Tea is nought but this: first you heat the water, then you make the tea. Then you drink it properly.

Hope your trip goes well.

I've no info for Japan. I don't know if I'd ever been interested in a 15 hour+ flight from the east coast. And splitting the journey up a bit works better on paper than in real life for me. The post 9/11 airport experience (at least in the US) is not fun or convenient.

I assume you'll be landing at Haneda airport.

Here's a list of places where you can buy SIM cards and rent WiFi

https://tokyo-haneda.com/en/service/fac ... ental.html

Select the terminal at which you'll be arriving.

The Softbank “501HW” WiFi device seems like a reasonable choice.

A very close Dutch friend of mine, very knowledgable conservative, he and wife went to Iran, and fell in love with

Another friend, French lady Jewish Ashkenazim gynaecologist in Paris went to Iran for 2 weeks trip (for medical symposium) .. fell in love with people and country

Iran is the safest country for western tourist in all ME .. extremely friendly AND good value

Iran is the place that many civilizations crossed and were absorbed, Greek, Moguls, Turks , Russians AND west .. you will see zoroastrian, Sassanid, Achaemenid Empire, Mogul empire, Turkic tribe empire, Islamic, Jewish, Christian civilizations all at one place.

All "religions" we understand of. are BORN in Persia, all. ..

Simple Iranians are very up to date about world affaires, know West quite well.

Pretty much everybody understands and sort of speaks english .. absolutely free to say and debate whatever you want.

Should be your first choice ..

As you'll be spending 6 days in Tokyo, suggest day side trips to Yokohama - Sankeien Koen [Garden], Chinatown, and Minto Mirai - and Kamakura.

When you're in Kyoto, suggest a day side trip to Nara.

If one wants to "mingle" with ordinary Japanese, go to where they eat, drink and have fun, how is to visit Shinbashi ?

Well, "real Japan" may mean very different things to different people.

For some it's "historical Japan", for others it's anime and cosplay.

Anyways, every part of Tokyo is "real" to someone.

Being a Kansai-jin, Kanto-Tokyo is my region of real expertise, however.

For contrast, Kabukicho - Shinjuki and Nishi [West] Shinjuku are worth visiting.

Nishi-Shinjuku during the day, and Kabukicho only at night.

A stroll through Golden-Gai in the evening.

Shinjuku

A walk from Omote sando station along Omotesando - dori [street] towards Yoyogi park [1964 Olympics buildings designed by Tadao Ando] and a visit to the Meiji Jingu shrine with a side trip to nearby Harajuku.

Harajuki

For some, Ginza is the "real Japan.

https://tokyocheapo.com/locations/centr ... nza/]Ginza

A bit late, but an overnight trip to a onsen [natural hot spring spa] in Hakone is popular with the locals.

[The person who looks after you and your room at an onsen, the nakai-san, is the only person in Japan
one tips. Remember to wash up before entering the hot spring.]

Hakone.

A bit past Yokohama from Tokyo, so perhaps you could combine the two.

If you're interested in seafood, the

Toyosu Market

which replaced the famous Tsukiji Fish Market.

Anyways, the site you linked is quite extensive, suggest you go through the locations and pick what may be of interest to you.

Survived the Great Quake of 2024. :)

What, no, not the serious ones in the Pacific. The tiny little one which freaked out the media because it happened to them right in Manhattan.

Felt throughout the northeast; the aftershock we felt seemed to last longer than the initial earthquake.

Glad to learn that you survived ;)

For comparison, the Taiwan earthquake was about 316 times more powerful than the one that rattled the chattering classes in New York.
