First the UK parliament yesterday made it illegal to protest against British government actions WRT to Ukraine. Before this the UK government was criticizing Russia for suppressing anti-war protests in Russia, as well as press crack down..

Second Ukraine is accussing Putin of targeting civilians Russia's response is they are not but the Ukrainian government is using civilians as human shields and storing weapons in civilian homes

For Russia, the end of expansion means to start eating your own again. The USSR collapsing into a kleptocracy headed by the new Czar Putin now needs to expand again... and eat neighbors. Even if it is the meat and blood of its own relatives.

It is one thing if people are killed and enslaved in wars by real or perceived "foreigners". A civil war is different though. Maybe if it happened once upon a time long ago..it can be forgiven and forgotten. But if civil war alias cannibalism becomes a systemic feature that repeats itself almost like a law of nature... as a Russian you have all the reason to become paranoid.
