Re: Sister Wives vs Gays; our brave new future
Gays and polygamists are complimentary. Traditional polygamy results in an excess of single men, some of whom will turn to each other for comfort. The remaining hardcore heteros can be expended fighting some made up war.

Re: Maybe We Uz Should Try Going Swiss Cheese.......
And the citzens of Kennesaw Georgia AFAIK are not required to do law enforcement, police the streets*, or do Civil War**........ Just be armed as a "vaccination" against crime and oppression....... Some countries may need that and some countries may not. I'm beginning to think that Endove...

Re: Armed resistance
Some contemplation of the historical precedents to the 2nd Amendment might be helpful. While an armed populace may or may not have a chance against their government, the very fact that the US government has not yet been given a 100% monopoly on violence is a principle worth considering, and somethin...

It's de rigueur to selectively teach, since we are all wired to selectively believe.

Re: At least 27 die in school shooting in Connecticut
Those who get caught up in arguments regarding the type and capacity of modern weapons should be mindful that the muzzle loader was the assault weapon of its day, anyone who doubts this need only reflect that average citizens took such weapons in hand and with them defeated the most powerful militar...

Re: Fiscal cliff debate
Yeah, what if? Are you envisioning a system that enforces a 100% success rate? I am pointing out the flaw in the thinking that people should sink or swim in an economy that is dominated by a small number of owners who have a disproportionate amount of leverage over goods and services. The thinking ...

Re: Fiscal cliff debate
Apparently you didn't understand what I said. I was talking about when the units of production are no longer needed by the economy and the safety net has been dismantled. If a human being is its economic value, what is it when it has no economic value? The answer is simple, that human must create t...

Re: Fiscal cliff debate
I'm a big fan of voluntary cooperation, and nowhere would I ever argue against it. I am arguing against assertions that eking out a living as a "unit of production" is somehow inferior to subsistence farming or being a hunter gatherer. In China, rural people vote with their feet, millions ...

Re: Fiscal cliff debate
The man-made systems that Enki rails on about can be seen to be mimetic functions of Nature. Organisms exist evolutionarily configured to provide for their own continued existence and reproduction. When they fail to do so, well, you know the rest. It's an odd conceit that we humans (Westerners, spec...

Re: CIA director had affair - resigned
I'm only going to write one last paragraph on this, as a final attempt to learn those of you in the cheap seats. First off, by any measurement ( and certainly by those of the Evangelics that did not support Underwear Man), Mormonism is a cult. Not something many Baptists want to support. But on a p...

Re: Voter ID laws
I haven't checked this thread in weeks, because Skin Job won the argument at least 80 posts ago. What have I missed? Thanks, but I guess nobody got the memo. This is what set me off again: Now that there is no election looming it would be a fine time to create a voter ID system and provide all elig...

An ID requirement can only suppress fraud. Six months is ample time to obtain ID.

Re: Assesing the American election, some preliminary observa
I might have voted for Condi if I thought she could have overcome negatives due to her association with the Bush Administration. It would have been interesting to see the kind of foreign policy positions she would have crafted to run on, unfortunately I don't think they would have been substantially...

Re: Voter ID laws
Nice misdirection.
Were there really any non-activists out there trying to say that six months is not enough time to get an ID card?

For the record, the PA law was enacted over six months before the election. That's over a quarter million "last minutes."

Re: Voter ID laws
Do you think there will be a foot-dragging contingent intent on forestalling implementation? Was your only objection to the timing of these laws? If so, why didn't you mention that before? Obviously the timing is the crux of the issue. Implement these measures as the last minute to suppress the vot...

Re: Voter ID laws
True, if this system of trust is still warranted. I'm afraid the environment has become toxic enough to cast serious doubts on the assumption that corruption is not a significant problem. Reports of election judge's calls of alarm being roundly and perhaps systematically ignored look particularly tr...

Re: Romney vs. Obama
It's likely we'll know early, that is if Mitt wins PA it's over, likewise if Bams wins VA or FL. If not Captain Obvious OH, but there is a chance it's wrapped up real early. I saw an unlikely but amusing scenario where Romney loses OH and PA but won IA, NV, and CO, resulting in a 269-269 electoral ...

Anyone know about the Nook HD+? High res and light weight are the main attractions, but we've not been able to play with one yet. Wondering if the Nook version of Android prevents some apps from being used.
