Next month, the all important question can be answered, or at least started to be answered. Nine months after the 2016 POTUS election, will the birth rate rise or fall due to increased optimism or increased pessimism?

In some ways, the more things change the more they stay the same.
A friend of mine attended the U of Wisc Ann Arbor during the 1960's.
He once recalled the Students for a Democratic Society whom my friend noted were strongly in favour of free speech . . .
as long as it agreed with their views.
He also mentioned that the US ROTC was compulsory during his time.
He was tasked with "stopping a tank" during training games so he had his squad dig a large deep pit and camouflage it.
The tank came roaring up, toppled into the pit, and ended up immobilized with a bent main gun.
My friend achieved his two objectives: stopping the tank and getting kicked out of the ROTC.
In some ways, the more things change the more they stay the same.
