Hordes of bankrupt French invade Switzerland to get their hands on their “stolen” money — such is the imaginary scenario cooked up by the Swiss military in simulations revealed over the weekend.

France wins and loses plenty of wars, but France stays more or less the same size in the long run. After I read up on the battle of Verdun I was pretty much over the whole "French are cowards" gag that we all grow up with in the English-speaking world.noddy wrote:im sure you can find whatever you like across the history of france.

On the other hand France is nowhere near as great as a Frenchman will tell you it is. The French and Americans have this in common, they should be better friends.

Nah, the assertion is France never fights back in any of our lifetimes, we have to deal with reality and not abstractions, like France from centuries in the past. All those people are dead ymix.YMix wrote:Ah, so you back your silly assertion that France never fights back with a reference to present day gay marriage.Mr. Perfect wrote:I don't think soldiers from over 100 years ago are going to show up and fight ymix. The GM thing was for fun. I chuckled with the picture and thought everyone would enjoy the redneck. Rednecks get a lot of mileage around here, you guys really seem to hate them, so I thought you'd enjoy it. If you want me to look up other pictures of very wimpy French men without any homosexual overtones I can certainly do that, it won't be a challenge. It was just one of the first one that popped. Either way as far as I'm concerned.
Vive La France! I think ymix you have done more to defend France in this thread than they have done to defend themselves in nearly a century. I wonder if they will be grateful to you.

When you say never, it kinda includes those people. But I guess it's just your manner of speaking. Just as you like to say that the USA has done most for the cause of freedom ever, but it's not really ever.Mr. Perfect wrote:Nah, the assertion is France never fights back in any of our lifetimes, we have to deal with reality and not abstractions, like France from centuries in the past. Apparently, you're dealing with whatever suits you. No consistency required. That's good to know.Realpolitic doesn't need to rely on dictionary definitions, rather perceptions, insinuation and guesses

And yet the wimpiness of living Frenchmen remains uncontested. No one here even contested it, put a scratch on it. Not even ibs will take it up. If that was my position and the position remains untouched and that equals a loss then, I concede defeat to you personally ymix.

Re: The new global axis of power
It isn't even necessary to make this argument historically. The French military are active peacekeepers in Africa, aside from the most recent defense of souther Mali against Saharan extremist groups and the Libyan intervention they made several interventions in the Congo (most recently 2006 IIRC). Short and mostly effective.YMix wrote:When you say never, it kinda includes those people.
Plus if living memory they have to cases of playing the bad guys, both in Vietnam and in Algeria, where they fought tenaciously (indeed, criminally) even though they were on the losing side. Again just like the Americans. These countries should be friends, I'm telling you.

It's nice to see you squirming, moving from Russian encroachment to French military history rather than acknowledging that you can't defend your OP and dealing in both vague impressions and facts as it suits you.

The OP defends itself and an Obama era military publication lauding the French isn't surprising but expected as yet another French involved defeat plays out before our eyes.
If you want to say that Russia is on the decline while America is ascendant and the world fears the French then truly you have a dizzying intellect and I will run up the white flag ymix. Who can argue with that. Well actually ibs will argue with that, he's been saying Obama got b!tcshlapped, but I could never argue with that. You win I lose.
Edit: Also Berzer will argue with you, he thinks Obama got b!tslapped as well, but personally I see now that I can't argue those points to you, clearly Putin embarrassed himself on the world stage and the French are feared in every corner of the earth.

You seem tremendously interested in everything I say ymix, you more than anyone else, although admittedly there is heavy competition. And now I see the power of what you have to say. Putin embarrassed himself on the world stage and France is feared the world over. I was wrong and I'm man enough to admit it.
