(ex) Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces Mehmet Ilker Basbug called on Ankara to
revise its policies and support President Bashar al-Assad's government

.

"Fighting the ISIL in Northern Syria should be pursued by the Syrian government forces," Basbug said on Monday.

He asked the Turkish government to improve and normalize relations with the Damascus government, and said, "If Turkey comes to support the central government in Syria, finding a proper solution to settle the crisis in Northern Syria will be easier."

Turkey is beginning to establish a buffer zone in Syria, which is a prelude to expansion into the already disintegrating Arab world. This was only a matter of time. By mid-century, Turkey will probably dominate most of the Sunni Arab world not only economically and politically, but even geographically.

Turkey Duped the US, and ISIS Reaps Rewards

[...]

There are signs of a growing understanding in Washington that the US was duped by the Turks, or at best its negotiators deceived themselves when they agreed their bargain with Ankara. Senior US military officers are anonymously protesting in the US media they did not know that Turkey was pretending to be going after ISIS when in practice it was planning an offensive against its 18 million-strong Kurdish minority.

Further evidence of misgivings in Washington came last week with an article in The New York Times entitled “America’s Dangerous Bargain with Turkey” by Eric S Edelman, former US ambassador to Turkey and under-secretary for defence policy, who is normally regarded as a neo-con of good standing. He accuses Mr Erdogan of unleashing “a new wave of repression aimed at Kurds in Turkey, which risks plunging the country into civil war” and he goes on to suggest that this might help the AKP win back its majority, but will certainly undermine the fight against ISIS. He says: “By disrupting logistics and communications between the PKK in Iraq and the PYD in Syria, Turkey is weakening the most effective ground force fighting the Islamic State in Syria: the Kurds.”

In fact, there is growing evidence that the Turkish government has gone even further than that in weakening US allies opposing ISIS in Syria, Arab as well as Kurd. For several years the US has been trying to build up a moderate force of Syrian rebels who are able to fight both ISIS and the Syrian government in Damascus. The CIA-run initiative has not been going well because the Syrian military opposition these days is almost entirely dominated by ISIS, which holds half Syria, the al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra, and the equally sectarian Sunni Ahrar al-Sham.

But in July, the US plan to create such a moderate force was humiliatingly knocked on the head when Jabhat al-Nusra attacked and kidnapped many of this US-trained force as they entered Syria from Turkey. It now seems certain that Nusra had been tipped off by Turkish intelligence about the movements of the US-backed unit known as “Division 30”. Turkey apparently did this because it does not want the US to have its own surrogate in Syria. According to an investigation by Mitchell Prothero of the McClatchy news organisation, citing many Syrian sources in Turkey, the Turkish motive was to destroy the US-run movement, which was intended to number 15,000 fighters targeting ISIS. Its disintegration would leave the US with no alternative but to train Turkish-sponsored rebel groups whose primary aim is to topple Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad. The article quotes a Syrian rebel commander in the Turkish city of Sanliurfa, 30 miles north of the Syrian border, as saying that the Turks “don’t want anything bad to happen to their allies – Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham – along the border, and they know that both the Americans and the Syrian people will eventually recognise that there’s no difference between groups such as Nusra, Ahrar and Daesh.”

It looks like Russia and Iran have Turkey by the balls.

It's going to be a cold winter in Constantinople.

I hope that Obama and the Kurds benefit from this.

Turkey has cancelled a $3.4 billion long-range missile defense system tender which was provisionally awarded to China, a move that had stirred US and Western concern, an official at the Turkish prime minister's office told Reuters on Sunday.

NATO member Turkey in 2013 had chosen China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corp as the preferred candidate for the deal, sparking Western worries over inherent security risks from Chinese technology. "It has been decided that this tender will be cancelled," an official at Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's office said. "This decision has been signed by the Prime Minister this week." An official from Turkey's Defense Industry Undersecretariat, which has run the technical negotiations with China, said in July that a major stumbling block has been China's reluctance to make a technology transfer which could give Turkey the knowledge to operate the system and eventually replicate it. The prime ministry official said Ankara was now planning to go solo. "Turkey will now launch its own project to build such a defense system," he said.

Turkey had given mixed messages on whether it was planning to integrate the system with NATO infrastructure or not and US and European allies has wanted Turkey to use a system that is compatible with NATO's air defense. During the tender, US firm Raytheon put in an offer with its Patriot missile defense system. Franco-Italian group Eurosam, owned by the multinational European missile maker MBDA and France's Thales, came second in the tender.

YPG reports concurrent attacks by the Turkish army and jihadist groups

YPG Press Office has released a statement providing information about the ongoing attacks of the Turkish military and jihadist gang groups.

According to the statement, ISIS gangs conducted an attack with heavy weaponry aimed at the southeastern side of Ayn Îsa town of Kobanê at 11:30 on 28 November.

Gang groups carried out two other heavy weaponry attacks from their positions near Jarablus, which targeted the surroundings of Qereqozax village to the southwest of Kobanê between 13.30-14.00 and 18.00-19.00 the same day.

On the other hand, Turkish army’s attacks that are aiming at the People’s Defense Units’ security positions near Kobanê region borderline since October 24 continue to the time.

Turkish military launched an attack with A4 heavy weaponry between 17:00 and 20:00 on 28 November, which targeted the Zeytuna position to the west of Girê Spî (Tal Abyad) town.

In the meantime, Al-Nusra and Ahrar Al-Sham gangs conducted an attack against civilians in Şêx Meqsûd (Sheikh Maqsoud) neighborhood of Aleppo on 29 November.

