I heard the Volvo has come up with a new car feature that if it decides you are driving drunk will pull over to the side of the road and call the police on you. It determines if you are drunk by the way you hold the steering wheel. Maybe they could make a sensor that could tell if you have guns in the car...

Talked to an outstanding mechanic friend of mine who teaches auto techs how to super expensive top-of-line diagnostic equipment.

The regimen required to go thru to set up and calibrate those systems in pretty extensive. Rocket scientist may soon be needed to keep these vehicles functioning safely.

should drive up the price of used Mad Max vehicles considerably.

funnily enough, only westerners are passive slaves enough to get away with this sort of thing.

American John Deere tractors are locked out from customer repair, so must be taken for the full official service, with huge costs.

Ukrainian John Deere tractors have different firmware, so the farmer is still allowed to fix their tractor.

Fascinating, I had no idea, but it does explain why when looking at used tractors/construction equipment, the sellers are quick to point out if the equipment is a "pre-emissions controls" vehicle.

Great opportunity for the free market types to create replacement hardware/software and cut the OEM out of the repair loop. Already fairly common with some motorcycles and trucks/autos.

Just like "cash-for-clunkers" more controls mentality driving up the price of used vehicles and rewarding big businesses for the "common good" or maybe donations to political incumbents is still alive and well in the Trump era. Then again, making it harder for farmers to work on their tractors is a small price to pay for saving the Earth from climate change.

OR saving 1%ers from the people with the pitch forks because they are making huge profits to save the planet. So of course they deserve to be 1%ers
