The dangerous, disappearing Pomegranates
A steadily declining population could push Iran toward a regional confrontation
Image
The Pomegranates are in the kind of panic about their future that impelled France and Germany toward war respectively in 1914 and 1939. I do not agree with much of Harvard Prof. Graham Allison’s “Thucydides Trap” thesis, which views the 5th-century B.C.E. Spartan-Athenian war as a template for the response of a declining established power to a challenger, but there is an unsettling parallel between ancient Sparta and modern Iran. Sparta already had entered irreversible demographic decline when it warred with Athens, and Iran’s leaders are so possessed by fear of population shrinkage that they arrest academic demographers for publishing the wrong data.

The New Arab | Iran nationwide blackouts spark protests
In footage posted to social media, protesters can be heard chanting 'Death to Khamenei' and 'Death to the dictator' into the night.

the Iranian diaspora is an interesting thing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_diaspora

more moved to Australia than to the entire of the middle east or asia!

good people, like the middle class turks, they are pretty much 100% integrated.

right.

and the real linkage between countries isnt the bullshit government or media - its the diaspora.

ive spent much of my life working for Chinese, never mattered what the government or the media said, it was Chinese businessmen in Australia investing in projects I worked on and we worked together fine.

so, where is the Iranian diaspora, where are the strong linkages to the world forming ?

its not Asia, its not Russia :)

History of Iranian Americans in Los Angeles
Los Angeles (and Southern California in general) is home to a large Iranian-American community. Los Angeles is also notable for its very large Iranian Jewish communities in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Encino, and Calabasas. The Iranian population in Los Angeles is diverse with many ethnic subgroups like Iranians of Jewish descent and Iranian Armenians. With population estimates of 700,000, Southern California boasts the largest concentration of Iranians in the world, outside of Iran.[1][2] The Iranian diaspora in Los Angeles includes those who fled the 1979 Islamic revolution, the increased immigration after the 2009 Green Movement, people who immigrated to the United States by winning Diversity Visa Program and those who were born in the U.S.[3] Southern California is also distinct from Northern California with its larger presence of Armenian Iranians and Iranian Jews and Iranian Muslim. Tehrangeles is the other famous name among Iranian people in Iran and even in the Los Angeles because of the Iranian population in Los Angeles area.

All Iranians in China are "students" .. in China for training

China is now building up Iranians industrial base, for that they train Iranian specialist and cader.

Iranian business will now move to Russia, excellent opportunities

Russia now will overrun by China, Iranian, Indian entrepreneurs

Atheists follow Christmas and Easter as much as many christians, the feeling guilty about not going to the church is removed - the rest is all the same - a few days of drinking and feasting with friends and family and a break from work.

it is just winter and spring festival times - goes back far longer than any of the religions, every human owns those dates.

except us southern hemisphere folks - it becomes summer and autumn festivals and all the metaphors and imagery are a bit screwed up.

.

Only thing worth celebrating is when nature "renews itself" in 1st of spring

All the other festivities started with "man made" myths that (now) have morphed to business, they now "marketing tools" without any spirituality and dept .. especially in "liberal cultures"

When I was Student, I went to Russian Orthodox church in Geneva when they were celebrating, to watch and listen to very nice Russian songs with deep voice.
Although non believer, felt Goosebumps .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Church,_Geneva

Old Slavic Orthodox Chant

The Abrahamic festivities , Christian new year, Jewish , Muslim Ramadan, they lack now of any spirituality, have become only marketing tool for business. Not worth celebrating

Nature renews itself 1st Sprint .. how one celebrates Nature ?

Well, you guessed it :D
Nowruz marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. The moment at which the Sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year, and families traditionally gather together to observe the rituals.

Ive never seen anyone go all cultural supremcist over holiday dates before, thats pretty cool.

Ill go one better - 4 season people are wrong and the Nyoongar Aboriginals had the correct idea by making it 6 seasons.

summer -> early autumn -> late autumn -> winter -> early spring -> late spring

All had seperate names, for different events that happened, which is how we do it aswell, but we cludge the early/late onto spring and autumn to make the 4 season concept fit.
The Abrahamic festivities , Christian new year, Jewish , Muslim Ramadan, they lack now of any spirituality, have become only marketing tool for business. Not worth celebrating

a couple of days off work to catchup with friends and family is all the spirituality required, everything else is just oppurtunists.

I suppose that's the compulsive nature of a philia combined with a monomania.
Tedious to deal with if one is a forum mod.

Also, far removed from the spirit of any season.

"compulsive nature of a philia combined with a monomania."

Some might consider my above post

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=18&start=500#p160586

as disrespectful to occasion

I understand, but it not meant as such

But

I think, especially "these occasions" should be used to reflect on things

Looking back, did celebrating invented (bad copies from Persian Mithraism) "Abrahamic" myths bring peace, tranquility, happiness to humanity ?

For sure not, in contrary, it was used for human misery, still at it

So, why continue same ?

Is it not time to step back and reboot and see what is and went wrong ?

Doing this one would find that the only thing worth celebrating is the "Nature renewing itself" .. there is a deep meaning in that

Albert Camus, French philosopher :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Camus

He wrote, he spent his whole life to find what the essence of life is

He said he concluded that "essence of life" was "Renewal of life" by giving life to next generation.

Salmon hatch in canadian fresh water falls, enter salty pacific, swim to Russian Kamchatka , swim back to same Canadian fresh water falls they hatched, spawn, and die .. that is the essence of Salmon life

For Nature, there no difference between humans and Salmon .. same philosophie

In that sense, in this special occasion, one should step back and "reflect"

noddy, West, especially America and Australia maybe Canada, have become an "Andy Warhol" culture .. "Burger with Ketchup on canvas" and it's worth $ 300 million .. there no depth of any kind in that

Considering "free time with friends and family" as essence of celebrating Abrahamic (even fake) myths misunderstand the whole thing
