Apostasy and Blasphemy

Aljazeera | Malaysia deports Saudi wanted for Twitter row
Hamza Kashgari, wanted in his home country for tweeting remarks about Prophet Mohammad, has been extradited.
Many of Saudi Arabia's top clerics are demanding Kashgari go on trial after denouncing him as an 'apostate'
Malaysia has deported a young Saudi journalist who is wanted in his home country over Twitter posts about the Prophet Mohammad that sparked calls for his execution, the Malaysian government has confirmed.

Hamza Kashgari, who was detained in Malaysia on Thursday while en route to New Zealand through Kuala Lumpur, left the country in the custody of Saudi officials on Sunday, a statement of the Malaysian home ministry said.

Kashgari, a 23-year-old Jeddah-based newspaper columnist, fled his home country after making comments on the microblogging site deemed insulting to the Prophet Mohammed, which fuelled a surge of outrage in the kingdom.

Kashgari apologised for his comments and said he was being made a "scapegoat for a larger conflict"
Insulting the prophet is considered blasphemous in Islam and is a crime punishable by death in Saudi Arabia.

The home ministry statement said: "Malaysia has a long-standing arrangement by which individuals wanted by one country are extradited when detained by the other, and Mohammad Najeeb A. [Hamza] Kashgari will be repatriated under this arrangement.
Muhammad Afiq Mohamad Nor, a lawyer appointed by Kashgari's family, said the move was unlawful because he had obtained a court order to block the deportation.

"We are concerned that he would not face a fair trial back home and that he could face the death penalty if he is charged with apostasy, the lawyer told the Associated Press news agency.

Clerics and locals in the kingdom have called for Kashgari's death for three comments he made on Twitter on the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday.

All three tweets were later deleted by Kashgari, who received over 30,000 responses within a day of the postings.

Kashgari, who had originally apologised for his comments, said in an interview he was being made a "scapegoat for a larger conflict" over his comments.
Such insecurity.

normally, he would be beheaded

but

he could become a symbol of loosening grip of Wahhabi, probably an intentional Saudi ruling crowed political signal for reforming

Interesting to see what happens

Hope to see the Saudi oligarchy decline and fall in my lifetime.

If the US was actually serious about their so-called war on terror, then they would follow the money and block Saudi - Wahabi funding of extremist institutes across the Muslim world.

Aside from sports cars and an international assortment of courtesans, the Saudis spend their money on two things:

1. US-trained and equipped armed forces specifically designed to suppress their own population (and guest-workers in S.A.) should they attempt to rise up.

2. US Congressmen.

Sad as it is, I think they've positioned themselves to be around for quite some time, unless they start a family row that turns into a civil war.

Some details about what Kashgari tweeted:
Kashgari posted several tweets which were meant to illustrate an imaginary dialogue between him and the Prophet. In his posts, the 23-year-old journalist said that he addresses the Messenger of God as an equal, emphasising that while he admires many of his attributes, there are others which he dislikes.
This is what created such outrage with Saudi authorities and part of Islamists.

I have strong doubts that such extreme repression of thought & word is consistent with the spirit of Islam.
I am certain that it has nothing to do with adoration of God.

Indeed. However, one can still hope.

You are right. Poor guy.
Before getting all righteous, maybe they should curb their un-Islamic behavior elsewhere.

Stone referred to Iran as one of Asia's major filmmaking centers saying that he “would like to introduce Persian culture and civilization to the West.”

The 27-year-old filmmaker is a graduate of history from Princeton University . .

Oliver Stone's son converts to Islam in Iran

would recommand to those on this board badmouthing our beloved Iran to make a (tourist)
trip to Iran
.
Iranian media reported that Stone converted to Shi'ite Islam and has changed his first name to Ali.

