Somewhere he proposes that the electromagnetic field is not quantized, only the energy transfer between field and mass.
Well, he's not even wrong. Also, I assume he means "between field and matter particles".

Unless he has an alternate theory to QED, expressed in mathematics, that explains everything quantitatively from the black body radiation [Planck] to the photoelectric effect [Einstein] to the Lamb shift [Lamb, Retherford, and Bethe] to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of the electron [Feynman, Schwinger, Stueckelberg, Tomonaga, and Dyson] and the Casimir effect due to vacuum polarization [Casimir]. All of which are explained by the quantization of the EM field [Dirac], i.e., photons.

The dream of wireless power transmission goes back to at least Tesla [Nikolai, not the namesake car].

The last time solar power arrays in space were promoted was back in the 1970's when many pundits were convinced that the planet would run out of oil in the 1980's.

Solar cells are about 30% efficient at best. Also they degrade rapidly over time. More so in the harsh vacuum - intense sunlight of space.

Ignoring the massive logistics issues, the key number is the conversion -> transmission -> conversion efficiency.

A link to a scientific publication, rather than a dumbed-down puff-piece from Bloomberg would be better, and more interesting.

arXiv | A Lightweight Space-based Solar Power Generation and Transmission Satellite
Abstract

We propose a novel design for a lightweight, high-performance space-based solar power array combined with power beaming capability for operation in geosynchronous orbit and transmission of power to Earth. We use a modular configuration of small, repeatable unit cells, called tiles, that each individually perform power collection, conversion, and transmission. Sunlight is collected via lightweight parabolic concentrators and converted to DC electric power with high efficiency III-V photovoltaics. Several CMOS integrated circuits within each tile generates and controls the phase of multiple independently-controlled microwave sources using the DC power. These sources are coupled to multiple radiating antennas which act as elements of a large phased array to beam the RF power to Earth. The power is sent to Earth at a frequency chosen in the range of 1-10 GHz and collected with ground-based rectennas at a local intensity no larger than ambient sunlight. We achieve significantly reduced mass compared to previous designs by taking advantage of solar concentration, current CMOS integrated circuit technology, and ultralight structural elements. Of note, the resulting satellite has no movable parts once it is fully deployed and all beam steering is done electronically. Our design is safe, scalable, and able to be deployed and tested with progressively larger configurations starting with a single unit cell that could fit on a cube satellite. The design reported on here has an areal mass density of 160 g/m2 and an end-to-end efficiency of 7-14%. We believe this is a significant step forward to the realization of space-based solar power, a concept once of science fiction.

It's numbers, not nationalities or patents that matter [most patents expire worthless].
With an estimated transmission efficiency of only 7 to 14%, I doubt that large scale implementation is economical, i.e., not worth the effort.

On the other hand, delivering power over much smaller distances, for example, charging EVs on the go, might make sense.

Its always either

Quite.

By comparison, terrestrial power plant [coal, gas, nuclear] have an efficiency of about 33% with up to 45% for nuclear.

Terrestrial high voltage power grids are incredibly efficient with efficiencies between 94 to 96%.

Also the energy density of coal, gas, and nuclear are much higher than that of sunlight.

last time i checked the sun was already free and made it to the earth just fine.

so, the mundane question is if putting and maintaining a complex array of lossy sattelite grids is cheaper and easier than batteries or terrestrial grid transmission.

i suspect the answer is obvious.

There was a similar massive project to transmit electric power from solar panels in some Arab state in the ME via high voltage underwater cables to Europe.
Was not built.

Wonder if this Aussie - Singapore project will actually be built.

___

Returning to the previous topic.

A major problem in earth-orbit inspace is, unlike terrestrial solar panels, damage and loss of efficiency due to radiation and micrometeorites.

The economic feasibility seems dubious at best, but as always the devil's in the details.

Sorry there is no now

IE If there is no instantaneous now, how can there be a "same time"?

It also explains one liner jokes . As the abstract human "now" is milli seconds in the past and lasts for up to 3 seconds.

Hence "Now" is the abstract impression of the future past and always will be.
