Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul

They didn't decide to deregulate. They decided to build the subprime mortgage market. That is not deregulation. That is activist regulation. If a regulator does it, it is regulation. The UK can do whatever they want I don't particularly care. P, you will note the only credit market to fail was the ...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul

I'm sorry P, you simply don't have the foggiest idea what you are talking about. The regulators approved and encouraged everything that happened, therefore deregulation has less than nothing to do with it. Had there been more regulators, or more powerful regulators the problem would have been worse...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul

The Democrats caused the financial crisis, I don't agree. A number of them, and many others, many many others included millions of ordinary citizens were given the opportunity and seduced to do very stupid and detrimental things once the financial market was deregulated and going out of control. It...

Re: Religion

It isn't that simple, Azari. In Exodus God proclaims different types of laws. The ten commandments are how we are to honor God and are completely non-negotiable. But a bit later in Exodus, God gives a rather disorganized bunch of laws designed to aid the peaceful cohesiveness of the community. Thes...

Re: Divine Intervention and Onmipotence

A sacrifice in the ordinary sense also helps as a reminder that "we are not there yet". We not do everything right already. So it helps focus on ones own responsibility, decision to do better. As for the sacrifice of Christ, the story also often is read as simply the hero not giving up nor...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul

Mr. P. Your clearly don't understand "socialism". You confuse it with social capitalism. Socialism is practically extinct because it didn't work. Social capitalism is what most people in the West support. It does not equal big government, on the contrary. It equals free market, small gove...

Re: Just a thought

Prayer is supplication and entreaty, and I think it's unfortunate that English doesn't capture prayer particularly well despite the beauty and depth of the language as crafted by Wycliffe; Cranmer; Shakespeare; Milton; Chaucer; Donne and others. Yes, I'm sure for many people praying is much more th...

Re: Just a thought

Isn't this about free will? I don't think it really exists. One cannot seem to actively control their thoughts and decisions, they just spring forth and flow naturally. What seem to be decisions are merely thoughts that appear in your head. It's arguably the greatest paradox of existence. A growing...

Re: The Great MF Global Robbery: By the Regulators??!!

So, according to what I've read on this thread, it sounds like JP Morgan just stole money from MF Global's customers, with a bit of assistance from MF Global and regulators. Also trying to get this. "Held in street name" means in simple english: "If necessary we will rob you (custome...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul

Having grown up surrounded by Europeans, and living in Europe, I understand what you are saying but I am not sure if it is applicable or desirable. My experience is that state capitalism is rampant everywhere but Europeans really don't understand how Americans (at least east of the Mississippi) liv...

1 Corinthians 14:14 English Standard Version (ESV) 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. Can you explain this verse, Ho. If it means that the best prayer is the most silent.. listening one.. it makes sense to me. Paul is talking about glossolalia in this passage. ...

Re: On Progressives: Obama vs Paul

Maybe Europeans are as swift as their American counterparts in rejecting the others terminology. We know by now what is meant by social democracy as opposed to socialism but with our traditions, it is not simpatico. Social democracy is not exactly the same as "social capitalism"; I just m...

Re: Substantial conversations between Jews and Christians

It is a direction. Hell is not necessarily defined by pain, chaos and suffering. It can be a very pleasant place, in a lotus-eater way and it could well remain so until we are not anymore. Hell is defined by extinction and the utter irrelevance of the self. Moving towards the Godhead is the antithe...
