The Guardian
Trump sought strike on top Iran military figure for political reasons

Shortly before the 2020 election, Donald Trump’s national security adviser, Robert O’Brien, “stunned” the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff by saying the president wanted to kill a senior Iranian military officer operating outside the Islamic Republic.

“This was a really bad idea with very big consequences,” Mark Esper, Trump’s second and last secretary of defense, writes in his new memoir, adding that Gen Mark Milley suspected O’Brien saw the strike purely in terms of Trump’s political interests.

..

Trump made belligerence towards Tehran an important part of his administration and platform for re-election, pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal and regularly warning in bombastic terms of the cost of conflict with the US.

He also ordered a drone strike on a top Iranian general blamed for attacks on US targets. In January 2020, Qassem Suleimani, the head of the elite Quds force, was killed in Baghdad.

At a meeting in July 2020, Esper writes, O’Brien pushed for military action against Iran over its uranium enrichment – work that accelerated after Trump pulled out of the nuclear deal.

Greetings from China (from a Chinese friend)

China demanded that the United States stop talking about 'protecting human rights in Southeast Asian countries' until the Americans remove all their unexploded bombs from the region.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian cited the following facts:

●During the Vietnam War, the United States used cluster bombs and biochemical weapons & committed heinous crimes in Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia.
●15 million tons of bombs, mines & shells were fired in Vietnam, of which about 80 thousand tons didn't explode.
●These unexploded ordnance subsequently killed more than 40,000 people & injured more than 60,000 - i.e. 1,000 people per year die.
●At the current rate of disposal, these explosives will be defused in 300 years.
●The US sprayed about 2 million gallons of agent Orange in Vietnam, which infected almost 5 million Vietnamese & killed 400,000 people. About 2 million people have contracted cancer or other diseases.
●In Laos, American troops dropped 270 million bombs with a total weight of two million tons, i. e. 135 bombs for every person in the country.
●About 80 million bombs didn't explode. After the war, more than 200,000 people died because of this.
●2.7 million tons of ammunition were dropped on Cambodia.
●Unexploded bombs & mines killed more than 20,000 people & maimed 45,000 by 2021.

Asian countries have a deep historical memory & can distinguish right from wrong.

Asia "will never allow the region to be used as a chessboard" for conflicts of major powers.

Comedy at its best:

●US aid to Ukraine to fight the Russian: USD40 billion.
●US aid to Asean for Covid, free navigation & climate change: USD150 million.

China
vanguard of anti-West crusade

Long interesting article

More and more the United States views Russia’s war on Ukraine as a pivotal episode in a global contest that pits Washington not only against Moscow but against a group of active adversaries – with China at the group’s core.

The two top intelligence agency heads – civilian and military – put China atop a list of four countries they viewed as effectively joined in an anti-Western crusade. China was followed by Russia, Iran and North Korea.

“All four governments have demonstrated the capacity and intend to promote their interests … that cut against US and allied interests,” Avril Haines, who oversees US intelligence agencies in President Joe Biden’s administration, said.

Iran, the region formerly known as Persia, became a footnote in history after the Battle of Thermopylae and the defeat of the second attempted invasion of Greece.

Seems not quite a "footnote"

He talking about US policy towards Iran .. I think it belongs in this thread as this a general trend of American foreign policy that America does not care about what America did to other nations .. this now evident in America confronting Russia who saved the world from Hitler with 28 m Russian life sacrificed and China that did nothing to America

Haaretz
Biden in Israel
'Iran Will Never Get Nuclear Weapons'

National Review
Iranian Official Says Tehran
‘Capable of Building Nuclear Bomb’

Iran has the capability to make a nuclear bomb but has not decided whether to build one ..

“In a few days we were able to enrich uranium up to 60 percent and we can easily produce 90 percent enriched uranium. . . . Iran has the technical means to produce a nuclear bomb but there has been no decision by Iran to build one,” said Kamal Kharrazi, a senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The adviser told Al Jazeera‘s Arabic service on Sunday that Iran will directly respond against Israel if its security is targeted.

Gloves are off

Iran will hit "inside Israel" if any action directed against Iranian interest .. mad mullahs have convey this message to Israel by American officials.

The president said preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is “a vital security interest for Israel and the United States and, I would add, for the rest of the world as well.”
In response mad mullahs saying any moment they can built a nuke if and when they want ..

Well, time to put up or shut up
