"Grammar Nazi" is in common N Am English usage now, although I'm not sure when use of the term first became widespread.
I find it a bit annoying given the penchant of some to call anyone with whom they disagree a 'Nazi' while at the same time ignorant of history.

I would argue that the Finnish term for a pendant that insists on correcting other people's grammar, without regard for offending,

'pilkunnussija', literally 'comma f*cker', is far more colourful and descriptive.

Hence the topic. Any new baseball slang? I expect the football term 'butt fumble' to take off.

I think Grammer Nazi is probably related to Seinfeld's Soup Nazi.

Words with no exact English equivalents, and sniglets, and some slang comprise a type of minimal poetry where complex idea are distilled to a concentrated essence. No one uses metrosexual anymore, but it's a good example of sniglet as poetry.

Urban Dictionary is a mixed blessing. Sometimes true slang terms, but often simply cute phrases not in wide use. Sometimes simply episodic personal utterances overheard and submitted.

Tootblan- an acronym for "thrown out on the basepaths like an durian"

Disaster Start- allowing as many runs as innings pitched

umpshow- when an umpire becomes the center of attention by provoking an argument or making an egregious call to shift the attention from the players to the umpire himself [see: Country Joe West]

pitching a Maddux- named after Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux who was famous for throwing complete games of under a 100 pitches. As the complete game has become rarer and rarer (in its long, continuous decline since the turn of the 20th century) while pitch counts, long at bats/walks and bullpens have become important, it is becoming increasingly special not only to pitch a complete game but to do so under by tossing under a 100 pitches.

Greg Maddux threw 13 Madduxes as far as records for pitch counts go, and that's the known record.

Loogy is an acronym for "Lefty One Out Guy"- used to describe those left-handed relievers who teams started to carry to pitch to the one dangerous left handed batter in a game. A Loogy can go a full season, appear in half the games, and struggle to accrue 40 total innings in a season. Right handers only never got a name or acronym, I guess in part because of baseball's long history of colorful left handed pitchers and the stereotype that they are all a bit "off" in head...maybe because as a southpaw they need to navigate overwhelmingly right-handed lineups who pick up the ball much better out of the hand of a left-handed pitcher.

Funny thing is, the role of bullpen specialists like the loogy seems to be dying out. It's a waste of a roster spot, team finances and when 2/3rds of the teams feature bullpens full of guys throwing over 95 mph, you don't need crafty pitchers to induce outs. What began as mimicking Tony LaRussa's bullpen management of the late 80s Athletics is dying out as teams are now attempting to stock their bullpen with guys who can go multiple innings a few times a week instead of an inning every night.

All the sabermetric acronyms probably would count too...

  so you wanna play rough huh?

back in the day, when someone told you something they thought was cool, and you wanted to put them down, instead of saying "Far out!" you would say "Farm out!" in a dull monotone droning voice.....like that is so lame only a farm boy would think it's cool.

But speaking of knock knock jokes, here's a beauty. I got it from yo momma.... ;)

you: you like knock knock jokes?
other person: yeah!
you: I got a good one but you have to start it.
other person: OK, knock knock.
you: who's there?
other person: ?

BTW, the above is not the definition of "loogy"

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define. ... 0a%20loogy

the quirky left handed pitcher (bowler) who makes life difficult for right handers is still a thing in cricket.

called a "chinaman" and when they move the ball its in the opposite direction to expected its called a "googly"

I think most of the popular memes could be converted to neologisms if people stopped to think about them. I often hear people reference memes conversationally and it comes off as just a clumsy observation.

Good source of inspiration for writers. Skits and scenes.

I've never seen the word "neologisms" before, is that a new word or something? :?

It would be fun to write a sitcom (with the right band of co-writers, and blend of alcohol, caffeine, and sugar) about a place where all kinds of people meet and attempt to interact, but since they are all using their own lexicons and accents, the miscommunications are legion.

A mixture of Sienfeld and My Cousin Vinny with multi-generational, multi-zip code, and multi-national characters.
