Thank You Very Much for your post, Azari.
Shiite GPS ?What's missin is an Iranian GPS for Muslims
I suspect that the Sunni's will want their own too........
To Find their Way to Where the Sun Doesn't Shine oops I mean when the Sun doesn't shine........
Actually what's missing is GPS for the Moon, Mars and beyond..........
And finding your way "Where the Sun Doesn't Shine" could be "interesting" in a big underground colony even if the Sun Always Shines on the Peaks of Eternal Light where the Solar Collectors are..........
For the love of G_d, consider you & I may be mistaken.

its got nothing to do with cost , its got to do with control... gps is a free public sertvice because its just sattelites beeping timestamps and the unit is purely a listener that just triangulates the various offsets.Doc wrote:Its cheaper than free?Heracleum Persicum wrote:.

the americans can and do play games with public gps however, espeically during big millitary actions so its not something a "power", eg euro, russia or china would leave themselves at the mercy of.

Do you suppose that the Russians or Chinese would not do things to their GPS during military action?
BTW as far as I know the US military has never done anything different during military actions thus far. The US GPS system is "dumbed down" a bit for civilian use however. IE not quite as accurate.

The civilian sector GPS signals aren't spoofed, but they are made so that OTF processing of carrier waves and pseudorandom codes can only be done within certain parameters. Try to use civilian GPS at ballistic missile speeds if you want to see what I mean.
The US DoD group of GPS signals is spoofed and encrypted regularly. I know this because I'm a wizard.

That encryption not worth much .. seems Iranian highjacked the CIA drone by faking the encrypted GPS signal

this is not about pissing contests or bashing america it is basic common sense and national security and all i really wanted to point out is that "cost" is an absurdity of reasoning.Doc wrote:noddy wrote:its got nothing to do with cost , its got to do with control... gps is a free public sertvice because its just sattelites beeping timestamps and the unit is purely a listener that just triangulates the various offsets.Doc wrote:Its cheaper than free?Heracleum Persicum wrote:.

why on earth would a country which may or may not go to war with the us or its allies at some stage be at the mercy of a us controlled positioning system when they have the capability of sending up satellites to do their own.

1. 2 CM of water will block a GPS signal. So will a sheet of aluminum foil. It's a fact of the radio frequencies used.
Radio jamming also worked, until they started randomizing the mil sector freqs.
2. Drones (and missiles and submarines) rely on INS, which makes Iran's story more than a little suspect.
3. If Iran could crack GPS encryption, they could take down the Control Sector. Nothing like this has happened since the last Chinese failure a couple years ago.
4. It's just a lot easier to piece together shootdowns from Afghanistan and lie about it than it is to pull the technological coup Iran claims.
5. For some reason, a year after their technological triumph, Iran hasn't "Captured" any other drones. Go figure.

A pilot since 1965, ING has not the (needed) accuracy of (military) GPS, by far not .. am sure American drones guided by GPS and not INS (they might have a INS backup), that for many reason
and,
Iranians never said they interfered in GPS signal, but western experts, sources, did .. how that drone brought done is a secret that only Iranians know (Americans probably not sure of) .. no new drone of that sort brought done probably a proof CIA stopped the flights before positively clearing up how Iranians did it
and
Farcus
Have not seen a single Iranian military or intelligence lie, not a single .. if you know of any, pls post
But can post many American and western intelligence lies to fool not Iranian Joe (Iranian Joe skeptical of everything, considering a lie unless proven otherwise) but fooling American Joe .. "Gulf of Tonkin" a good sample of foolin Joe into a calamity
.

Iranian Government famous for brinksmanship too, ALI. And propaganda. Like US maybe, but still...
Israel stole important GPS secrets, ca. 1980. Cracked PRC which only replicates itself in 19 years, ca. 1982.
Israel probably could take down the GPS Control Sector if they wanted, same as decade of Iran callitrons. This is why US give Israel $$ - same reason police escort motorcycle gang instead of arresting them. Big job.
