encounter with Margaret Thatcher came during that blistering summer of 1976. As a 22-year-old researcher, I was allowed to attend a shadow cabinet meeting discussing immigration policy. She had recently become leader of the opposition and was still surrounded by the "giants" from the Heath cabinet, men thought to be her intellectual and social superiors. A bell announcing a vote in the House of Commons interrupted proceedings. Chris Patten, as secretary to the shadow cabinet, said it was a motion to allow any turban-bearing Sikh to be exempt from the requirement to wear a crash helmet on a motorcycle.

"I must go," she said. "I am pledged to support them." One of the giants, Lord Carrington, muttered something she didn't catch. Like a schoolboy, he was made to repeat it. "I said it was ironic that here we are devising how to keep people out of the country, while you are off to vote for the Sikhs." Silence. "It was a joke." She looked at the former defence secretary as though he were a piece of dirt. "Well, it wasn't very funny. These people fought for us in the war, Peter, fought for us in the war. Have you got it?"
And off she flounced to record her vote.

A belated response. I disagree with the article, most of the privatisations worked well. The customer service and profitability of state owned organisations like Post Office Telephones, The Gas Board, British Airways were awful, they improved massively with privatisation. The contentious one was done after Maggie left power - the railways (horrendously complicated structure, has in the end required more subsidy than British Rail to get a decent service). Also mention the one that should have happened and didn't, the Royal Mail, because it was so profitable in the 80s that the Treasury did not want to forgo the revenue stream, as a result it never adjusted to the market changes properly (falling mail, rising delivery from online shopping) and has been outcompeted by private organisations like DHL and UPS.

its all well and good to state the obvious and say that government propping up non viable industries helps those industries in the shortterm.

its much trickier to say how much the government can do so and for how long and just what exactly is going to change to make those industries viable or a better alternative to show up.

their are limits to what government can do about it and private doesnt garuntee anything either, its only advantage is if things are healthy their will be more bad attempts and more variety in approach and thusly a higher chance that one of them will work ..maybe... eventually.
