The rise of Donald Trump has exposed the frightening underbelly of America's foulest tendencies. Our racism, nativism, xenophobia, misogyny, Islamophobia, ableism, and propensity toward authoritarianism have been laid bare. Reactions from those who stand opposed to these manifestations of oppression have varied from calm condemnation and routine peaceful protests, to blockades of roads and borderline riotous outbursts, including sporadic violence in various cities.

This isn't a coincidence.

You can definitely blame Democrat rhetoric.

This guy thought he was going to go down as a hero after the NYT did the story on the congressional baseball practice he moved the van he was sleeping in to a couple of block away. Oliver Stone. What a disgrace to this country. This spectacle is like the now-infamous Vogue article on Asma al-Assad. A complete picture of Putin requires also peering through the smashed lenses of the brave journalists and dissenters, many of whom have died in the line of duty trying to bring the facts to light. Instead, we now have an English translation of the sort of fawning state propaganda that Russians have been fed for years.

I can't wait for a documentary on the real Kim Jong-Un! Maybe Rodman can host it.

Oliver Stone is a very interesting guy who gravitates to something we just don't see much of anymore, a type of macho leftism.

I haven't seen what he's filmed but I'm not surprised to hear that Stone and Putin "bro'd" out together.

What would be surprising is if Stone didn't have some criticism of his subject. I'm betting he approached it like he did JFK, Nixon and W. as a portray of his own sociological and psychological vision beyond contemporary politics.

It's when he's being overtly political like in Born on the Fourth of July or Snowden that his cynical macho hippie persona becomes totally smug and insufferable.

That he didn't treat Putin as that sort of prop actually makes me interested to see what came out of this whole thing.
