Did Trump have clear authority under international law to attack Syria ?

No.

The United Nations Charter, a treaty the United States has ratified, recognizes two justifications for using force on another country’s soil without its consent : the permission of the Security Council or a self-defense claim.

In the case of Syria, the United Nations did not approve the strike, and the Defense Department justified it as “intended to deter the regime from using chemical weapons again,” which is not self-defense.

Don't know what's going on .. but, this has the potential for another disaster for our beloved U.S. of A.

Trump already said he wants to escalate .. that will pull US deeper into Syria quicksand.

My guess, Saudi and Jordanians visiting Trump told him they losing everywhere and US has to do something.

Suddenly, Trump who was saying Assad not so bad guy, starts swingin .. could be a trap for Trump .. comet push to shove, either he has to escalate or retreat .. Generals will fool him to escalate and he step into the "bear-trap"

Syria will not be as easy to get out as Iraq was .. Syria much more strategic .. a US defeat would brake the camel's back.

Putin knows this .. he might act undecided, act weak to pull US in .. once US deeply in Syria, there is no escape .. this ain't Iraq.

mad mullahs just watching, they busy

Ron Paul on Syria gas attack:

'It doesn't make sense. Zero chance Assad did this.'

But we’ve seen this movie before
There are other possibilities, including a hit on a rebel storage facility containing chemical weapons or even an al-Qaeda action designed to unleash precisely the Western outrage directed at Assad that has materialized. As investigative journalist Robert Parry has asked, since Assad has gained a decisive upper hand in the civil war, why would he risk stirring up a Western military response with such an action?

Curiosities:

Why the valueless target?

Why so little damage?

Why so many missiles?

Where did the other 30 or so missiles go? Or were that many really launched?

The show of strength hypothesis seems doubtful.

Putin to Netanyahu:
Unacceptable to Make 'Groundless Accusations' on Syria Chemical Attack

The Kremlin said in a statement that Putin "highlighted that it was unacceptable to make groundless accusations against anyone without conducting a detailed and unbiased investigation."

According to the Prime Minister's Office, it was Netanyahu who initiated the phone call in order to convey his condolences over the St. Petersburg attack.

Folks ..

- 58 cruise missiles, hitting not much, would have achieved not much .. those cruise missiles are very accurate, not hitting much"intentional"

- Russia was informed .. and .. Russia S-400 could but did not shoot down anything.

- At the same minute, Trump and Chinese president having dinner in Florida

- Carrier group on the way to North Korean shores

MY suspicion is, "America, China, Russia" all 3 in this to scare North Korea

Now, Chinese will tell to North Koreans Trump really means business etc etc .. US on it's own can not do much to North Korea, but, combined with China things different.

2B seen how North Korea reacts

My reading from this is, Trumps Syria episode in reality Trump North Korea Play .

All these conspiracy theories are of course nonsense but I think it might be worthwhile to push the narrative that maybe Russia is helping Trump on this one. Anything that damages Trump is okay in my book -- just taking pages from his playbook and using them against him. Looks like conservatives might actually be susceptible to falling for this one.

But the reality is that this chemical attack happened and there are plenty of reasons why the regime would have risked doing so, if only to test boundaries in advance of larger chemical strikes in the future. Remember who we're dealing with here. The Assad regime's "successful" COIN playbook is the Hama massacre. That's the mentality we're dealing with here. Ron Paul and the Dilbert guy are both crack pots.

Kim Jong-un orders 600,000 out of Pyongyang
Apr 12,2017
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently ordered the deportation of nearly 600,000 Pyongyang residents to the suburbs, a local source told the JoongAng Ilbo Monday.

The deportation represents one-fourth of Pyongyang’s current population of 2.6 million. It is not known when they will be forced to move or to where.

“Population control was the pretext of the latest order,” said the source, who asked for anonymity, “but in reality, the purpose is to ‘purify’ the North Korean capital and allow only the loyal elite class to live there.”

In 2007, Putin informed the Western world that Russia will develop a secret weapon to counter US advances.

This was said in response to the US missile defense system that was being developed at the time (previously prohibited in international law.) Russia’s counter-measure weapon is now almost complete.

With the NATO missile defense system on Russia’s doorstep – the threat to international security is very real; not that you would know it via mainstream Murdoch media.

This a very dangerous situation now .. West, America, Brits and Europe think they have a system making them not vulnerable anymore to Russia (nuclear) weapons, therefore they can push Russia to the wall.

Russia says Russia has the weapon to counter West.

American Generals, American war mongers, neocons, could think Russia bluffing and keep pushing Russia.

Comet a time, BANG .. Russia would make a move that could not be misunderstood

That's the problem with those augmented reality glasses, the only lens choices are rose and shite. If you want clear, your'e either outa luck, or ya just gotta take them off.

Most prefer the rose lens when looking at us, and the shite lens when looking at them. In related news, we're all gonna die..... and it's all going according to God's plan...

Making the effort to build advanced highly destructive weaponry seems outdated, overly expensive, and inefficient compared to just planting seeds of discontent on the internet, in the MSM, and social media.

Give them enough doomer porn bits, sites, and prophets, and eventually, the locals will choose mass suicide.

Whoa! Value added! All augmented reality glasses should come with a free Running Man accessory collar.

looking at the takeup of personal tracking devices (phones) and bugging devices for the home (smart home gadgets) i suspect people will queue up for their exploding collars.

just need to spin it as a useful tool against terrorism/criminal gangs, letting the police take out the bad guys easily without risk to the general public, a way of minimizing the use of firearms that kill innocents.

“There is only one nation that wins the more we bomb Syria – and it is clearly not the Syrian opposition or the innocent people who are dying there. And that is China,” explained a senior State Department official.”

..

“The only way to ‘solve’ Syria is to march 200,000 troops into Damascus, throw Assad out, and try and rebuild the country. Keep in mind, in Iraq, there was no Russia. We need to think carefully – that plan did not work well in 2003, and it won’t work now.”

..

With President Trump recently declaring that “we’re not going to Syria”, there is at least some room for optimism that America won’t make a bad situation worse – albeit he seems to have forgotten an inconvenient fact: Washington already has troops there.

Danger is, not Trump but Putin and Ahmadinejat decide whether “we’re not going to Syria” .. there could be a trap sucking US into Syria and
"chess-mate" Trump. Putin decides.
