Category 1. Not so strong, but apparently the concern is size and storm surge.

A building in Chelsea lost its facade.

I am fine. I live in a little valley that is kind of high relative to the rest of Manhattan. The wind is raging down broadway but barely blowing right out in front of my apartment. Very little rain is falling because the wind is blowing it sideways so it doesn't actually fall down on my street.

Me too. If I didn't have kids I would probably be the durian running around in it.

Some of those pics look downright Biblical.

All those wealthy capitalists on the eastern seaboard treating the poor badly. I know.

The video of the powerplant exploding is pretty insane.

They always get out first and have the nicest temporary accommodations.

A bit of history. An especially destructive hurricane that struck the eastern US was Hazel in 1954.

A sail area that size is sufficient to drive a 12 metre 8 tonne yacht to max hull speed in 145 kph [90 mph] winds.

What was he thinking?

Glad to hear you are safe Enki, I am w/o power here everything else for me is fine- though I heard a few sts. Over some house burnt down. Can't wait to see how things are outside. My worry is no power for days- one of my roommates goes crazy if the tv is off at any minute. He may kill us all if this doesn't get fixed!

I'm wishing Tinker, his family, and the people on the east coast well. Those pictures do look Biblical. Growing up near Lake Ontario has always made me very leary of the power of large bodies of water and storms. Mama Nature has unlimited power at her command.

Ditto on loving running around in storms. It stimulates a very primal emotional sense of surviving/conquoring nature. Hunting and eating your prey is much the same.

One of the good things that usually comes out of these trials is people put their pettiness aside for a while and function as communities to restore normal.... lots of time for pettiness later.

Meanwhile, back to pettiness:

I call dibs on later claims that Obama and Biden dynamited the levies in NYC..... casue they don't like Wall Street... ;)

Or was it HermanCaine.......?

Indeed, for electing a Mooslim Communist alien

(runs fast from deep red to deep blue corner)

The wages of secular sin, clearly due to MMGW

(ducks for cover before Rising Sun missile arrives from an aptly named Typhoon)