According to the Tehran Times, Stone traveled to Iran in September to search for locations on a film he was shooting on the poet Rumi and Persian mysticism. The Times quoted Stone as saying that he needed to study Persian culture in order to get a feeling for its rituals and traditions.
.
.
Earlier this month, Stone was a participant in the Hollywoodism and Cinema conference in Tehran, where he was honored by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Sean's father Oliver ruffled feathers in July 2010 when he gave an interview to Britain's Sunday Times in which he downplayed the Holocaust, defended Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and complained about Jewish influence in the United States.

He told the newspaper that “Hitler did far more damage to the Russians than the Jewish people, 25 or 30 million.” He discussed what he called “Jewish domination of the media,” and said Israel had “f***** up United States foreign policy for years.”

changed his name to "ALI" ? ?

Seems he did say something bad.
Nothing worth killing the guy over though and for sure not worth being shipped back for it.
Let the guy go.
But I will say that it was pretty stupid of him as if he did not know what would happen.

RIYADH: A Saudi journalist awaiting interrogation over Tweets deemed insulting to Islam's Prophet Mohammed insists that he has repented, a relative told AFP Wednesday.

Hamza Kashgari "has affirmed to his family that he stands by his repentance, that he has made a mistake and regrets it," said the family member on condition of anonymity.

The 23-year-old fled to Malaysia after his comments sparked a wave of condemnations and threats against his life, but was deported back to Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Upon his return from Malaysia, Kashgari "informed his family he is in very good condition," the source said. "His family is still waiting for authorities to allow them to visit him and appoint a defense lawyer."

A Saudi lawyer told AFP on Tuesday that Kashgari "has not yet been interrogated and we hope this issue ends before it reaches the attorney general."

Saudi English-language daily Arab News reported earlier this week that Kashgari would face blasphemy charges.

On the occasion of the Muslim prophet's birthday, Kashgari tweeted: "I have loved things about you and I have hated things about you and there is a lot I don't understand about you."

"I will not pray for you."

His post sparked outrage and prompted thousands to call on a Facebook page entitled "The Saudi people demand Hamza Kashgari's execution" for him to be executed. The page already has more than 23,000 members.

Kashgari had quickly apologized for his comments, tweeting: "I have made a mistake, and I hope Allah and all those whom I have offended will forgive me."

The European Union said Monday that it was "deeply disappointed" that Malaysia deported Kashgari.

Kashgari was a columnist at the Jeddah-based Al-Bilad newspaper, which fired him after the controversy over his tweets.

Insulting the Mohammed is considered blasphemous in Islam and is a crime punishable by death in ultra-conservative Saudi Arabia.

A committee of top clerics branded Kashgari an "infidel" and demanded his trial in an Islamic court.

Others have defended Kashgari.

Prominent Saudi cleric Salman al-Odeh tweeted: "His repentance from what he said has comforted me. I feel the sincerity of his statements and call onto my brothers to pray for him."

This is the general problem with police states, be they purely despotic, ideological/socialist, or theocratic. The authorities are watching everything and if they catch you saying the wrong thing and they will react. Or massively overreact, rather.

Paris Hilton Converts to Islam

.
Speaking from an Islamic study retreat in Jeddah, she said: "I have now found total peace in my life. Before, I used to be known as an STD-ridden streetwalker , a 'hoe' and a person of loose morals, but now, things have changed. Allah be praised."

Hollywood Jihad

Ms Hilton plans to return to Los Angeles next week to start her own Islamic school in the middle of Beverly Hills.

"Forget Scientology or Kaballah. This is the religion to be in now. I'm not going to be wearing a piece of red string on my wrist or walk around like a robot talking to Xenu. Islam is the new must-have religion. and I'm going to spread the word of the Koran to everyone," an excited Paris Hilton said.

Paris Hilton also plans to change her name to 'Tahirah' which means 'Pure, chaste' in Arabic. Her Islamic school will open in July and is set to become a popular Hollywood spiritual haunt for many celebrities.

Please tell me this is a new reality show. It would be like watching "The Beverly Hillbillies" on acid.
