I looked for American and Western European leaders on the Panama disclosure and found them strangely absent, except for the Icelandic PM who is not exactly a western banker's favorite son.
Maybe they're not using Panama. Plenty of other tax havens out there.Nonc Hilaire wrote:I looked for American and Western European leaders on the Panama disclosure and found them strangely absent, except for the Icelandic PM who is not exactly a western banker's favorite son.

“I don’t expect this to lead to one single legal case,” Mr Fonseca told the Financial Times by telephone from Panama.

“I guarantee there is more dirty money in New York and London and Miami than in Panama,” he said.

"Real" Wealthy people .. Bill Gates, Carlos Slim, Amancio Ortega .. people like them, they became rich by building a business empire, industrialist or technology .. these people became rich by investing.
Experience shows, those who hide their money in so called Tax heaven, hide from Tax man, are the losers .. reason is, those hidden money is "dead money", and can not be productive.
Worldwide, Tax Laws, reward production and entrepreneurship .. Tax laws include many write off opportunities etc etc.
As accountant said, never think about TAX, thinks about making money .. very true .. had to learn this the hard way.
Only idi*ts and thieves hide their money.

Not so sure about that...........those who hide their money in so called Tax heaven, hide from Tax man, are the losers ..
And always will be. The rich and powerful have been evading taxes as long as there have been the rich and powerful, particularly the left wing variety.YMix wrote:Maybe they're not using Panama. Home sweet home? Putin offering disillusioned Britons FREE LAND to resettle in Russia
LAND in Russia’s eastern wilderness is being offered to disillusioned British people for free - as long as they can survive the frigid cold and barren Siberian landscape for five years.
The sprawling plots, which are 2.5 acres in size, are located in an enormous region stretching from the Arctic Circle to the Chinese border, where winter temperatures can drop to a chilling -47 degrees celsius and population density currently stands at three people per square kilometre.
But its not all bad news for adventurous house-hunters. The far east of Russia is famed for its stunning natural beauty, with hundreds of miles of rolling hills, grass plains and soaring mountain ranges. Known as the land where ice meets fire, settlers can look forward to hiking the snow-covered slopes of active volcanos or relaxing in hot springs.
Summers are also long and comfortably warm, with 25 degree temperatures providing the perfect climate in which to explore the region’s dramatic landscapes.

Putin has personally congratulated the new World Hockey champions on their title.
Flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine by a Buk missile brought across the border from Russia and fired from a village under the control of pro-Russian rebels, an international criminal investigation has said.
In a press conference on Wednesday in Nieuwegein, in the Netherlands, the Dutch-led Joint Investigation Team (JIT) said there was conclusive evidence that a Buk 9M38 missile hit the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, killing all 298 people on board.

Question 1. [...] How then can the BUK which the JIT has now pinpointed in a field at the village of Pervomayskiy, near the small town of Snizhne, have aimed east to west, head-on towards the MH17, and fired with the intention of bringing down the approaching aircraft? Why that target, and not the other two targets, also civil aircraft flying above 10,000 metres within a few minutes of each other and within firing range? Why target an aircraft flying so high, at a constant, level altitude? What evidence is there in the JIT presentation that the BUK and about one hundred men the Dutch claim to have been involved knew what they were aiming at and intended the result which occurred? A Russian military source asks: “did the BUK operators know where to direct their radar antenna? A 120-degree angle is not very large for target interception.”
Question 2. For the BUK missile the JIT claims to have been fired from a position to the east of the aircraft, the missile must have been visible to the pilots in the cockpit as it approached the cockpit window in clear sky. How then can the JIT explain the lack of a record from the cockpit’s voice recorder (CVR) that the pilots saw anything? Between the last pilot voice contact with Dniepropetrovsk Air Traffic Control, and the destruction of the aircraft, there were four seconds on the CVR tape.