Germany 'draws up plans to prevent sharing intelligence' with Nato ally Turkey

Germany has reportedly drawn up plans to prevent sharing intelligence with its Nato ally Turkey as it prepares to support international air strikes against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

German Tornado aircraft are to commence reconnaissance flights over Syria and Iraq after the country’s parliament on Friday voted to deploy up to 1,200 military personnel.

Highly unusual measures have been ordered to prevent Turkey getting access to intelligence from the flights, according to Spiegel magazine.

Article by jailed Turkish journalist who reported arms shipm

Post by HAL 10000 »

The Turkish journalist is facing prison for reporting the arms shipments to Syria.
But the point is this: the journalist is not the one who leaked the information, he merely printed the leaked information.

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre ... rity-crime
EXCERPT:
Following criticism of the arrests from domestic and international press and human rights organisations, the minister of justice declared that “every country is sensitive on security” and cited Julian Assange and Edward Snowden as examples. The US ambassador to Turkey responded: “We chased after those that leaked the information, not those that published it.

HAL10000 .. fact Turkey was arming, financing, training ISIS, these beasts, that fact, soooo many evidence for that

Plan was, Saudi, Turkey and Qatar wanted to "balkanize" Syria, each had their own reason, Turks wanted to annex part of Syria (and Iraq), etc

That is well established, pretty much in all media, no need for additional evidence

Putin put an end to that pipe dream .. Turkey, Saudi and Qatar lost .. Russia and Iran won

Consequence for Turkey stupidity, Turkey (sooner than later) will lose Russian Gas and later probably Iranian gas, and gain Russian (could be also Iranian) animosity

That is why Turkey now looking for strategic alliance with Saudi and Qatar .. Turkey announced establishing a military base in Qatar (Qatar thinking American and Turkish bases in Qatar will protect against Iran .. silly).

All this "old" news

what is now interesting, Turkey, a NATO member, could not enact this major plan, without NATO not only knowledge/agreements, but NATO's active support .. probably the idea came from West/Nato, idea being to f*ck a Russian ally (Syria) at the same time cutting Iran out, and the icing on the cake was Syria neutralized re Israel.

Here we come to Western and American policy .. agreeing that Turkey Saudi Qatar creation (support and financing of) ISIS, the above would mean NATO (meaning WEST) in reality were doing what we agree Turkey and Saudi were doing, meaning creating and financing ISIS.

The mad mullahs said this from beginning .. mad mullahs said 2 yrs ago exactly what now we fining out .. all was in Iranian papers .. at that time, I posted this here but CS changed it to "Hell" and others ridiculed.

Now, let's look at Israel's position, and action in all this.

There was a "Sputnick" article 2 weeks ago (can google and find it again) saying Israel was with the party, thinking balkanization of Syria in Israel's interest, Israel was giving "some" support to ISIS.

Russia destroyed all these plans .. that is why Turkey shot down Russian plain, openly siding with Saudi & Qatar "against Iran and Russia"

Iran and Russia (and China) were the main winners

West, contrary to openly /puffing, realized (after ISIS started beheading westerners, beheading ME people was OK) Assad a better deal than ISIS.

Syria scenario changed 180 degrees .. Europe too, after Paris terrorist act and refugee fiasco .. concluded Assad a better deal

Now, pretty much, Syria in Russian and Iranian hand

File closed

Israel's defense minister Ya'alon :
ISIS has 'enjoyed Turkish money for oil' for a long time

Defense Minister Rhubarb Ya'alon said on Tuesday that Islamic State militants had been funded with "Turkish money," ..

..

Ya'alon said that Turkey had, up to this point, not taken part in the war on terror. "Daesh [ISIS] has enjoyed Turkish money through Turkish oil purchases from them for a very long time. I hope it will stop," Ya'alon accused.

He also accused Turkey of allowing jihadists to move from Europe to Syria and Iraq, and back, where they have become part of the terror infrastructure in Europe.

.

Basically, Turkey, finances, trains, arms ISIS

Well, folks , can Turkey do this without NATO approval ?

Hardly

Turkey warns Russia over Ankara attack

.

Mr Davutoglu focused some of his toughest comments on Moscow.

“I am warning Russia once more,” he said in a televised statement, saying that Moscow’s condemnation of the attack was insufficient. “If these terror attacks continue, they will be as responsible as the YPG.”

Russia denies any connection with terrorist activities.

.

Turkey fell into Western trap

First, West fooled Ukraine, promising this and that, result was disaster for Ukraine

At the same time, Turkey was fooled to counter our beloved Persia, pretty much similar to that "Idi*t" Saddam Hussein was fed fake intelligence by West to attack Iran.

Turkey and all those Sheikhs and Amirs and Kings will be history in a few yrs.

The Kurds are determined to obtain attain autonomy and even secede.

The only way Turkey can survive the demographics is by forming a new pure-Turkic Central Asian empire by linking up with the pro-Turkish regions in the former Soviet Union. This is what Putin fears most.

Turkey Joining the Union

Post by Alexis »

"Turkey will be critical to any US or NATO effort to shape Russia’s behavior in the Middle East and it should be put on the path to joining the European Union"

Thus spake The Honourable US Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA)

I agree with The Honourable Rep, with a slight modification. Since this gentleman is representative to the US parliament, it is joining the United States that Turkey should be put on a path to, as an - assuredly most welcome - 51st State.

That has to be what The Honourable Rep meant. I cannot imagine that he forgot he had no place talking for Europeans, but only for Americans.

... and then, only as long as our friends on the other side of the Atlantics give him their voices. But that's for them to decide, obviously
