How Russia Won the Sanctions War With the West

commentary from a friend

Newsweek reports the complete failure of the West's sanctions policy towards Russia and conducts a small comparative analysis.

The agency notes that the supposed collapse of the Russian economy did not happen.

The country's GDP grew by 5.5% in the third quarter of 2023.

Final figures for the year have not yet been published, but Russia's GDP growth for the whole of 2023 should exceed 3 percent.

At the same time, those who imposed sanctions on Moscow are doing worse than Russia.

In 2023, the US economy grew by 2.4%, while the German economy contracted and the EU as a whole grew by less than 1%.

Instead of a proposed withdrawal from Ukraine, Russia has increased the size of its armed forces from 190,000 troops in February 2022 to more than 600,000 today.

The publication emphasizes that from February 2022 to February 2023, Western countries introduced sanctions against Russia that were unprecedented in scale since the Second World War.

However, this did not give the desired result and caused only a moderate recession in 2022, which the Russians quickly overcame.

According to the authors, this happened because Russia had too much gold, grain, oil and friends and they were able to effectively use this to circumvent sanctions.

Also, the West’s plan to turn the “ruble into ruins” by freezing the reserves of the Russian Central Bank in the amount of $300 billion, which at that time amounted to about half of the country’s foreign exchange reserves, was also unsuccessful.

The Central Bank immediately pegged the ruble to gold and backed it up with its huge reserves of this precious metal.

Production capacity was also increased, giving Moscow enough time to reorient its trade.

The final nail in the coffin of the failure of Western sanctions was the reorientation of Russian trade towards China and India, which is now bringing Moscow even more profit than from previous trade with Europe.

too many strawmen.

Russia has moved to a war time economy, which means massive GDP boost and industrial boost, noone disputes that.

some suspect its not going to be sustainable, I have no idea at this stage.

the only thing that is real is Russia is now in a full war time economy and Europe is starting to realise what that means, shame its 5 years too late.

True

Big mistake confronting Russia militarily .. West underestimated Russia and Iran (and now Gaza disaster) by not having profound understanding of those "cultures and civilizations" .. Russians are an "extremely" nationalist nation .. Iranian even more.

Russian soldiers locked arms and marched towards Wehrmacht machine guns until Germans ran out of bullet .. and Iranian marched barefoot on Iraqi minefield

For Russia this was the best thing could happen .. Russian oligarchs waisted money on Yachts, private jets, Riviera villa and London flat ,, now money stays in Russia .. just selling oil and buying Western consumer goods and cars etc was no good for Russian industry, but now Russia will develop own industry , own jet liners ec etc, and become more entrepreneur society.

It was a jackpot for mad mullahs .. before Ukraine, Russia and China voted with West, now they vote with mad mullahs .. Now mad mullahs joined the big boys table.

Worst is for Israel .. Natanyahu pretty much destroyed Israel , now even Europe and US confronting Israel.

Agree

It was a mistake to include "Eastern Europe" in NATO

Eastern Europe should be "buffer Zone" between Russia and Western Europe

Now NATO bordering Russian, sure bet a BANG coming, only question is WHEN

AND

What If Nuclear Deterrence Is Fake ?
“The nuclear weapon is a deterrent to nuclear war,
but not to war.

Iran and Pakistan’s casual violations of one another's territorial sovereignty this week—lobbing missiles willy-nilly at “militants” who each alleges are hiding within the other country’s borders—shows that a nuclear deterrent (namely, Pakistan’s) doesn’t seem to make much of a difference in the aggressive relations between near-peer powers. (Something to consider seriously vis-a-vis China.) Dare we say, Powell, vindicated again?

nonsense.

NATO was a million miles from attacking Russia, literally nobody wants that and anyone that believes it is soft in the head, or has such a hatred they just enjoy the lies.

all NATO has done for Ukraine is give them spare weapons from the cold war to help defend themselves, and now they are running out, and Europe has no more weapons left - they could never have attacked russia becuase they dont even have basic supplies or industry to do so, they dont have war time economies.

https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20231205000300315

south korea supplied more shells than the entire of europe, thats HOW STUPID THE RUSSIAN LIES ARE.. it doesnt even pass the basic test of logic.

they are only now talking of a 5 to 10 year plan to build the weapons be ready to attack russia.

you lie to yourself so much, you cant see the contradictions in the lies anymoire.

who knows, maybe Europe can find itself again, maybe it will stop suiciding, maybe it can restore is glorious heritage of commiting atrocities all over the world.

Russia has it coming, maybe the mad mullahs wil too.

https://asiatimes.com/2024/01/why-us-st ... e-houthis/

The hope is these strikes will pressure the Iran-aligned Houthis to back down.

It won’t, however.

Short of a complete halt to Israel’s war in Gaza and a 180-degree shift in Western support for Israel’s approach, there is little that will dissuade the Houthis to change course in the foreseeable future.
.
There are three main reasons for this, none of which are principally about Iran’s regional strategy.

The first, and most obvious, reason is the Houthi movement, whose political wing is known as Ansar Allah, has already withstood years of airstrikes in its war with a Saudi-led and Western-backed coalition from 2015–2022.

US could sink into another quick sand in Middle East, what Natanyahu counting on .. bugging down West for yrs , and at the end exiting Afghanistan style

You have lost the plot. Globalists and Fed have split into competing factions. Ukraine will launder EU money; Israel will launder Fed money.

Vladimir Putin continues to explore if the United States is prepared to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, Bloomberg reported on Jan. 25.

According to two individuals close to the Kremlin, Putin has "tested the waters" with the United States through indirect channels to signal that he is open for talks, including about future security arrangements for Ukraine.

Biden should sign on the dotted line, before West losing it's shirt.

Loses it shirt to whom?

What this means is that Russia and Putin are starting to feel the pain of their folly in invading Ukraine.

Now is the time for the West to ramp up supplies to Ukraine.

Financial Times
Russian victories shake global leaders' faith in Ukraine war

Twelve months ago, delegates at the Munich Security Conference radiated optimism about the prospects for Ukraine, as the west vowed to back Kyiv in its war with Russia for “as long as it takes”. This year, with the conflict tilting in Moscow’s favour and faith in western support ebbing away, that optimism has flipped into unremitting gloom.

The three-day gathering in Munich that concluded on Sunday was marked by a recognition that Ukraine badly needed more weapons and ammunition, and that the rhetoric of solidarity must now be translated urgently into action.

Told you

Regime change is coming
to Kiev

Washington has fondly hoped that it could bring about regime change in Russia. Now it seems even more likely that there will be regime change, but not in Russia – in Kiev.

The catalyst for regime change in Kiev is the bloody and now ended battle over Avdiivka.
