Livin' in a socialista's paradise.
Investigative journalists have uncovered trafficking, bribery, and money-laundering networks that reach across the Americas.
Been spending most their livesWhile human rights and general economic conditions deteriorate daily, government officials and their allies embezzle oil money and collude with drug and weapons traffickers. Illicit financial dealings that could involve sums far exceeding the $3.3 billion implicated in Brazil’s Odebrecht scandal have bolstered continued abuses of power by the Maduro regime and aggravated the humanitarian crisis. According to Transparency International’s 2016 Corruption Perceptions Index, Venezuela ranks among the worst on the planet, coming in 166 out of 176 countries assessed.

Venezuela in 'selective' bond default
Venezuela’s cash-strapped government insisted it had successfully begun efforts to refinance some $60 billion in bonds, though creditors disagreed following fruitless talks and a ratings firm declared the nation in selective default.
Venezuelan bonds slid on Tuesday after S&P Global Ratings announced that Venezuela was in selective default for failing to make $200 million in overdue coupon payments on its 2019 and 2024 global issues within a 30-day grace period.

Re: Venezuela
The reality of US involvement in Venezuela won't be known for at least a decade, but I see two things.
One is the passive-aggressive way Trump handles neo-con demands aeb the attacks on Syria, the Jerusalem embassy and the recent retraction of Trump's announced Syrian withdrawal. I suspect Trump has ulterior motives in Venezuela also.
I also see John Bolton being distracted from his handlers in the ME and given a task that he can't handle.
Whatever is going on, it is not just about the oil. VZ heavy is the kind of oil used for tar and asphalt, not the lighter fractions. It's more expensive to pump and worth less than light or intermediate grades. The picture of Trump giving Bolton a Venezuelan tar baby kind of fits.

Re: Venezuela
So far my Trump/Bolton observation fits as the absurd Bolton/Pompeo coup attempt has failed miserably. Trump should just quit toying with the belligerent bast@rd and shave his moustache. That will render Bolton totally powerless. There is a biblical precedent.Nonc Hilaire wrote:The reality of US involvement in Venezuela won't be known for at least a decade, but I see two things.

Id be expecting alot more of this now the cats out of the bag that NATO is too scared of escalation to do anything.Venezuelans voted by a wide margin on Sunday to approve the takeover of an oil-rich region in neighbouring Guyana – the latest escalation in a long-running territorial dispute between the two countries, fueled by the recent discovery of vast offshore energy resources.
The area in question, the densely forested Essequibo region, amounts to about two-thirds of Guyana's national territory and is roughly the size of Florida.
The largely symbolic referendum asked voters if they agreed with creating a Venezuelan state in the Essequibo region, providing its population with Venezuelan citizenship and "incorporating that state into the map of Venezuelan territory".

Even if Brazil really wanted to stop them (and I don't think the current government does), the Brazilians don't have the strength to take on the Venezuelans.

Venezuela Must Invade Brazil to Reach Guyana!
I expect if Venezuela trys to act on there "annexation" they will do it by guerilla warfare then a quick over throw of the current government of Guyana. A country with a regular army of 4,600 and a reserve of 3,000

Re: Venezuela
Arms sells is not same same Arm sell
West, America, sells arms to cronies, to safeguard American ($$$) interest. To Arabs etc
US, West, French sold only those Arms to Lebanon, that the Lebanese Christians needed to keep the Lebanese Shia in check, and not any arms that Lebanon could defend itself against Israel .. Now Iran gave those arms Lebanon needs to defend Lebanon against Zionists.
Iran sells Arms to those who want to "escape the Western Shackles" .. Venezuela and others (classified )
So, why complain, noddy ?
